Out of Character discussion

The 2E AD&D Homebrew Sandbox world of Genwald is large, ancient, and magical. There are many undiscovered/untamed places. The Sun Kingdom (European style, Late Medieval Human NG Monarchy) is the basic Campaign area, but PCs can end up anywhere.

The scars of ancient battles of titanic proportions mark the land. Wild magic zones, fantastical terrain, grand adventure, political strife, and even artifacts of wonder await. Choose your part and come make your mark on the world. A wide array of unconventional races and classes are available.

Garroth charges (+2 hit, -1 penalty to ac) G15 to headbutt.
Thac0 17 vs AC 6 (+2 charging): need 9+
[1d20] = 10,
Hit!
Garroth headbutt dmg [2d4+7] = 5+7 = 12
Not that it matters here, as Garroth already hit. But he has two humanoid proficiencies that can both improve his Thac0 with natural weapons. I didn't bother rolling as once I worked I had hit regardless, but if the first attack didn't hit, he could have made a proficiency check and been able to use the Headbutt in addition to his hand held weapons. Close quarter fighting can give a hit bonus to natural weapons, blunt and piercing weapons
Natural Fighting
This proficiency allows humanoids with nat- ural weaponry (claws, fangs, tails, etc.) a +1 damage bonus on all natural weapon attacks. In addition, they receive a free natural attack beyond normal attacks they are allowed. A successful proficiency check must be made at the beginning of combat to gain the benefits of this skill. Failure indicates that the benefits cannot be used for the duration of the battle.

Close-quarter Fighting
Humanoids with this proficiency have learned to fight in the cramped confines of dungeons and underground lairs. In such loca- tions, or in other extremely close fighting con- ditions, characters armed with bludgeoning or piercing weapons (or their own natural weapons) receive a +2 bonus to attack rolls. Slashing weapons cannot be used in close- quarter fighting. This bonus is not cumulative with wild-fighting.
A successful proficiency check at the start of combat yields this bonus. Failure means the humanoid fights normally.

as you said, it didn't matter because he hit anyway, so I didn't roll them.

As for this:
ausie wrote:[12 would be for normal Headbutt. The charge Damage was 24 as damage is doubled. There might not be enough of the goblin left to search ... Sorry Linar.. :(. ]
First: We're using the "Complete Humanoid" entry for Minotaurs, not the monstrous manual entry.
Second: even if we were (and we're not), the target would have to be 30+ ft away and over 6' tall, (which goblins aren't) for the doubler to apply.

I have visions of Katten telling people it was a random weapons malfunction and it's all clear.

Did no-one get the New Hope Reference?? I was paraphrasing:-

[Han answers the intercom after comandeering an attack station]

Han Solo: [sounding official] Uh, everything's under control. Situation normal.

Voice: What happened?

Han Solo: [getting nervous] Uh, we had a slight weapons malfunction, but uh... everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here now, thank you. How are you?

Voice: We're sending a squad up.

Han Solo: Uh, uh... negative, negative. We had a reactor leak here now. Give us a few minutes to lock it down. Large leak, very dangerous.

Voice: Who is this? What's your operating number?

Han Solo: Uh...

[Han shoots the intercom]

Han Solo: [muttering] Boring conversation anyway. LUKE, WE'RE GONNA HAVE COMPANY!
