I live in Harrison, NY (Westchester county) about 20 miles North East of Central Park. I checked my house's elevation yesterday (about 61 feet) so I don't expect much storm surge ... that and Westchester is really only exposed to Long Island Sound - we have Long Island 'protecting' us from the Atlantic.

Hurricane Irene has come and gone, and although I feel bad for the folks who did have problems from the storm, I have to say that given all the pre-storm hype we endured for the past three or four days, the storm itself really did not live up to the expectations.
Really, the rainstorm we had two weeks ago was worse. In fact, we've had half a dozen storms this year alone which were more severe than this supposed monster hurricane.

I would totally agree ... my wife has dubbed it Hurrican't Irene ... with the byline - 'guess things really are bigger in Texas'. However, I just walked my dog and would estimate by the number of generates going that about 30-40% of houses have lost power - I saw 1 tree that had taken down wires. Apart from that, just some typical hurricane rain with little or no wind to speak of.

Every time I speak with Maughus I keep expecting him to reply with something along the lines of:

"When the greyhair is dead, Maughus will eat his heart."

I know we've got people from all over the world on this board, but for those of you in will be in the NYC area the next two weekends (this may only be Ruff, but whatever) I will provide the following public service announcement:

On Saturday and Sunday 10-11 and Saturday and Sunday 17-18, my medieval recreation group will present our annual
Sands Point Medieval Faire
on the grounds of the Sands Point Preserve, 127 Middle Neck Rd, Port Washington, NY

As always, I will be appearing/performing in the faire. So if you show up, look for a guy wearing the arms that appear on my posts.
Sands Point Press Release wrote:The Sands Point Preserve great lawn, baronial Castle Gould and Hempstead House provide the perfect backdrop for the annual Medieval Festival which features knights in shining armor, medieval archers and kings and queens.

Each day, the festival begins with a procession of the royal court to the viewing stands, followed by battles among knights in shining armor armed with swords, maces and battle axes. Twice a day, jousting matches are held on the lawn behind Hempstead House, and exhibitions of archery skill by medieval bowmen and “fight the knight” demos are offered several times a day. At the close of each day, there is the “storming of Castle Gould” to free the captured queen, followed by a meeting of the Royal Court to determine the fate of the queen’s kidnappers.

Throughout the day, the historic atmosphere is enhanced with period entertainment, including instrumentalists, madrigal singers, a dance troupe and a traditional Maypole dance, as well as a medieval-style puppet show performed by noted puppeteer Fred Greenspan. Other activities include a fashion show featuring the ornate costumes of lords and ladies, craftspeople demonstrating a variety of fine skills, and games for children and adults.

During the Medieval Festival, all visitors to the Sands Point Preserve pay the Festival admission of $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 4 - 14. Children under 4 years of age are free with a parent.

Jen - as a writer, you would appreciate this.
I had a flash of inspiration, one that wouldn't exactly have fit in with the information already presented (it would have caused a big plot hole, in other words) but it would have been so amazingly disquieting to you, my players, that I considered putting it in anyway.

When Angel said to Salia:
Jenara wrote:"I am sorry, I did not mean to bring up such bad memories. You owe him a great deal then, I understand, a loss of that kind is terrible, I too know the loss of a Mother."
I thought of saying:

"It's alright," Salia replies. "I still get to see her. Master Fraso animated her as a zombie and he keeps her in the cellar."

It would have taken the campaign into a much much darker place, not somplace I really want it to go, but it would have been so cool.

Hmm - it is only 47 mins from home and, just today, the wife said that she wants to go out somewhere. I might just 'surprise' her with a trip to long island.

What time is a good time to arrive?
