I just wanted to remark on one item regarding the ability scores roll. The strict rule is to role 3d6, but usually we roll 4d6 and drop the lowest. Am I right?

In Lost Souls, we roll 3d6; in War of the Lance we roll 4d6, drop the lowest.

Although in the next game I run, I'm thinking of just using point buy instead.

OK. I was worried I rolled 4d6 by mistake so I looked up for the rolls at Baeros Stats. What a relief. :)

Okay. Well, naturally, your character wouldn't know any of this.

Overall, the game is a sandbox. That means the party can do whatever they want, and there isn't a set plot, save for whatever plot the party chooses to follow.

So a year ago (in game time; it's been about two years in real time), the party (a female human cleric, a female human mage, a female half-orc fighter, a female elf thief and a male gnome thief/illusionist), got together and decided to do a job together. Despite the fact that they had no strong leadership and didn't even really like each other, for the most part, they decided to do another job together after the first was done. This job ended badly due to moral dilemmas and the party quit half-way through. They then investigated a murderer in the town they were in (Narin, on the island of Vaneil) and managed to discover his identity, but broke half a dozen laws in the process, and so were arrested.

They were exiled for a year from that island and were separated from the gnome. They boarded a ship called the Bullring to help protect some cargo and were attacked by the Soul Biters--a clan of orcs who have allied with a black dragon brood. So they had to fight orc pirates and black dragons (although they were very young ones). The party won, but the ship took massive causalities (like over 100 deaths) and the orc captain (half-dragon) and one of the dragons escaped.

The party separated after that. A year later, the human cleric, human mage, elf thief and the half-orc fighter all met up again in a different town (Condletun on the island of Hashadeth). The cleric ran a small temple in that town, and while the others were visiting, an assassin attacked her. During the battle, they met up with a male human ranger who helped them. The cleric revealed the assassin was sent by some pirates called the Poison Curse who she used to sail with. The captain of these pirates wound up dead, and they blamed her (she was his lover at the time), and tried to kill her. She escaped, joined the clergy, and hid for a few years. Now they had tracked her down again.

The party decided they had to deal with these pirates, but rather than fight them on their own, they would get the crew of the Bullring to do it instead. They boarded a ship to take them to the city of Deimos on the island of Mond, which is where the Bullring would be heading next. They could catch them there. However, a civil war erupted as the party arrived. A group of anarchists called the League of Freed Ones had summoned a bunch of undead and demons to raid the town. The party got caught up in it. The elf thief was wounded and infected with a demonspawn.

When the battle ended, the Bullring arrived, a tad too late. The elf thief needed treatment, so they sent her to another city. As luck would have it, a male elf thief was on the Bullring and he decided to join the party.

Anyway, the cleric asked the Bullring to fight her battle for her, but they weren't too keen on that idea. They had spent the last year trying to recoup their losses from fighting the Soul Biters, and weren't eager to fight more pirates--especially ones they had no beef with.

So a deal was struck. They had found a map to an island that once had a wizard's lab on it. It was forgotten after the Carnage War over 300 years ago. As far as anyone knew, the island was untouched since then--which meant it was full of magical goodies. One item in particular was described as a 'cannon of light' that could do massive damage to other ships. If the party went to the island and acquired the cannon for the Bullring, they could use it against the pirates for them. The party agreed.

Before heading to the island, the party stopped at a town to resupply. It was the same town they had been exiled from a year ago (Narin). As a year had passed, everything was cool now. While there, they ran into the gnome they had been separated from. He rejoined the party.

That pretty much brings us up to the present, I think.

It's a Cannon of Light from a Canon of light.

Maybe it's a Canon of light that shoots canons of light.
