Re: Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?
Jim scouting. Then Sue Woody Darren.
Re: Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?
The group proceed apace, almost as if they's been born sewer rats.
======
I'm intending to abtract this to some extent.
Anyone not liking the sound of that, please shout out!
Otherwise, Jim on lead:

Otherwise, Jim on lead:
- 4 Perception skill checks and 2 separate 1d12 rolls.
- 2 Perception skill checks and a single 1d12 roll.
- 4 Survival skill checks (wirth Guidance).
Re: Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?
Perception(Wis)(2): [1d20+2] = 3+2 = 5
Perception(Wis)(2): [1d20+2] = 4+2 = 6
Wow, just wow. The most cluessless watchman ever. How did he get promoted?
[1d12] = 10
Also updated the body search in my private thread in response to your questions.

coin in closed fist, moving in short bursts keeping an ear out for any sounds that might alert him to anything other than empty sewers.

Jim sees Sue poring over the corpse.
Seems there's something he can't quite work out and maybe another opinion would help..?

Jim moves over to Sue and asks "Need a hand or two?"
OOC - Any particular rolls you'd like from Jim in regards to helping Sue checkout the body Mr DM?

"Yeah. See this. And these?" He points out the mystery puncture hole, and the tattoos.

Survival checks
[1d20+2] = 16+2 = 18 + [1d4] = 4 =22
[1d20+2] = 19+2 = 21 + [1d4] = 1 = 22
[1d20+2] = 10+2 = 12 + [1d4] = 3 = 15
[1d20+2] = 17+2 = 19 + [1d4] = 2 = 21

Re: Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?
Examining the body, Jim points out the puncture wound looks like it is multiple perforations to Sue "I am reasonably sure this wound is probably where a creature would have sucked out it's liquidized meal. If it is a spider it would be a REALLY big one. Possibly dwarf sized!"
Jim lifts the left arm and studied the complex design tattooed on it. "Reminds me of one of those tattoos that you sometimes see on Waterdavian Guild members. I don't recognize a specific guild but the look of it seems right for that."
While he has the arm lifted he pulls a sheathed short sword from under the body and presents it to Sue. "Another weapon for the collection it seems"
Pointing to the snake tattoo and the i love mom tattoo he suggests "I don't think these are significant other than showing that perhaps our friend here had questionable taste."

Does the short sword look in good shape?
"Ah great... bigger spiders. Well let us get on our way. We should be getting close to meeting time."

Re: Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?
With direction from Woody, Jim leads the quartet twenty paces* west where the six foot wide tunnel breaks out into a twelve foot wide tunnel.
A single three foot wide ledge follows the near [east] side of the wider tunnel to the right [northeast] and left [southwest]. Sewage flows steadily towards the left.
Heading left brings the group to a sewer junction, some thirty five foot wide with a twenty foot wide sewage tunnel entering from the northwest.
The wider tunnel has a pair of three foot wide ledgess, one on each side. There's no obvious way to cross between the ledges.
Sewage from both tunnels cascades noisily and unpleasantly downwards into the junction chamber.
There are no grills or barriers to be seen, although just in front of Jim an iron staple-ladder leads down.
Twenty foot lower down in the chamber two more tunnels take sewage away to the left [southeast] and straight ahead [southwest]. The wider tunnel has two ledges and the narrower one has one ledge. Woody thinks this is the meeting chamber where Taffis Bornam would approach from the southwest and whoever he meets would approach from the northeast.
What next?

*Pace is double step, about five foot

Re: Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?
Did we come in from the NE or NW? The ladder is on the easterly side of the NE path.
Basically we need to do the opposite of what we did before, go down, use the pole to vault across, and pretend Bornam is coming from the SW.
Unless I'm lost.

The PCs arrived from the NE (12' wide) passage.Nocturno wrote:Did we come in from the NE or NW?..

Re: Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?
What side of the NW passage are we? Close to the NE passage? One vault across, go down the stairs. Vault across again and what for the contact SW and SE junction?
We are going to need to prepare a plan of action. I need a refresher of who I'm impersonating and for what reason. I'm supposed to be dead but the contact doesn't know that.

Re: Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?
The party are in the NE* tunnel on its sole ledge (which is to the east).
Climbing down the ladder is trivial but to cross the SE tunnel requires a single pole vault but with Guidance from the aasimar this also becomes trivial; (no roll required).
The area appears, as yet, unoccupied.
Where will everyone wish to position themselves?
======
*My copy/paste error, now corrected in my previous post above. Ooops.

Taffis Bornam is dead and none of the party have heard him talk.
Whoever has seen Taffis can make (your choice of) a History or Nature skill check to recall details. This can benefit with Guidance from Darren.
Any that have not seen Taffis but that have been told about him may also make a similar skill check but with disadvantage.
