Re: Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?
Round 2
Jim effortlessly crushes the bulk of his spider collection [#1 is defeated] as Darren prepares a spell.
The Flaming Sphere responds to Woody's short but complex gestures. It rolls along the corridor and bounces up to slam into a mound of spiders halfway up the wall. [#5, 4 fire(DEX save 19)] An unmoving humanoid form [F] can be seen collapsed in thecorridor. It's about eight foot beyond the doorway, and a similar distance this side of the Flaming Sphere.
Without breaking for a breathe the frenetic mage follows up with a firebolt into the same clump of spiders [#5, 9 fire] that survive the flames, albeit now diminished.
A heaving mass of spiders chitter along the wall, dodging Darren's triggered Radiant Word before swarming over Jim. [#3, Dash action]
One long breathe later Sue asks, "You good?" and squashes some of Jim's new collection. [#3, 7 crush, 10 crush] These arachnids seems to take a lot less damage than one might expect. Sue wonders, "Wonder if it is raining outside?"
Three more clumps of spiders dash along the ceiling or walls to swarm over Darren, [#4] Woody [#5] and Sue. [#6]
A chair flies across the room in Woody's direction. [Chair: AC14, 5 crush]
Key: 5' squares; Red star = Flaming Sphere; F = Fallen Humanoid Form

As a bonus action Woody move the flaming sphere into the chair from the north side (not beside Sue). Damage [2d6] = 8
Woody will use his staff to hit the swarm on him. attack: :
[1d20+3] = 11+3 = 14

"I've heard of tacky furniture, but not attacky furniture!" Sue does his best to mimic an intellectual voice.
Starting on the group that is on himself. He also moves 5' towards Darren.

Jim takes swipes at his new collection, curses emphasizing his swings.

If Jim's spiders are dispatched before he is done with his attacks, the rest of his attacks turn to the spiders on Woody.

Round 3
With swinging mace and fist Jim continues to crush more of his expansive spider collection. [#3, 7, 12 & 6 crush]
Darren manages to fry some of his spiders with a Word of Radiance. [#4, DEX 8, fail, 7 radiant]
The Flaming Sphere calmy rolls along to immolate the kinetic chair, carefully avoiding Sue and Woody. The chair darkens and starts to burn. [Chair 1, 8 fire]
The flames are very close to Jim albeit with some cover from the table.
Woody flails around with his quarterstaff and manages to squash the remainder of his spider swarm. [#5, 7 crush]
The unmoving humanoid [F] remains collapsed in the corridor and just smoulders.
Perhaps disturbed by the magical flames the big clump of sipders continue to swarm over Jim but cause him no pain. [#3, AC13 misses]
With a quip Sue edges closer to Darren and sqashes more of his own spiders, [#6, 12 crush, 8 crush] still in evidence but rather diminished.
The swarm on Darren lives up to its name [#4, 6 pierce] but the remnants of Sue's spider cluster are ineffectual. [#6, miss]
A heatbeat later a different chair flies across the room in Woody's direction. [Chair 2: AC23, 5 crush]
Key: 5' squares; Red star = Flaming Sphere; F = Fallen Humanoid Form; X = deleted chairs that have hurled across the room

Round 4
The Faling Sphere winks out of existence so Jim concentrates on squashing more bugs [#3, 11, 7, 11 crush] as the aasimar fries more some of his swarm with a Radiant Word. [#4, DEX 12, fail, 2 radiant]
Meanwhile Woody calmy incinerates a chair on the far side of the room [chair, 11 fire] and then takes cover behind Sue as he calls, "I believe there is an invisible person throwing chairs." Jim's hardy but diminished swarm fail to cause him any harm. [#3, AC 8, miss]
Perhaps put off by hurtling chairs Sue swings with his warhammer but only catches air although the back swing is better! [#6, 6 crush]

Round 5
Jim smears the rest of his swarm to nothingness, the few harmless survivors running for cover. Darren, however, is less successful as his foes cluster round his back avoiding his Word of Radiance.
Woody suceeds in freezing the table and cards in front of Jim while Sue quips, "Making friends Woody?" and slices the remainder of his spider swarm to oblivion and then moves across to kill some of the crawlers on Darren's back. [#4, 7 crush]
Darren's swarm finds its mettle and bites him in the back of the neck. [#4, 7 pierce] He groans, "That hurts!"

"I can't take much more of this. Who is coming with me. I'm out."
Woody uses his movement to go in the hallway in front of "F" and closed the door behind him. He will use his action to put sand on the ground in front of the door.
