Hmm, I think it could work, with some modifications. The kit specifies that the Cavalier gets a +3 reaction bonus from anyone of his own culture, for instance. But at this point in time, the common folk despise the knights (blaming them for not stopping the Cataclysm).
The only problem are the requirements: STR 15, DEX 15, CON 15, INT 10, WIS 10. Sturm meets all of those, except the Dexterity one. He's 3 points short there. We can possibly work around that, though. We'll need to get him a horse. Maybe he already has one back in Solace, and he had to leave it behind when they fled? Or maybe he can find one along the way.

Breila, a kit is something that is only found in 2E. It's basically like an add-on to your base class, changing it in some way. For instance, a fighter can take the berserker kit, which will have some benefits and hindrances, like the ability to 'go berserk' during battle.
A character can take one kit and only one kit in their adventuring career. They can lose or abandon the kit, but never take a second one.
There aren't many good clerical kits. There's Barbarian Priest, which gives you the ability to incite berserker rage in warriors and gives you a reaction bonus to other barbarians, but a penalty to civilized folks. That seems a bit of an odd fit for a follower of Mishakal, though.
Other than that, I can't really think of any kits that might fit Goldmoon well.

They were an interesting idea, a way to make not all warriors the same for instance, I did like them, but it lead the way to the 3rd Edition min/max fest!!

Yes, some kits are just downright broken. Some are too powerful, others too weak. Others are downright pointless (I know of at least a couple that offers no benefits or hindrances, just dictate what kind of gear you can carry and that's about it).
But some can add color to your characters, make them stand out more or better fit your idea of how a character should act, mechanically speaking.

Poor Goldmoon, the only thing Riverwind couldn't protect her from. Was it the natural 20?
I'd be willing to take on another character as we move forward.
As for kits, I am reading 'the complete rangers handbook' and I note there is no archer kit.
Wasn't there one in an old issue of Dragon or Dungeon?
I would like to swap the 'sword and shield fighting style' for 'two weapon fighting'
And I would change the short bow to a long bow.

Interesting Idea...

I seem to recall something like an archer kit...maybe in the Book of Halflings or the Book of Elves? I don't remember anything like that for humans, though. I'll have to check.
You realize that as a ranger, Riverwind can dual-wield without penalty already, right? Two Weapon Style won't really give you anything other than the ability to dual-wield two M-sized weapons, just so you are aware.
As for short bow to long bow...that's fine. The only difference between the two are range and cost.

or Dragon Magazine 45.....
available online is you look.
essentially adds 'point blank" as a range....and allows for +damage due to strength. provided they use a long, composite or great bow.

That's the same thing then as just putting your weapon specialization into bows then. It's in the PHB, point blank offers a +2 to hit, lets you use your strength bonus and allows you to fire a bow before initiative is rolled, assuming you have it nocked and ready beforehand.

cool, makes it easy then.
I'll take the bow specialization with my new WP and try to find a dagger laying about as we run....

That's right, some of you will gain new proficiency slots when we level up. Might be worth thinking about now, so when the time comes, you know what you want.
Tanis will acquire 1 WP and 1 NWP slot.
Goldmoon will acquire 1 NWP slot
Riverwind will acquire 1 WP and 1 NWP slot.
Sunstar will acquire 1 WP and 1 NWP slot.
Furthermore, Caramon and Sturm will both hit level 7, which means their rate of attack will increase. They will be able to attack twice per round with their specialized weapon (long sword for Caramon, two-handed sword for Sturm) and 3/2 rounds with all other melee weapons they know.
All of this should come in handy next time we fight a dragon, as we don't have a Blue Crystal Staff anymore to help us out.

I have been concerned for a while now, that I have been holding up the game with the infrequency of my posts. As it is, I can't say that I'll be able to post more regularly in the near future. If you wish, I will bow out to allow a more active player. If you are okay with the irregularity, I'll stay on.
I can't think of any kits that would fit Caramon at this point.

I wouldn't worry about that too much, mltillis. As long as you are having fun, that is all that matters. Even if more players do sign up, I still have three unclaimed characters that need players (Tanis, Flint and Raistlin).
