Re: CH. 13: Resident Evil
Baeros also approaches the door. He stands near Jocelyn, his arm brushing her shoulder. He also waits to see how the other fares with their search and says quietly to no one in particular "I'm worried about Hopper. He is only a pup." If no one will find a trap he will tell everyone to stand far away and try to open the door.

Re: CH. 13: Resident Evil
Granite marks the traps with some of the exotic spices he bought last year. From everyone else's perspective, the spice just magically appears on the floor from nowhere. The gnome then moves around the traps to reach the nearest door. Jocelyn, Brock and Thaddeus join him.
Granite spends five minutes searching the door for traps. He learns a few things. First, the door is locked. Second, the keyhole is shaped like a spade. Third, the door is trapped. It appears to be some kind of magical trap that will freeze anyone who tries to enter. If the door is unlocked with the proper key, it should disarm the trap automatically. Or someone could try and disarm it on their own. However, they risk accidentally setting it off.
Granite decides to take the risk and starts work on disarming the trap. After six long minutes, however, he finds he is stumped. He has no idea how to disarm it without the key or setting it off.
========
Granite searches for traps on the spade door [40] (1d100): 14, pass. He finds a frost trap.
Granite attempts to remove the frost trap on the spade door [40] (1d100): 72, fail.
(OOC: Well to be fair, xelphyn, you bought those spices in October of 2012.)

"Freeze?? That doesn't sounds promising... I guess we should search for the key... unless someone sacrifice his mobility. I can carry him... or her... afterwards." Baeros smiles. "You don't think the Wyvern left the key under a rug right? But maybe we can find it behind the other door, or in the armors or if solving the weird plate we first saw on this floor."

"I think it's more like the kind of freeze with, you know, ice... that can kill you. Well, at least we know it isn't more fire." Dahn says.
"Unless someone else thinks they'll have better luck with this thing, I think our best option would be to find the key to this..."
Dahn let's out a sigh, "I really want to tip one of those things over."

"Well, if you can't disable the trap, then there are other doors here we can try," Jocelyn points out. "Maybe we will find the key in the other rooms."
Re: CH. 13: Resident Evil
Ouragana had at long last ambled over to the group, careful to avoid the marked tiles. "Too bad the keyhole is shaped like a diamond, not like a pearl" she says. "I could have provided that."
She looks at the suits of armor. "I wonder if a spare key was hidden here somewhere in plain sight... Give me my silver piece back, please, Brearos" she says.
Do any of the statues have something like a key ring, or is there something special about their gloves, sword hilts etc? Ouragana will just look and shine everywhere (including inside the armor where possible), not touch anything.

Gallath spends three minutes working on the trap to try and disarm it. He manages to succeed, disarming the trap. However, the door remains locked.

Gallath attempts to remove the frost trap on the spade door [50] (1d100): 30, pass. The trap is disarmed.
(OOC: Is Ouragana examining the suits of armor standing next to the door? Or the dismantled one they defeated?)

Gallath nods to the others. "I disarmed it" he says casually, and then starts trying to pick the lock.

Danny begins poking one of the statues flanking the door.
"You think it would be possible to dismantle these things without causing them to activate?"

Re: CH. 13: Resident Evil
Gallath examines the lock. From what he can tell, despite its unusual shape, there's nothing out of the ordinary about it. It's just a standard lock. However, he has no lockpicks, so he is forced to use his dagger instead--a rather crude instrument for such delicate work. He spends a good seven minutes on it before giving up. There's just no way he can pick this lock without decent tools.
Gallath steps aside to let Drav try. Drav is much more skilled at lockpicking and has a nice set of thieves' tools. He sets to work and after only four minutes, he manages to get the door unlocked.
Opening the door reveals an ancient study. The walls are lined with bookshelves full of books...that have all more or less disintegrated with time over the past three centuries. Strangely, there is no dust and what hasn't fallen to pieces over time has been kept in good condition.
On the north wall, in the center, is a stone fireplace. No wood or even ash is to be seen within it. It has likely been cold for a very long time. On the west wall is a mahogany desk with a drawer. On top of that desk sits a small golden globe; almost identical to the one that housed the map to this island, but smaller and less intricate looking. On the east wall sits a chest, also made of mahogany.
There are two windows on the north wall, on either side of the fireplace, but both are boarded up tightly enough to not let more than a few small rays of sunlight within.
While everyone else is distracted with the interior of the library, Granite touches one of the nearby statues. It suddenly comes to life, as does its counterpart on the other side of the door. Despite being invisible, the armor he touched seems to be able to look right at him. One armor (#3) carries a spear and a small shield, while the other (#4) carries a battle axe and a large shield. "Vet...IT...us MAN...ifes...TUS," one says in an reverberating voice.
========
Gallath attempts to pick the spade lock with a dagger (-25%) [25] (1d100): 86, fail.
Drav attempts to pick the spade lock with lockpicks [70] (1d100): 25, pass. He unlocks the door.
(OOC: Animated Armors 03 and 04 are now activated. State actions and roll initiative.)

Re: CH. 13: Resident Evil
(Ooc;ah... The hazards of role-playing your character's comically low wisdom, sorry guys.)
Dahn lets out a squeal and slips past the others into the study, making a quick scan of the room for traps and other hazards.
"Thaddeus, you may want to join me," Dahn announces. "Unless, of course, it follows me; I'm pretty sure it can see me... Stupid invisibility seeing automatons."
*If the animated armor doesn't follow him, or is unable to, Dahn waits for Thaddeus to join him and says:" Okay, I think we should study this study."
*If it does follow him, Dahn begins tumbling through the room in an attempt to evade it.

Re: CH. 13: Resident Evil
Jocelyn jumps upon hearing the armors, and she looks towards in in disbelief. "What happened?" she asks in surprise as she takes hold of her warhammer. She was going to have to join in the fray of beating these things down.
