"Jimbo, give me a hand up please."

If Jim helps him up I think tha twill be his action. If not he will do a swing at the thing again.

Jim will help Sue up. Pretty sure that will use his action for the turn.

======
Jim's choice of advantaged Athletics or Acrobatics skill check to avoid issues with footing.
Jim's assistance gives Sue advantage on a hard Athletics skill check to start getting out of the hole; (up 1'). It's possible, but difficult to get completely clear of the hole; (up 4').
A Perception skill check for Woody, please.

Athletics(STR)(7):[1d20+7] = 14+7 = 21
Athletics(STR)(7):[1d20+7] = 8+7 = 15

Now that Sue is out of the problematic spot, he will take another swing at the screaming pile.

Longsword: To hit: [1d20+5] = 5+5 = 10 Damage [1d8+3] = 2+3 = 5

[1d12] = 8 [1d12] = 9

====///=====
Now that we have damaged and physically interacted with the piles, can we tell anything different about them?

Round 16

Woody fires a Firebolt at the screaming thing to the right (NW) of him. [#F4, 13P fire] It burns and slumps, no longer vibrating. He sees a grey cloud edge into view on his right some 60’ away. More stirges. Lots.

To the south Sue says, “Jimbo, give me a hand up please.” Jim gives Sue a hand up and then carefully steps back onto the safety of the stone ledge. The three remaining mounds vibrate, screeching at their world. [Two 1d12 rolls, please]

Sue, celebrates being out of the hole by slashing at the adjacent screaming pile. [#F1, 5 slash] It snaps in half and slumps, no longer vibrating. The paladin carefully steps back onto the safety of the stone ledge.

Nature(Int)(0): [1d20] = 13

"Oh hells. Woody, you have any spells left that will cover an area? About that big?" He points at the Stirges.

=======///====================

Is the mound by Woody down?

Can Sue reach any of the screaming mounds?

Sounds like a band name.

[1d12] = 1 [1d12] = 2

"I see them. It's time for a fireball to end this."
Woody will move back to toward Jim. I see that as 15' straight back and cast fireball as long as he is faster than the Stirges. He will target right in front of them. The ball has a 20' radius. DC dex save 15.
Damage:[8d6] = 29

=======
Please will everyone give me an easy Acrobatics skill check. Woody is disadvantaged.
If everyone suceeds on this and the incoming foes don't beat Woody on initiative then this could nicely end the conflict.
(Woody could choose to envelope the remaining vibrating mounds.)
Please can I have another three 1d12 rolls.

Woody acrobatics: [1d20+2] = 3+2 = 5[1d20+2] = 20+2 = 22
Woody will envelope the mounds if he actually can and hit the stirges.

Round 17
Woody shouts above the shrieking, "I see them. It's time for a fireball to end this."
He scuttles back towards Sue and Jim.
Jim quick steps backwards giving Woody space while Sue throws himself out of the way, smashing into the tunnel wall rather than risk drowning. Seconds later Woody wiggles his fingers and a burning red pea shoots from his hands to immolate the tunnel a mere five feet or so in front of him.
Everyone is washed in a wave of heat as the red pea blossoms into a fiery explosion. [Three shriekers and 26 stiges die]

End of Combat

What next?

======
Everyone gains +444xp
Sue takes 2HP crush damage. CON saving throw for ½ damage
