Jim takes the moment to relax slightly, easing the tension in his muscles and running through some quick mental focusing exercises. Leaving the study of the runes to the others, he instead concentrates his senses on the environment surrounding him. (OOC - generally trying to be aware of any potential changes nearby and readying himself to respond)
If needed -
Perception: [1d20+6] = 19+6 = 25 with
Guidance: [1d4] = 1 (if applicable) for a (possible) total of 26

At Woody's suggestion Jim looks for secret doors while Sue tries to work out what "Fire Stone" runes might mean to dwarves.
Working along the wall Jim spots two hand-sized smooth, al,ost polished areas of stone abpoy one foot apart and halfway up the tunnel wall on the same side as the runes.

Do the stones have anything that would indicate they have been burned?

Nope. Perfectly, masterfully flat. In an exceptionally unobtrusive way that wouldn't normally be noticed apart from the astounding eyesight of Jim (and a bit of Guidance).

"These stones are odd" Jim muses. ""On your toes everyone! No idea if this will do anything or not." Jim pulls out both his maces and presses a mace head hard against each smooth flat stone.

"My guess is you'll need some heat for those stones."

"Sue, do you want me to fire a firebolt at the stones?"

"See if Jim's idea works first."

Thumping the stones one at a time seems to have no effect apart from the noise.

"Worth a try. Let me get out of your way Woody and you can have a try." Jim backs off and gives Woody some room to work.

Woody put a little distance and fires a firebolt.

How will Woody target the spell? Two bolts at the stone on the left? Or at the one on the right? Or one bolt at each?

One bolt at each starting with the left one.

The wall, and the stones in question, appear to take no notice.
However, Jim hears a really faint noise coming from the same section of wall. It sounds (to him*) like smooth rubbing noise perhaps like polished stone moving in a precise path.

Sue snorts. When he doesn't notice anything happen.
"So. Shall we hold hands? Or move on?"
