Re: Naras' Vignette
Naras directs the dust devil, "Attack the Elven Archer with the bow." (#11)
She then strikes at the female half-elf cleric. (#10)
=========
If the archer & cleric expire and no other foes appear, then the dwarf continues, pointing out the smith (#8) to the dust devil, "Go and keep her head above water."
With a glance doen the south passage to check for more foes, Naras moves to the table and, assuming nothing expensive-looking at flamable is on it, she sweeps everythng from the table onto the floor and then tries to lower the table into the water (where #8 is). Maybe it can act like a raft so the smoth can get onto it like a beached whale.
========
How deep does this water look, anyway?

Re: Naras' Vignette
Naras kills the cleric while the dustdevil kills the archer. A few moments later, the dustdevil disperses, the spell keeping it here having ended; it returns to its home plane of existence.
Naras moves to the table and clears it off, and starts dragging it back toward the drowning woman. By the time she gets there, though, it's too late. The smith floats in the water, face first, not moving.
===========
Round 3!
Female Human Smith [8] makes a CON check [TN 10] (1d20-2): 17-2 = 15, pass.
Naras stabs Female Half-Elf Cleric [10] and kills her with her spear (automatic).
Dustdevil attacks Female Elf Archer [11] and kills her (automatic).
Round 4!
Female Human Smith [8] makes a CON check [TN 10] (1d20-4): 7-4 = 3, fail. She drowns.
Naras clears off the table and drags it part way (then runs out of movement).
Dustdevil dispels.
Round 5!
Naras drags the table the rest of the way.

Re: Naras' Vignette
Turning round to rescue the smith, Naras sees that she's floating face down, says, "Bugger!" and stops struggling with the table.
Unless interupted, she then does some tidying:
1) collects and stows her magical spear,
2) collects coinage from the chest and puts it in the warden's helmet,
3) looks through the chest and stuff swept off the table - anything of significance?
4) with a look down the south corridor for foes, and then keeping her back pointning away fro the south corridor (to minimise chances of invisible backstabbings), she starts to dat sown the fallen, in order: (#10, #11, #7 & #9).
Taking some stuff from the fallen with her, [OOC: will define next post], including the warden's helmet, the dwarf returns to where she expects her companions to be.

Re: Naras' Vignette
Naras collects her spear, then heads back to the chest. She collects the warden helmet, plus 52 gold pieces.
Returning to where the table was, she looks at what was swept onto the ground. There was some food--a loaf of bread, a cooked potato and some kind of charred meat. There was a bottle of wine, most of which has spilled out after being knocked off. There's also a coin purse and three gemstones. There may have been more, but they were probably knocked into the water below.
She then searches the corpses. The half-orc archer is wearing hide armor and carrying half a loaf of bread, 11 gold pieces, a short bow, an iron (not steel) dagger that was crudely forged, and 15 arrows with crude iron arrowheads. The human barbarian wears hide armor and carries a two-handed axe but nothing else. The elven archer wears studded leather armor and carries a club, a short bow and 15 sheaf arrows. Finally, the half-elf cleric is wearing chain mail and carrying a footman's mace and a holy icon of Crizza.

Re: Naras' Vignette
The dwarf stows away the 52 gps [1lb], then, in addition to the helmet [2 lbs], she takes the coin purse & 3 gemstones.
If uninterupted, Naras moves across to the four corpses, takes the additional 11 gps, 2 shortbows and the mace before uttering the 'Prayer for the Misguided' over them.
Looking down the south passage as she goes past, if nothing untoward, she returns to the west passage then turns and bows to the drowned smith, "Sorry girl, I tried but failed. May you find peace crafting within Gonto's Realm in your Afterlife."
The priestess then heads off to the cage where they found Agnas and where Leena and Pearl should be.
=========
OOC: Did the coinpurse contain the 3 gemstones? or something else?

Re: Naras' Vignette
The coinpurse contains 14 GP. It looks like there may have been more, but they spilled out and fell into the water when she knocked the table over. Taking them, she then acquires 11 GP, a mace, and two short bows from the corpses.
Looking down the south passage, it looks like it branches off to the west to another room or chamber. Ignoring that, she starts to slowly plod back to the cage, slowed down by all of the stuff she is carrying.
She finds Leena and Pearl by the cage. They have placed the prisoner inside the cage and locked it. His pants have been pulled back up, offering him some modesty.
"That sure took long enough," Pearl says when Naras returns. "Do you still have the key to this thing? Otherwise, we can't get him back out."
"Where are the other prisoners?" asks Leena warily, noticing that Naras is not only alone, but covered in blood, as well.
===========
Naras takes 25 GP [0.5 lbs], 3 gemstones, a short bow [2 lbs], another short bow [2 lbs] and a footman's mace [10 lbs]. She is now in moderate encumbrance.

Re: Naras' Vignette
Naras explains as she transfers the heavy stuff to the gated storeroom to the north, "Yes, still got the key, Pearl." She glances at the acolyte," It all went wrong, Leena. Frankly I completely misjudged the duration of the spells. I thought I could drag one of them here and get back to the other before the spells ended. But before I was all the way across the room, the archer jumped up and shot at me and I knocked the smith into the water," she signed. "Anyway, I went for the archer and he ran off. Too fast for me. So I spent ages trying to get the first one out of the water and then the archer turned up with a Crissite cleric, two more armsmen and a small air elemental. Short version is there was a fight in which I managed to get control of the elemental and those four were killed. I tried to get the elemental to help rescue the one in the water but its summoning spell ended at just the wrong time and the last drowned before I could get her out."
=========
OOC: All kit that was left here (sack, battleaxe etc) is now stowed in the lockable storeroom to the north, together with the warden's helmet [2 lbs], mace [10 lbs], short bows (x2) [4 lbs], which should reduce Naras's encumberance total back to 66.1lbs.
=========
Having transferred the kit across, and locked it securely, Naras asks, "What did this one (#6) say was to the south beyond where we captured him? If you patted him down, what did you find?"
Naras opens up the cage to the south, checks the adaquacy of the prisoner's bindings. If not already done, she pats him down, and then locks him back in the southern cell.
The dwarf announces, "Leena, will you stand guard over this one? If more Crissites arrive, run and get us. Pearl, you're with me."
She leads Pearl back to explore the final (?) corridor or room to the south of where the dust devil was encountered.

Re: Naras' Vignette
"I see," Leena says in response to Naras' story.
"He refuses to tell us anything," Pearl says. "Aside from the hammer, all he carried was this." She shows Naras 10 gold coins.
The man chuckles darkly. The news of the deaths of his comrades doesn't seem to phase him any at all.

Naras opens up the cage to the south, checks the adaquacy of the prisoner's bindings, before locking him back in the southern cage and then similarly securing storeroom to the north.
The dwarf announces, "Leena, will you stand guard over this one? If more Crissites arrive, run and find us, to the right, that's south of where you got to before. Pearl, you're with me."
She leads Pearl back to explore the exit, beit corridor or room, to the south of where the dust devil was encountered.
En route, spear at the ready, she listens for out of place sounds, and ponders about the prisoner's strange reaction.
~Was it typical of his religion? Or was he just nuts?~

Re: Naras' Vignette
As soon as Naras opens the cage, the man's leg kicks out, catching her in the face. He then spits at her defiantly.

Male Human Fighter kicks at Naras [TN 16] (1d20): 18, hit for 1 damage.

Re: Naras' Vignette
Naras hits him with the butt end of her spear,, saying "Desist!"
She will try that 3 times, after which she will stab him.
***
If he is subdued, Naras wsays, "Keep look-out, ladies!" and take the belt off her dress clothes (in backpack) and use that to secure the prisoner's feert together, then release his hands (prone) and remove his armour).
She will then re-secure his hands and sit him in the cell corner before trying to repair him (Heal skill, not a spell).
=========
OOC: Naras is striking to subdue. Is this -4 to hit and 25% dam is real? Are there penalties for unarmed attacks on an armed foe? How is subdual damage recovered??
=========
After all of which, back to plan A:

Re: Naras' Vignette
Naras slams the butt of her spear into the man's stomach, knocking the wind from his lungs. She then hits him again in the face, causing him to stagger and fall over, unconscious. When she prepares to hit him a third time, Leena grabs hold of the weapon to stop her. "Enough! You'll kill him, too!" she cries. If Naras relents, Leena lets go of the spear but otherwise will not do so unless physically forced to.
The man, as previously established, is wearing nothing under his armor. So when Naras removes it, she leaves him completely naked. Naras then tries to heal the man, but he remains unconscious, beaten and bloodied.
============
Naras hits Male Human Fighter with the butt of her spear, automatically, for (1d6+1): 4+1 = 5 damage (3 real, 2 temporary). Male Human Fighter is seriously wounded.

Naras makes a heal check on Male Human Fighter [TN 15] (1d20): 14, pass. She restores (1d3): 1 HP.
(OOC: Normally, non-lethal weapon attacks suffer a -4 to hit, but as he's tied up, you automatically hit. Damage is 50% real and 50% temporary. Temporary damage heals at 1 HP every 5 rounds.
He only has 10 HP, though. If you had hit him a third time, even dealing temporary damage, it probably would have killed him. Failing that, stabbing him definitely would have.)

Having locked the man up, the dwarf announces, "Leena, will you stand guard over this one? If more Crissites arrive, run and find us - where you got to before and then to the right, that's south. Pearl, you're with me."

OOC: Should I have been more explicit? Perhaps, "..striking to subdue until he desists or is subdued."
- [I sortof thought it was implied though, else there was no point is saying "Desist!" nor striking to subdue if one were intending to beating him til he dies.]
- The plan was only to stab him if failured to subdue him. I reckoned that failure to subdue him after 3 rounds would mean I was missing him.
OOC (2): I recall reading in one of the posts that rolling all this stuff was onerous for you. I'm happy to roll init, to hit damage by each round for you if you wish. And also quite happy if you want to take over at any point.

Re: Naras' Vignette
Naras leads Pearl all the way back to the tunnel that turns south then west. It is long and lit by torchlight. About half-way through, though, are several pieces of rope tied to the ceiling. On the ropes are tied a number of pots and pans and other pieces of metal. The ropes are positioned in such a way that it would be very difficult to pass by them without bumping into one, causing them to rattle and make noise, which would likely echo forward into the next chamber.
=========
(OOC: A successful MS check would allow you to pass by the ropes without making any noise.
And yeah, saying you strike until he goes down would have been better than 'strike three times, then stab.' I assumed you probably didn't want to kill him, since you said you healed him after. But it wasn't clear and you have used lethal force with everyone else so far, so...
Doing dice rolls is easy without Invisible Castle. What made them so onerous was I'd have to take the time to link each one. I prefer to either do the dice myself or have some impartial program to use, like Invisible Castle.)

Re: Naras' Vignette
Naras beckons Pearl back round the corner and then quietly casts a healing spell on herself (1.CLW) and then fishes out a piton and casts a spell on it (2. Silence 15'rad).
She then beckons Pearl to follow her, but keeping 5 ' behind the cleric, and they advance thru the early warning system of pots and ropes, leaving the piton on the floor so that its silence effect ends a few feet beyond the last (western) pot & rope..
The pair continue onwards until they find something significant.
