Well, she's full of her Godess (and of herself, probably).

Indeed. Too much so, it would seem! How many people about to die depends solely on who wins initiative at this point. :D

Does the staff get initiative, too?

It doesn't have its own turn in battle, no. It may be sentient, but it still requires a person to wield it.

I thought of the innate powers that can't be controlled by the wielder (like teleport)

Ahh, well that's more of a free action. The staff performs those automatically of its own accord, but it need not roll initiative for them. It only has two such powers, though. Teleportation, as you mentioned, and the ability to deflect dragon's breath.

Teleportation takes up 15 charges and is basically a contingency in case Goldmoon is about to die. Like if she fell off a cliff or was pulled off into a river's current. Or if she were, as an example, about to be stoned to death for heresy by her own people. :P

The dragon's breath deflection kicks in automatically (assuming she has 10 charges to spend) the moment a dragon tries to breathe on her.

Rats, I was hoping the dragon would get off at least one attack first. :P

Don't worry, Breila, you're not quite done yet!

And even if Goldmoon was dead... she did what her Goddess told her, that was right...

Oh, she's dead alright. But death does not always necessitate the end of one's journey. :D

Anyway, we're not done with this adventure yet, but we are getting close to finishing it. The end of chapter four means the end of the first module, Dragons of Despair (and the first act of the book, Dragons of Autumn Twilight).

Now, I said before that instead of giving XP in this game, the party members will level up at the end of each module. But, I ran into a slight hiccup regarding one of you...

Okay, so I said before, in the original modules, Laurana is not supposed to be introduced until DL2 (and doesn't become a PC until DL6). We made an exception, though, introducing her earlier. Problem is, I made her level 4. I'm not sure why, maybe I got her level confused with Tika? But according to DL2, she's level 3...and then becomes level 4 in DL3.

To quote the kender, "Oops."

That means in DL1, Laurana should have been level 2. Which actually makes more sense. She's a princess, not an adventurer (not yet in the story, anyway). She would have basic combat training, like all elves, but level 4 is awfully advanced for someone who has never had a real adventure before. I should have realized that earlier.

Ah, well. I'm not about to de-level her (although in hindsight, that pack of wraiths she ran into in the swamps could have done it for me!), I'm afraid I will keep her at level 4 for now, until the story catches up with her. That means she will not level up at the end of DL1. Sorry, Jenara.

Everyone else, however, will. Furthermore, if any of you would like to take a kit, let me know. I was hesitant to bring up the idea earlier, but it's possible now. Just tell me the kit you want and what book it's from. But, the kit should make some sense for the character. Tas becoming an assassin or Laurana becoming a berserker just seems off. In any case, it's totally optional, not at all required to have a kit. Just thought I'd throw that out there. I figure that those of you who have stuck with us this long are likely in for the long haul (hopefully). So I'm not as opposed to a little further customization than I was when we first started.

Speaking of which, if you decide you aren't in this for the long haul and want to bow out soon, you should probably go ahead and put in your two weeks notice now, as we're wrapping things up. On the other hand, if there are any lurkers out there currently reading this, and want to join, I still have four NPCs that need players--and a number more once DL2 gets going.

Oh, and because this game has so many cast members, and it's entirely possible I could get overwhelmed with NPCs, if anyone wants to take a henchman, I'd have to ask that they take full control of the character--that includes roleplaying and combat. That means, Jenara, if you still want Magpie, you would need to take full control of her. I might be able to take on the burden of controlling the henchmen later on, when I'm juggling less PC characters. But for now, I've got my hands full as it is with Tanis, Raistlin and Flint.

Okay! I have more to say, but I'll wait a bit until we're closer to wrapping this sucker up.

Wow! That was.... ummm well we still have to get out of the city!

While I am slightly ... ummm... well everyone wants to advance don't they!? Really levels and the like arent really my bag anyway! And yes, she is a little high level for the princess she is, hell it kept her alive, thats all that matters.

Yes, it would be so funny to get Magpie as Henchman, can you imagine Laurana trying to introduce her to manners?? lol.

Noble kit suits Laurana, after all, thats what she is, but does she need it? Doubtful.

The Noble Warrior kit? That's in the Fighter's Handbook, right?

You could also give Magpie a kit, if you want to. She actually has some pretty good stats for a gully dwarf! If you want to give her a kit, I'll apply it at the end of this chapter, when I relinquish control of her to you.

I seem to recall that near his death, Gunther Uth Wistan took on a gully dwarf ward, too. Even left some of his estate to him when he died! So I guess in this universe, Laurana is the one who starts that trend. She was taking gully dwarf wards before it was cool!

There actually is a Cavalier kit, which fits Sturm so well, its like they got a Knight and made a kit, even the hindrances fit Sturm, all these things are in the code anyway.

However, Sturm is a Noble by birth, but a fallen "'disgraced' one, so I would like your view on that!

ummm.... I only have the PHB and the DMG, could someone please explain to me what a kit is and where to find info on that? (Not that I would need it for Goldmoon as yet...)

Check your e-mail.

And A kit is something you can choose to take, it gives you benefits and hindrances, to make your character more rounded.
