Re: CH. 17: Poison Curse
Jocelyn and Gallath (Poison Curse, Captain's Cabin/Sardonx 16th, 8:30 AM)
Jocelyn pokes around for trapdoors, but as she said, she has no training in such things and isn't really sure what to look for. She finds nothing suspicious.
Meanwhile, Gallath manages to unlock the drawer. Inside is a single book, a leather bound journal. It appears to be the captain's personal log.
=============
Gallath attempts to pick the lock in the desk [TN 55%] (1d100): 18, pass.
Ouragana, Baeros and Drav (Poison Curse, Upper deck/Sardonx 16th, 8:30 AM)
Ouragana stays behind, which really makes her stand out. She is literally the only one of the boarding party who does so. Nobody orders her otherwise, but she catches the captain staring at her with confusion as to why she is holding back.
Meanwhile, Drav, Brock and Baeros fight with the sailors from the merchant ship. Two of the marines move toward Baeros. The first swings his cutlass at the ranger, but only manages to cut his cheek a bit. Baeros promptly knocks him out in retaliation, using the flat of his sword. The second marine then approaches, and she manages to cut him in the arm.

Ouragana (N/A)
Baeros (1d10+5): 8+5 = 13
Marine 01 (1d10+5): 1+5 = 6
Marine 02 (1d10+5): 9+5 = 14
Round 1!
Ouragana does nothing.
Marine 01 swings his cutlass at Baeros in his studded leather armor (-2 hit) [TN 13] (1d20): 18, hit for (1d6): 1 damage.
Baeros swings his long sword at Marine 01 with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) and strength (+1 hit/dmg) using the flat of his blade (-4 hit) and holding back (-3 dmg) [TN 7] (1d20-2): 14-2 = 12, hit for (1d8): 7 damage. Marine 01 is knocked out.
Marine 02 swings her cutlass at Baeros in his studded leather armor (-2 hit) [TN 13] (1d20): 15, hit for (1d6): 4 damage.
(OOC: Actions for Round 2?)
Val and Naras (Undine Community/Sardonx 16th, 9:30 AM)
"It was fifteen years ago," Silverfrond answers. "We have long since given up hope of them still being alive at this point. All that we know of the kidnappers is that they were surfacers. As for finding this place again, I do not know any surfacer landmarks, so I am not sure what to tell you," she admits. "I also do not know how many water breathing spells you would need to reach the surface. How many did you need to get here originally?"
(OOC: Not sure why Naras is acting so surprised at this story? Cye told her this very same story to explain Serenna's sour attitude earlier. Then Naras called her a 'miserable beast', she ran off, Cye and Shin followed...that's how you got separated, remember?)

Re: CH. 17: Poison Curse
Gallath checks the book for traps. He will then open it, (provided there are none, obviously.) "Jocelyn, I got it. Keep a lookout." He will crouch behind the desk, so anyone walking into the room will not notice the book turning by itself.

Re: CH. 17: Poison Curse
Jocelyn looks towards the invisible Gallath, and notices the journal. "That...looks like a journal. Hopefully, that will have the answers we need."
Re: CH. 17: Poison Curse
Seeing the Captain's gaze on her, Ouragana moves forward. Since she is no good at fighting at all, she starts searching fallen sailors for valuables.

Gallath reads, checking the most recent entries, then scanning for the name he's looking for.

Re: CH. 17: Poison Curse
Jocelyn and Gallath (Poison Curse, Captain's Cabin/Sardonx 16th, 8:30 AM)
Not finding any traps on the book, Gallath opens it up. He skips ahead to the most recent entries. The most recent entry is yesterday, although it doesn't go as far as Jocelyn's capture. It ends shortly before that. As Ethan was killed three years ago, there is no mention of his name anywhere in this section of the journal.
Ouragana, Baeros and Drav (Poison Curse, Upper deck/Sardonx 16th, 8:30 AM)
Ouragana starts searching the fallen sailors, but they are only carrying their weapons and armor. Nobody has any reason to wade into battle carrying coins or valuables, those would be stored down in the hold.
Baeros draws his second sword and attacks the second marine with both of them. He strikes her once, then twice, and accidentally kills her in the process. He hadn't meant to hit her that hard, but hitting her twice was too much. She falls over dead at his feet.
===========
Initiative
Ouragana (N/A)
Baeros (1d10+5): 2+5 = 7
Marine 02 (1d10+5): 7+5 = 12
Round 2!
Ouragana searches fallen sailors, but all they carry are their weapons and armor.
Baeros swings his primary long sword at Marine 02 with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) and strength (+1 hit/dmg) using the flat of his blade (-4 hit) and holding back (-3 dmg) [TN 7] (1d20-2): 19-2 = 17, hit for (1d8): 7 damage. He then swings his secondary long sword at Marine 02 with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) and strength (+1 hit/dmg) using the flat of his blade (-4 hit) and holding back (-3 dmg) [TN 7] (1d20-2): 10-2 = 8, hit for (1d8): 7 damage. Marine 02 dies.
(OOC: I'm aware Baeros has two swords. But you said you wanted to only knock out your opponents, not kill them. If you use both swords, you'll do double the damage and have a much higher chance of accidentally killing them. As evidenced by the round above.
Actions for Round 3?)
Val and Naras (Undine Community/Sardonx 16th, 9:30 AM)
"I can try and give you directions here, but you would need to submerge at around the same spot as you did before," Silverfrond explains.
(OOC: You mean the forum's search engine? You can read it about in the FAQ here.)

"That would be good, Silverfrond, thank you," replies Naras. "Unless there's anything we can help you with, I think we'll be leaving in the morning."
She brings Val up to speed as they switch languages.

{OOC: OK, thanks. Spotted the advanced search bar, top and bottom. Never noticed it before TBH. Looks complicated. Didn't see 'simple' search though.}

Re: CH. 17: Poison Curse
Ouragana lookls up. Do the defending sailors cover all the doors and passages, or is there a place where she might sneak to (or at least bee seen to attempt getting to?
There's more to me than meets the eye...
Re: CH. 17: Poison Curse
Baeros keeps advancing towards the captain. Still trying to knock the sailors down by using each sword against a different opponent.
==========================================
(OOC: I didn't mean killing the opponents and I assume Baeros would know two blows might be too dangerous. I didn't know that as a player and basically I meant using each sword against a different opponent of the two who attacked him. I'd appreciate if you revive the woman

Re: CH. 17: Poison Curse
Jocelyn walks over to the floating journal. "Let me see," she says as she takes the journal. "Okay, so three years ago, so it would be towards the beginning of this journal most likely," she says mostly to herself as she flips towards the beginning and starts reading.
Re: CH. 17: Poison Curse
Jocelyn and Gallath (Poison Curse, Captain's Cabin/Sardonx 16th, 8:30 AM)
Jocelyn flips through the journal, trying to find the right entry. She pauses to read while Gallath stands by.
Ouragana, Baeros and Drav (Poison Curse, Upper deck/Sardonx 16th, 8:30 AM)
Ouragana scans the area for a part of the ship that isn't well defended. To her surprise, she spots an unguarded door on the aftcastle. She might be able to sneak toward it, if she's careful enough.
Baeros continues forward. Drav, Naishe and Brock are too busy with their own opponents to lend either him or Ouragana any aid. Four more marines come at Baeros. Two men ready crossbows while two women come at him with cutlasses. The first woman misses, but the second one manages to cut lightly into his chest. Normally it wouldn't be much of an issue, but he was still wounded from those bullets the night before, and Jocelyn wasn't around to heal him this time. He tries to split his focus between the two. He swings one blade at the first woman but she easily parries. He strikes at the second with his second blade and hits her so hard that at first, he thinks he killed her, too. But she groans softly in pain, indicating she is still alive.
The two men, who are outside the range of Baeros' blades, fire their crossbows at the ranger. Only one hits, a glancing blow against his left shoulder, drawing blood. They quickly start to reload before he can deal with the second woman and reach them.

Re: CH. 17: Poison Curse
Jocelyn purses her lips together in a deep frown as she reads over the journal entries. Whatever she was reading didn't really seem to make her happy. "He did it," she finally says. "He poisoned him in a drunken rage. He didn't even remember doing it until it was too late."
