[Ooc: yes, you will get 1 nwp slot when you hit lvl 3 as a cleric and another at lvl 3 as a mage. The cost is 1 nwp slot each, but payment for someone teaching it isn't detailed anywhere that I'm aware. Typically I just say the skill is learned along the way if taught by someone traveling with them. With something like this that requires a workshop, she could probably just learn the ropes while helping-out in the shop as compensation. Maybe about 1 week of time, so no real gold cost]

Serath glances at Merrick and thinks over Ornvul's proposal for a long moment. It is an interesting proposal... I fear the Color Spray spell might be the only one I could have much success selling. He ponders it a moment longer. I'm not sure a complex arrangement would be worth the hassle, but I'd be willing to offer credit and say... an additional 25%? [meaning 125gp credit for a copy of the Color Spray spell] The protective amulet idea intrigues me. How exactly do those function? Merrick is also listing attentively.

Jerry says, " I accept, 125gps credit. Thanks you," and starts to get out her spellbook.
She explains that the amulet requires a certain quality {OOC1: cost 25gps level 1 spell, doubles per spell level} of jewelry {OOC2: talisman/amulet/broach whatever physical form} that rises with the difficulty of the offensives spell that it it to ward against. If the wearer fails a saving throw then the jewelry shatters harmlessly but absorbs the spell's effect for the wearer. The enchanter of the jewelry must know the spell to be protected against and it needs recharging {OOC3: lasts 1 wk/caster level}

Serath copies the spell down and marks Jerry's credit in a ledger. I might be able to sell some of those talismans in the shop, but there are likely few who would need them. If you're agreeable to it, perhaps customers could order them through the shop for a small fee that would go to the Silver Scale, and sold for a profit whoch would go to you?

"Sure, sounds fine, thanks. Would need someone to make appropriate talismans though. Could you arrange that?" replies Jerry, offering her handshake to seal the deal.

"Otherwise, when we both get a bit of free time I'd be pleased to help you to bind a book or two. I'd work for free just to learn the {OOC: NWP} bookbinding skill. I'm quite fast at learning new things so maybe I could learn papermaking back to back with it too,"

She smiled again at the shopowner, gave him a curtsy and nodded to Merrick, "Where next on the tour?"

I'm not sure what making the talisman would entail. Is that not something you have done in the past? To her next comment he replies I think that arrangement will work well for bookmaking, yes.

When she questions Merrick he responds, We can try Rautant's shop, but he may not be open yet... perhaps the Harmonic Hall and the Amphitheatre...

"Well, Serath, I've only made one in anger," replies Jerry, showing him the one that she has in place. "But I stake my life on the fact that I am fully proficient in this. It's really all a matter of time. Who is best in town for me to employ to make this small but high quality jewellery?"

Turning to Merrick she smiles and responds, "Those sound great. Lead on.." and Jerry gives Serath a huge smile and a wave goodbye; "Great shop!"

Serath thinks for a moment, There is really only one jeweler in town, Mademoiselle Argent Chevalier. She and her sons operate the Drop of the Moon. They work with all precious metals and can cut, polish and set gemstones as well. They are across from the Bank, just outside of the Northern entrance to the Meistersinger’s Mansion. The last is directed at Merrick. Jerry thanks the older half-elf and compliments his shop as the pair depart.

The morning is wearing on nicely, and it seems as if it will be a little warmer than the last. Perhaps spring would come soon… The town is beginning to bustle a little in the maturing morning. Just past the Silver Scale Merrick again points out the Blacksmith (BS); a simple but functional building that bears no sign. The open barn-style doors permit the sounds of hammer-on-steel to ring out into the street. Northeast they continue along the cobblestones until they come to a large-ish intersection. To the Left, Merrick confides, is The Songstress. Jerry observes the decent sized two-story Inn which makes up the entire Western side of the intersection between “The Loop” itself and the main road leading Northwest out of town. The building has been constructed so that it has a flat-faced view to the East. A large suite with French doors and a tiny but ornate balcony perhaps three feet wide form this side of the second story. A sizeable, delicately carved and painted sign above the door depicts a woman in red singing with hands folded at her waist.

Eastward they continue, the massive red cliffs at the NorthEast edge of town climbing high above the community like a protective wall. A considerable hill rises south of them in the center of town as well. Merrick explains that the Meistersinger or community leader of Harmonia lives there (#5). An octagonal wall some 12' high that rests atop the 15' mound of earth. The matte below the structure is clearly manmade and intended to give those within the walls an advantage over any who might attack. Delicate carvings cover the upper quarter of the wall, apparently paying tribute to great singers and musicians. Behind the wall, a lone tower of ornate stone can be seen as it just peeks over the top.

Eventually they come to a much more open area, peacefully resting against the Cliffside and a tall hill just within the southeast corner of the town walls. A stately mansion with spires mimicking a small castle stands proudly just off of The Loop to the south. Before it, to the East, spreads the grassy park area where musicians practice alone or in groups and locals can be seen taking their ease. Tucked into a nook in the cliff is a massive Amphitheatre. A large fountain stands between The Hall and the Amphitheater, depicting a bearded man playing a lute and singing. He sits along a bench and two huge, apparently napping, dogs lie at his feet. The figure is most handsome, yet the sculptor carved him in such a manner as to convey a sense of power and mystery.

Merrick guides her through the park towards the Amphitheatre itself, which seems to have been carved from the very rock rather than built. It has five concentric levels each leading downwards. The first four outer platforms are each 5’ higher than the next, and spread some 25’ deep. Stone seats line each of the landings and a shallow pit separates the innermost ring from a stage that stands 10’ above the lowest seats.

There is no visible way to access the stage itself. A massive clam-shaped overhang of natural rock shelters the platform, and ramps down the center and sides of the seating areas have been worn down by the passage of years and patronage of hundreds if not thousands of people. A scent of raw earth and stone lingers in the air along with a sense of presence… it may be nothing more than the rich culture and heritage of this place… Magnificent, isn’t it? Merrick asks quietly.

"Yes, yes it is. Do you sense anything, maybe a presence in this place?" Jerry replies.

{OOC: any sense of the presence? Malignant? Protective? Anything?}

"And what can you tell me of the man in the statue with the sleeping dogs? And the relationship of this place to song? Or is it to music in general?"

[Ooc: nothing as specific as that to the presence.]

Merrick takes a deep breath of the moist air, letting it out slowly. Hmm? Maybe... perhaps the gravitas of all the performers who have played here? I believe the statue is supposed to be the first Meistersinger of Harmonia. The man who established the town here. A native would likely know for certain. This has always been a musical country.

"Any reason why this has always been a musical country? Is there magic associated with the music?" Jerry explored. She studied the area again, this time looking for hints of residual magic.

If nothing, probably time to move on.

Jerry sees nothing obviously magical, and Merrick shrugs. There might be some historical volumes in the Bard College or the Meistersinger's Mansion. that speak of it. Most of the history of this place seems recorded in verse and song. I've only been here a couple of months... Mira found something yesterday, actually, but I'm not certain how accurate it is...

It was a book at the Toad's Toe... I thought it was a work of fiction, but the others seemed to take it quite literally. Mira translated it with a spell and read it to the group, but I don't remember much. She would likely recall it most accurately, bards being trained to memorize long passages of verse... if we had some way to translate it we could inspect it ourselves once Rautant opens... He checks the position of the sun. He may be open soon, usually at least by noon on week days...

"Well, I could learn Comprehend Languages for the translation, but that would be for tomorrow. Could we look at the book today though, do you think? Then I'd know whether to learn it once or twice (my limit) tomorrow. Talking of spells, I get that you're protective of any spells that you have, and that's ok. Given that we've shared what we already have.." Jerry does have the goodness to look a butchering here, "..I'm happy to share spells that I have with you, but you don't pass them on to others without talking to me first. And vice versa."
"Now, was there an offensive spell{1st level that you'd like like to be protected against?"

Jerry pauses for ny replies, then asks, "0k, where next?" And she smiles not least to indicate whatever he decides is ok

We can certainly look at it... The Toad is on the west edge of town, so Rautant will likely be open by the time we get there. That area of town is a little... unsavory... We can follow The Loop most of the way there and do some sightseeing along the way. He smiles as they begin walking.

Jerry goes on about their 'relationship' and trading spells again and he blanches before responding. I must apologize... I'm not really the sort who... I mean typically I get to know someone before... he sputters a bit more before continuing. I've never... moved so quickly... with someone before. I'm still reeling a bit to believe that we've only met less than a day past... I keep expecting to blink and you'll be gone... or to wake from this fever dream... I don't regret what has happened, I don't mean that at all, he says, taking her hand gently. I'm just not used to all this... He pauses in his speech for a long moment as they walk, resplendent mansions and manor houses with red-tile roofs rise on a high hill to the South. A small cobblestone road, the only other paved road Jerry has seen aside from the main thoroughfare, leads up the hill.

Trading spells is another thing... it's really not generally done, even amongst those who are very close... Serath and I don't trade, and I honestly don't think I've seen it done aside from very discreetly in a business-like setting... That is until you and the others came along... I nearly fell out of my chair when I learned they did right in the common room just the day you arrived! he shakes his head, still bewildered.

check out 'South Hill entry' (#4) and the Enchanting Lute (EL) on the map.
A mage's spellbook and spells are usually considered a very private matter. Asking to swap or giving away spells is often like asking to read someone's diary combined with asking them to trust you with incredible power (the spells a mage keeps can say a lot about them. What would you think if you perused a close friend's journal and found he murdered or robbed people?) In-game i sometimes allow it between PCs because frankly it's their own risk, but it can lead to issues. Buying a spell is different because it is in a professional style without extraneous personal notaion and often tightly limited to what is made available to the public.
