CH 1: You All Meet in a Tavern

Dahn replies,"Kek do not claim all animals, only the ones they have hunted and 'bred'. Breeding, and keeping, that's what i'm talking about, It will take some time, but, if you can set up some fences, and refrain from immediately killing them, you can keep the cows long enough for them to have numerous children, then eat them, raise the children, let them have children, and then the cycle continues. This way, you have food, and you won't be forced to kill kek who have come to reclaim what was theirs."

[JadedDM]

"How tell what animals owned by kek and what animals not owned by kek?" she asks, puzzled. Listening to the gnome's proposal, she scratches at her head. "Aarakocra cage animals for food? But...what feed animals?"

[Breila]

"It is simple to say which animals belong to kek" Ouragana tells the chieftainess. "When there is grass with a limit around it, and the animals cannot go where they want, they belong to someone. And even animals who can go where they want sometimes belong to kek. The big ones with horns" she makes a gesture to imitate cow's horns, "they always belong to someone. The small ones with a lot of fur, too."

"But the small ones with horns like this, with branches" she mimics antlers, "they are free for hunt."

[Jenara]

"Farmers like trade." Arei adds for the others, "You give things they want, and they give you things you want." She eats slowly still, keeping her eye on the creatures. "You trade with each other?"

[JadedDM]

The chieftainess cocks her head at Ouragana, clearly having difficulty following all of that. Jocelyn helpfully steps in and clarifies. "Animals that are behind fences belong to people. If you see a wooden fence, don't cross it."

"If no take animals in fences, kek leave aarakocra alone?" she asks. Looking to Areilon, she shakes her head. "Have no trade. Nothing to trade."

[Nuke]

Val is surprised to see a female leader in this group. She begins to take a more acute interest in the conversation, trying to follow more than one at a time, choosing to say nothing at this time.

The gnome looks to the rest of the group, saying "I wonder if one of the farmers would teach them how to raise cattle, if we explained the situation."

[JadedDM]

"I'm not sure how they could," Jocelyn says. "There's nothing for cattle to eat up here in the mountains. And the ground is too rocky for them to grow crops to feed them with."

[Breila]

"They might be able to raise goats, though" Ouragana says. "They don't even need to fence them in, they would live like game."

She turns to the chieftainess again. "We cannot make promises for all kek. You know some like to shoot. But we will talk to the kek leaders. I think we can come back with the promise that the kek will leave the aarakocra alone when they leave the animals in fences alone."

[Jenara]

"Kek want to know what happened to those who came?" She asks quietly, "They would be short, carrying a small badge. If we can tell them, they might leave you alone."

[JadedDM]

"Two kek come seven suns ago. Try and kill aarakocra. Aarakocra kill. Have no choice. Call on air spirit, destroyed the kek," the chieftainess repeats. "Put kek skulls up as warning to other kek."

[Jenara]

"That would be them." Arei lowers her head. "You were protecting your people."

[Nuke]

"Two kek come seven suns ago. Try and kill aarakocra. Aarakocra kill. Have no choice. Call on air spirit, destroyed the kek," the chieftainess repeats. "Put kek skulls up as warning to other kek."

That stuck in Val's mind and she remembered what she had in her pocket.

[JadedDM]

As the meal comes to an end, the various birdmen retire to their giant nest for the night. At least a couple remain on watch duty, though.

"You stay night, but leave morning," the chieftainess says. "Aarakocra not take kek's meat, so kek leave aarakocra alone now."

Although the nest itself would probably be uncomfortable for the party, there's plenty of room by the firepit for them to set up blankets or sleeping bags, if they have them.

It is now 9:00 PM.

(OOC: I'm just going to assume everyone had their fill of food and drink, and so everyone is good for the day.)

"Thank you, we sorry for shooting Son." Arei says offering her hand, "We talk to Kek, tell them what is going on." Un-shouldering her pack she produces a blanket, which she rolls up in as the group is ready to rest.
