CH. 6: Clockwork Horrors

[JadedDM]

Kilak then looks between Val, Ouragana and Areilon, waiting for someone who was conscious then to answer his question. His face reflects his impatience.

[Breila]

Ouragana looks at Areilon. She feels reluctant to talk about the mysterious elf who appeared and disappeared with magical help. But she doesn't want her group to take the blame for Tinskin's death, either. And she knows she has a hard time saying things the right way for the dwarves!

[Jenara]

"He was killed by someone with magical aid, they hid in the shadows and struck him from behind." Arei says her voice raising a little. "I had planned to take him alive to be honest, but he was killed before anyone could stop it..."

"As to who it was, it was somewhat hard to tell while fighting for your life. Perhaps a patron of the Barnacle, I am not sure..." She looks to Val, Tia had saved her life... "Wouldn't you say Val?"

[Nuke]

Val answers. "I was fighting, didn't see." the half-orc says in her gruffest voice.

Kilak and Ovina share a quiet look.

"Uh-huh," Kilak says, skeptically. "Awfully convenient, that nobody saw the killer."

"I suppose we'll have more answers soon enough," Ovina says. "In the meantime, I am placing the four of you under arrest for violating curfew, breaking and entering, and vigilantism. Whether the murder of Tinskin or those girls are added to that depends on our investigation. Either way, you'll have to spend the night in a cell at the keep. Once we have a clearer picture of what happened here, we'll decide what to do with you."

"Cuff 'em, boys," Kilak says, nodding to the other wardens.

[HorizonsDream]

"If you are being less than honest at this point, then Octhanus help me I might kill you myself," Jocelyn says to Areilon. Though, she allows the wardens to arrest her at this point, as she doesn't seem to have much choice in the matter. "One of you guys," she says to the wardens. "Wouldn't be willing to let Noah, my mentor, know that I've been arrested, would you?" she asks.

[Breila]

"As Areilon said, Tinskin's killer appeared and disappeared quickly, with magical aid. From what I could see, it was a woman rather than a man, and taller than a dwarf" Ouragana offers. She lets herself be arrested without resistance as well.

[Jenara]

"No good deed goes unpunished..." Arei mumbles under her breath. "Ask him about Frisno, should tell you all you need to know." Opening her arms she allows herself to be cuffed, apparently familiar with the procedure.

[Breila]

"I have one question, though, if I may" Ouragana asks Kilak and Ovina. "When the Cohen talks with the dead, do they necessarily speak the truth or will they give the same answers as they would if they still were alive?"

[JadedDM]

"The spirit is compelled to tell the truth, as I understand it," says Ovina. "Although they can be tricky if you don't ask the question properly."

Assuming like the others, that Val does not resist arrest, the four of them are then escorted to the keep. All of their possessions are taken from them, save clothes and jewelry, and they are placed in a cell of their own together.

However, unlike one would expect from a dungeon cell, it's not too bad. It's clean and well-maintained. There are two bunkbeds, one on either side of the cell. There's a small window (barred, of course) with a nice view of the ocean down below, beating upon the cliff's bottom. There are two chamberpots (one under each bunkbed), but not much in the way of privacy to use them.

"We'll have this sorted out by morning," Ovina says.

"One way or the other," adds Kilak, a tad ominously.

The two then depart.

[HorizonsDream]

Jocelyn promptly walks over to one of the beds, and lays down.

[Jenara]

"Well that didn't go to plan did it?" Arei asks hopping up onto the top bunk opposite Jocelyn, "I never thought I would end up in jail."

[Breila]

"Well, we were likely to, given the attitude of the wardens to what they call vigilantism" Ouragana says, matter-of-factly. "We have become far too notorious in their eyes, I suppose. Anyway, once we get out of here, I think it would be a good idea to leave this island."

She walks over to the window and looks out to the ocean, unconscioulsy swaying with the waves. Then she turns to Val: "Could you communicate with your animal friend - Mist, is that right? - from here?" she asks.

[Jenara]

"I had planned too." Arei agrees, swinging her slim legs over the side of the bunk. "Where would we go? Find a ship, see where it is headed?"

[Nuke]

Val enters the cell. "Almost as good as the inn, but free." She is confident on the outcome here.
