(Ooc: please delete if not allowed).
Thoreau sees the fleeing Orc, puts back his ears and and with a determined feline snarl, sprints and leaps on the retreating Orc's back, sinking his claws and fangs in...
Claw [1d20] = 15 (AC:3 rear/slashing) claw [1d20] = 12. (Ac: 6 rear/slashing) bite [1d20] = 12 (AC:6 rear/piercing)
(If both front claws hit - do rear claws rake?)

Silently as he can, Linar takes two more swipes at the now-wounded foe.

@Tristen - I'm away at the moment and can't get into Unseen Servant so please would you do Linar's rolls for me? (I should be back home at end of the week and can look up my password then.) Thanks very much..

[ok chris, i can do that.]
[Garroth, you are correct that it is not allowed. an animal companion isn't controllable like that. and a very young elven cat certainly wouldn't attack an orc if it was retreating.]

Van will continue to bind Gar. If all is well with him, he will assess the danger and position himself between it and Garroth with staff raised

Once Salem is squared away, Boyd retrieves his axe and climbs back into the saddle. "Well, pal? You want to go get him? Sniff him out and we shall run him down."
"No matter where you go, there you are."

Ooc: yes, but the cat rolled above 12... (where is that tongue emoji...?)

Re: Act 1, Scene 2: “The Edge and Back” (Group B: Main Game
Boyd quickly grabs his axe and Salem takes off through the woods after the orc, snout to the ground; the Dwarf and Boar leaving Van and the unconscious Minotaur behind. The Elf hears a call in a familiar voice from the road 40 yards away, Did you find them? What has happened? Eariel asks, in Elven.
Meanwhile, far out of sight and sound of the others, Linar continues to fight for his life alone in the dark. The guttural sounds of combat surround the Drow as he continues to attack. His longsword whips through the air with an audible whiff! Thrusting into the darkness, the scout’s toe catches on an unseen root! Not only does his blade slip free as he uses his offhand to catch himself against the ground, but the clatter makes a considerable amount of noise as the blade strikes a nearby stone.
The crash clearly announces his location in the dark! Suddenly his body erupts in agony as he feels the bite of the axe, crashing into his back to the sound of rending flesh and snapping bone! Give it up, cave-elf! The orc growls.

Linar stands as quietly as possible.
if a sidestep is possible to potentially avoid a hit then he'll try that too.

All the healing water has gone now, correct?

Are there any fallen orcs around the area Van is at? If so, he searches any orc body. The elf is careful to keep Garroth in line of sight- and trying to maintain awareness of any foes about.

Re: Act 1, Scene 2: “The Edge and Back” (Group B: Main Game
[I’ll move Linar to his private thread for now until he rejoins the group. Yes, the mana water has lost its magical properties by now.]
Boyd and Salem continue tracking the wounded Orc through the woods, but to effectively follow the trail the boar is having to move at about half-pace. It is obvious the orc is running for his life, and thus easily outpacing them. If they keep the trail, should eventually lead to wherever he ends up; but there is no telling how far the bandit can run in his current condition.
Rather than responding to the half-elf, Van begins searching one of the fallen orcs. He finds a couple of meager coins and, much to his surprise, a small tin vial of some kind of liquid! It is shaped like a curled horn and sealed with yellow wax. Even more surprising, perhaps, is a rough-cut yellow gemstone he finds in the orc’s boot! He soon hears the sound of her moving towards him through the woods. What happened, Vanidur? Where is everyone else? She closely looks at the minotaur’s body until she determines he is still breathing. At least he’s still alive… where are the Dwarf and Drow?
Thoreau curls up next to Garroth’s head, mewing and keeping his sharp young eyes on the surrounding forest.
====
Vanidur searches O8 and finds:
2 cp, 1sp, a rough-cut yellow gemstone, a metal vial of liquid!
Ok, I seriously rolled in the top 5% on a d100 for that orc’s loot… crazy right? Apparently this one had it hidden from his leader, lol

Missed that call for Van- sorry about that!
Van will reply, "They are dealing with the rest of these Orcs.... That way..." Van will point to the direction Boyd went. "Do you know anything about healing? Gar is in a bad way and I've done all that I can to help him."
Van will examine the stone and the vial of liquid. Any marks, or symbols? Can he determine the type of stone? Is it clear or opaque?

Re: Act 1, Scene 2: “The Edge and Back” (Group B: Main Game
[The only marks on the vial are those designed to make it look like a horn. Make and int check for the vial. Actually, Van has seen a lot of stones in his jewelry work, you can make a craft check to get at least a rough idea of the stone. This one is clear and yellow]
Re: Act 1, Scene 2: “The Edge and Back” (Group B: Main Game
Van studies the vial... "Hmmmmmm...."
IntCheck on vial (16):[1d20] = 6
OOC: How's the craft check again? d20+1 or does the 13 on my sheet include it?

Re: Act 1, Scene 2: “The Edge and Back” (Group B: Main Game
[The craft check would be straight d20, need 13 or lower]
Van realizes the horn-shape is much like the ear-trumpets people with difficulty hearing use sometimes.

Re: Act 1, Scene 2: “The Edge and Back” (Group B: Main Game
"Ah... Hmmmmm.... Perhaps a potion or salve for hearing.... More study for that one.. A Detect Magic later may help on that score." Holds the gem to the light of the sun....
Checking the gem (13): [1d20] = 11
Phew! Just low enough!
