"What direction is that eye stalk Jim?" "Can we continue forward around the right corner to try to avoid it?"

The "eye stalk or something" was in the pooled sewer liquids that ripple about three foot below the adventurers' ledge.

"Let's see if there is a way across over there." Sue points to the corner.

"Jim, watch the eyestalk or something, thing."

Sue will start to head around the corner.

Sue edges round the corner followed closely by Woody.
A mass of tentacles thrust down from the curved ceiling to loom at Sue. Each tentacle measures the length of a greatsword.

"What in the hells is going on in this place!"

Not yet trusting the new weapon, Sue pulls his long sword.

He will cast Hunter's Mark on the tentacles.(Bonus)

Then swing at them. Thrusting upwards hoping to cut a couple apart.

Round 1

At the first sign of movement Jim’s reflexes burst into action and he hurls a pair of darts past Woody’s left shoulder, over Sue’s right shoulder to disappear into the centre of the writhing tentacles. [#T1, 8 pierce, 8 pierces] Almost before the darts strike home Sue’s swinging sword, bolstered by Mark of the Hunter, slashes longs slices in the blubbery tentacles. [#T1, 14 slash, 15 slash] The slashed tentacles ooze with a grey gelatinous mess as one of them goes “Thwop!” across Sue’s throat. [#T1: AC28 crit! 4HP crush, poison save DC13] Sue sees a glint of sharp, white teethlike ridges as the creature munches on a pair of darts. The hissing breath of the creature is truly foul; the odour of rotten flesh.

Woody calls out, "Jim, we need your help," and throws a firebolt at the creature giving Sue a bad day. [T1, 5 fire]

The cess pool below boils briefly as another pair of tentacle creatures burst forth to attack the rear of the party: Darren.
Tentacles too!.png
Tentacles too!.png (143.02 KiB) Viewed 7522 times
The larger of the pair batters the armoured Darren with tentacles and then closes for a vicious bite. [#T2: AC26, 4HP crush & poison save DC13 {success}; AC18, 8HP pierce]
Darren is again smashed by the smaller foe's tentacles but he avoids the snapping bite. [#T3: AC19, 6HP crush & poison save DC13 {success}]

Blood flows down the defiant cleric’s armour. Stepping back five foot, Darren opens his mouth and it’s as if a quartet of skilled harpists play for their lives. Jim understands Darren’s Celestial words, “By Your Will, Morninglord, my soul ignites.” Misty-rose coloured light cascades forth from Darren’s eyes and mouth.
Misty-rose light.png
Misty-rose light.png (367 Bytes) Viewed 7522 times
With a few unheeded words and gestures, he calls forth a ghostly warhammer that smashes down on the smaller of his paired assailants. [#T3, 6 force dam, 3 radiant dam] He warns, “Beware! My light will char you!” The colour of the early morning sun shines brightly for ten foot around Darren, enveloping his assailants but falling short of Jim. Those enveloped start to burn. [#T2, 2HP radiant; #T3, 2HP radiant; Darren, 1HP radiant] Being within the (further ten feet) dimmer rose-light does not seem to harm Jim.

Round 2

Jim turns and successfully throws two darts at the larger of Darren's foes. [#T2, 8 pierce, 8 pierce]
Meanwhile Sue shrugs off his battering and delivers one in return, shearing off a tentacle as he quips, “These are the most populated..“ and then slices into the creature’s maw to cut off its sibilant hiss, “..sewers I have ever seen or heard of!" [#T1, 12 slash, 16 slash]

A couple of heartbeats later Woody swivels and crisps an area the size of a small shield on the side of Darren’s larger attacker. [#T2, 11 fire] Undeterred the creature flails at Darren while munching on a pair of darts. [#T2: AC26, 5HP poison dam & DC13 save failed] The cleric becomes stiff as a board and the smaller tentacle-creature takes full advantage, striking Darren with its tentacles. [#T3: AC20, 4HP poison dam; AC15 misses]
The spectral warhammer hovers while pink light continues to cascade from Darren’s eyes and mouth. [#T2, 2HP radiant; #T3, 2HP radiant; Darren, 1HP radiant] Darren shrugs off the poison, moving once again, just as the his smaller assailant collapses, lifeless, back into the sewer pool.
