An expedition with the "Seagull"

Desolate and abandoned, the evil alchemist’s mansion stands alone on the cliff, looking out towards the sea. Mysterious lights and ghostly hauntings have kept away the people of Saltmarsh, despite rumours of a fabulous forgotten treasure. What is its sinister secret?

It almost looks as if the path had been established to give a panoramic view of the bay, just for the pleasure of it. As the group follows it, they can see that the tidal pools below them are full of life. The water is slowly rising, the incoming waves filling the lower pools completely now. They get closer to the rock where the human figure sits on. A long, heavy chain is visible beside it. The figure is definitely female, but the legs seem to be covered in fish scales and end in flippers, not feet. As the group reaches the point where the shore is closest to the rock, she looks at them and calls over: "Please! Help me!" she pleads.

Vee follows the others on the path. As the woman calls, she watches the boys couriosly, holding her staff ready to knock out the Gentalman, if one of them has the idea of helping the girl. (Which rather would help the siren to get dinner)

"To me, that looks like a Trap? One of you men sees this innocent creature, helps her.... And end up like the others." Brax looks down the Valley.

"Vee, come with me, Kim, Echo stay with them, make sure the don't do anything silly." Grabbing Vee by the hand she moves to the figure slowly.

"Who are you to tell me what to do?" demands Echo of Brax.

Amon intervenes. "If it is a trap, then sending only two people in is a foolish course of action. We should all go, so if we are attacked, we can help each other out. Besides, that is clearly a mermaid, not a sirine or sea nymph as I first suspected."

Gunter nods at Amon's words and unshoulders his bow, readying an arrow just in case.

"Very well." Brax replies, staring daggers at Echo for a brief moment.

The trail leads down to a series of tidal pools that will all be completely underwater at high tide. They are filled with algae and the myriads of small creatures that are specific to that environment. Some might have stings and spines. The tide just begins to come in again, so it is possible to get to the rock if one doesn't mind to get wet up to the belly. Apparently, behind the rock with the figure on it, the tidal zone is over, it should be possible to get to it by boat from the sea even at low tide.

The young woman stretches her arms towards them, the wrist of her right hand is manacled and a chain extends from it. She is very beautiful with her blue-green hair, her bare breasts and the glittering scales that cover her lower body with the fins instead of feet.

(INT check from Amon and Echo please)

"A Mermaid?" Brax asks with a raised eyebrow, "A strange creature, unless one of you fancies getting wet we will not be making it to her this way.."

Echo remembers from one of the books she's read that mermaids have the lower body of a fish. The creature on the rock, however, has two legs with fins and scales, characteristic of tritons, powerful sea creatures that are rumoured to be highly intelligent descendants of water elementals.

This female specimen of the race, however, does not seem to be able to understand Common, she only looks at Amon and continues to call "Help, oh please, help!"

(She knows Common as much as I know Russian or Japanese. I can say "Na sdrowje" or "Sayonara", especially when I'm told to do so, but cannot understand a question put to me in that language)

"Fool," Echo says. "That is no mermaid, it is clearly a Triton."

"Triton? They are said to be creatures of good from the Elemental Plane of Water," Amon realizes. "We should try to help her then. She may know something about who is behind the kidnappings, and besides that, it's the right thing to do."

"Help her how Master Amon?" Brax asks with a raised eyebrow. "Do you skills allow you to walk on Water?" She grins, "Someone will need to swim out there."
