I would say whoever he sees as scouting.

Katten and Linar are well behind Garroth. So he would want to stay 30' behind the farthest ahead.

So does the absence of any GM post for Linar is mean that the elf hasn't finished examining the trinket? Or, if he has, that the uncharted ground to the S is a blank wall?
Otherwise, what does 120' infravision show in a southerly direction?
