The woman's expression eases slightly when Mira speaks to her in her native language. She accepts the proffered water from Pyos, giving the child-like kender a kind but somewhat sad smile.

Jerry considers the woman's condition and the new information from Mira. Magically speaking, it seems to be some sort of necromantic life-draining technique, where Radaga would benefit from those drained so. Elsa starts and gasps at Mira's comment about the stone. Do you remember?! The hag, she said something about having plans for us! She must have meant this!

Concern paints the woman's face when Mira switches to elven. Seeing that the others understand, she changes to clumsy Elven. Does it... not stop if I am free?

Pytor repeats the process and prises her other ankle free. [now there are two spikes and two hammers, so it would be easy enough for two people to work at the simultaneously on the wrists. Any volunteers?]

=====
Mira speaks harmonian [1d100] = 6, pass

Lol, turns out she does speak elven. Fun fact: there is a small percentage chance any Harmonian speaks a little Elven. For those who own or work in businesses, the chance is higher. Rolled a 1 on a d100 for her :lol:

Pytor bend/lift [1d100] = 31, pass! Pytor frees the girl's left leg

Jerry keeps out of the way of those working on the spikes but moves back to attend to the poor lady. She tries to catch the person's attention, to reassure her and distract from the beefier types wielding hammers. (elven) "Hey there! So, I'm Jerry. What's your name?...", "...Where are you from? And can you feel this?..." Jerry gently rubs the woman's legs, feeling for cramps or damage, and trying to restore circulation. She continues nattering in elven, smiling reassuringly, and works her way, testing and rubbing, up the patient's body. "...So were you in business?...", "...What business was that?...", "...How did you come to be in this region?..."

Jerry is ready to try and fix* any damage caused if one of the stronger folks fumbles with a hammer.

"You Speak Elven? That makes things easier." She sighs, "We don't know, I have heard stories, and the others have some knowledge, let us get you free and then... " They destroy it? How?

(Would it be possible to lift the slab? She's thinking they lift and throw it down the way they climbed up)

Karl takes the other hammer, "While I do not possess your strength, I will do as I can."

Getting a tad impatient Adran asked How close are you to freeing the woman? I'm not a fan of staying in this place for too long. He then scanned the room again and looked at the woman on the alter.

"If I may make a suggestion? It does not take us all to free her, perhaps you and those not involved in freeing the good lady take a look and see what else we face?" Karl suggests respectfully.

Jerry nods and smiles humourlessly to acknowledge the suggestion but remains focused on the welfare of what she now regards as 'her patient'.

Adran replied, I have been on my guard this whole time - I have been ensuring that the immediate surroundings are safe so you can free the woman. I will remain here until the job is done....

I am Tarlyn. The woman nods, indicating she can feel her legs. Business? No, my family farms. she seems confused by the question.

Working as fast as we can without splitting her open. Pytor renarks distractedly in common as he positions the newly freed spike against the metal plate by the woman's thin wrist. Karl watches and situates his own spike similarly. The pair hammer away, the ringing sound of steel-on-steel echoing throughout the chamber.

Adran continues to keep watch, but nothing sees to have responded to the noise of hammering yet...

Mira considers the slab itself, but a solid monolith this size must weigh thousands of pounds... Even so, it appeared to have been placed here rather than carved from the cave itself; and was mortared to the floor rather than partially buried..

Once the spike is in place, they each turn the warhammers and fit the pointed ends into the newly formed gap. Straining mightily against the handles, the powerful fighters press with all of their might, but the steel straps remain in place. With a sudden ting! the haft of Pytor's silver-faced warhammer breaks free! Staring at the broken handle in disbelief, the blacksmith hurls the ruined piece into the webbing nearby with a curse.

The woman frantically tries to wriggle her hands free of the partly wedged open straps, but the jagged edges of the damaged metal cut into her skin, leaving small smears of blood. [jerry can't quite get to the wrist area to properly tend to it yet because of the shackles.]

====
Pytor bend/lift 25%x2= need 50% or lower
Karl bend/lift 13%x2= need 26% or lower
Pytor and Karl bend/lift [1d100] = 51, [1d100] = 68, both fail!

Warhammer saves plain, silver [1d20] = 7, [1d20] = 5. pass (barely), fail!
Pytor's silver-faced warhamer breaks!

Tarlyn tries to free her wrists from the slightly wedged straps
Taryn, dex check at -2. [1d20] = 20, perfect failure!
Tarlyn cuts her hands a little on the sharp, damaged metal

"Perhaps if the pair of you swap sides and work on the strap the other has started?" suggests Jerry in elven (and then repeated in common). She shifts focus, (common) "Do we have anything else that can help? The hag must have had some way of ptting these in place. Did we take anything from her that might help here?" and then (elven) "Tarlyn, did you see how the hag, Radaga , fastened these straps? Did she use some sort of tool?" And then back to trying to keep the patient calm, "So, Tarlyn, tell me, how far away is your farm?..", adding as she works her way up the woman's torso, "..Can you feel this? Any pain there?..", "..Is your farm to the north? Or?.."

If no progress is being made Jerry explains, "I'm just going to try something. Relax for a minute, Tarlyn." With a smile she then concentrates and casts a spell [2.Idea] to seek inspiration from Mystra as to how they might better free Tarlyn.

Pyros helps by watching very closely!

He also offers up a piece of tail rations(haha), and more water if she wants either.

Adran half watches the progress with freeing the woman and then goes to each entryway to their immediate area and looks and listens for anything.....

"I'm Myra. The nice men helping you are Karl and Pytor. I know that hurt, they didnt mean to hurt you. Why don't you do as Jerry suggests?" She mentions to the two warriors, "We want to get you off this, then.. I think it should be destroyed."

Pytor gestures to the broken hammer handle he has cast aside, I can't repair that without some tools... unless someone can provide magical mending.

Adran scans the exits, but sees only the onel the very same through which the party entered.

Jerry says a prayer of inspiration. A flurry of color and light flashes through her mind like leaves ina whirlwind, passing, brushing, and ricochetting of of her mind. Latching on desperately, the Mystaran catches one... the spikes were like any ither metal... and could be magically altered. If the change were minor enough, even a cantrip might do

[will Sir karl attempt again?]
=====

Jerry casts Idea
perhaps an alteratiion cantrip could turn a spike into a pin and the strap could be slid off

Jerry says, "I've had an Idea. Let me try this, please."

On the next retaining pin the Mystran tries an Alteration Cantrip, "Let ths spike so rough and grim be slimmer, polished, becoming a pin!" She adds, "Pytor, will you try and slide this strap off, please?"

If this is successful in releasing one of the bonds holding Tarlyn she tries the same thing on the next spike: Alteration cantrip, "Restraint so tight become thinner and light!" "And this one, too, please."

If the final one hasnt been removed already Jerry goes again with another Alteration Cantrip, "Spike of metal, work of the hag, become half as wide then the job's in the bag!" "Final one, please."

"There you go, Tarlyn, you can move now. Let's sit you up and we can see about the straps."

======
Jerry Cantrip TN17 [1d20] = 7
Jerry Cantrip TN17 [1d20] = 13
Jerry Cantrip TN17 [1d20] = 6

***
If where the spikes are removed, can the straps be removed from Tarlyn?
Or are they still fastened in some way?
