Re: CH. 1: Haven and Hell
Kendra rolls her eyes as she watches Ward walk off. She doesn't see the point in saying anything because he wasn't going to listen to what she had to say anything. Though, it was clear that most of the people were fearful of the Holy Guard. That wasn't respect. Sooner or later, the people would rally against them. As she began her patrol once again, she couldn't help but think that maybe the people turning against the Holy Guard was going to happen sooner rather than later.
Re: CH. 1: Haven and Hell
Kynaston scrunches up his face at the hobgoblin's comment. He's suddenly unsure if he wants this kind of company to know his home address, but he resigns himself to his fate.
"I'd rather meet at the tankard, but if you all insist," he moans, "I'm at twelve river way, down by the, er... river. It's an ugly shack, so unless you read the number you might never find it in that neighbourhood."

Re: CH. 1: Haven and Hell
For the most part, the rest of the day passed without too much noteworthy in way of events. It finally stopped raining around noontime, but the sun never did make an appearance throughout the day before finally setting down over the horizon.
Kendra finishes her shift just as the sun is going down. Wet, cold and having had a fairly miserable morning, she could either return to her lover's home or go and face her family.
Haahque goes off to the local mage shop and inquires about some books. After doing what research he can, he tries visiting the Highseekers to get to their library, but they aren't having it and bar him entrance. He then starts to make his way back to the Tankard for his show.
Kynaston leads the barbarian back to his home, and helps set him up in his brother's old room. The barbarian promptly passes out and stays that way throughout the day, sleeping off the rum in his system.
Gregeddin and Coroccoco are free to spend their days however they like.
=========
It is now Twelfth Watch, sundown.
(OOC: Wasn't sure how Greg and Coco would spend their days, so I'll let their players fill in the blanks there.
I know that Horizon, Haahque, and NoTrammeling all had scenes they wanted to do, but I wasn't sure if Just_Ice and mgbevan had stuff they wanted to do, too. If not, they can just sit and wait for the next timeskip. If they want, though, they can go do...well, whatever they like in the meantime.)

Steel Tankard, Common Room
Having finished his research and realizing it was getting late, Haahqae returned to the Steel Tankard to do his nightly performance, a prerequisite of him getting free room and board. He arrived just as the sun was setting. The place was packed to the brim with locals, travelers and mostly refugees. The whole common room was actually a little hot, despite the autumn weather outside (the rain had stopped, but the temperature had dropped with the sun), due to all of the body heat from the many people inside.
Dinner was being served, and so the servers and barkeeper were quite busy trying to meet all of the demands of their customers. There was a small stage that was thankfully cleared where Haahqae had usually performed, and it was also for other performers that would crop up now and again.
Just after the gnome had entered, someone else came in right behind him. The newcomer was just a little over a foot taller, and his broad shoulders and beard suggested he was dwarven. Most dwarves who passed through here were dressed as merchants or craftsmen, but this one seemed dressed more like the refugees and this made it easier for him to blend in with the crowds.
Darga was actually one of the Aghar Clan--a gully dwarf--but he was very smart compared to his kin. Despite his shabby clothes, he didn't dig around in the trash for food like other Aghar, but actually had a pocket full of steel that allowed him to buy room and board when he wanted to--although how honestly he had acquired that steel in the first place was left to debate.

Kendra decides, after much debate with herself about how she really didn't want to see her family, that she will go see her family tonight, rather than doing it in the morning. Though, she takes her time as she makes her way through the streets to her home.

Coroccoco returns to Clover Park just after the group parts ways, spending her day in meditation and fast, attempting to commune with Weerschaal. She will wait there until sundown before leaving, hoping to catch her meeting.

Re: CH. 1: Haven and Hell
Darga makes his way through the crowd, picking his way through slowly so as to not disturb anyone he doesn't have to. Finally, he finds an unoccupied place to sit, sets his pack down beside his chair, and waits patiently for a serving lass (or lad). When it becomes apparent that they are ignoring him, he pulls a steel coin out of his boot and flips it into the air, catches it, and places it on the table before him. Keeping an eye on his coin, he looks around the room while he waits. It seems that a gnomish minstrel is preparing to perform--Darga smiles at his good fortune and waits in anticipation.
Re: CH. 1: Haven and Hell
The stage is smaller then he would like, but that's always the case with tumbling. Approaching the stage Haahqae slips off his backpack and quickly exchanges his armour for his gold and red entertainer's shirt. Pulling out his hat he pulls a strap under his chin to make sure it's well secured to his head. There's going to be some flips in this performance, and it's best to not have one's hat fall off at the most inopportune times. Haahqae had learned that lesson the hard way.
Today was still rather early in his performance cycle. Haahqae liked to go through a cycle wherever he was at, his performances slightly increasing in difficulty and flair each day until he was near his current ability, at which point he would leave the town and travel somewhere they hadn't seen him perform before, or at least not for a long time. This is how he judged how long he wanted to stay wherever he went, and it also afforded him plenty of time he didn't have to spend practicing at the beginning of his stay at each location.
Haahqae pulls out his three torches that he's practiced with and makes sure there is a bowl of water handy and the candle in a wall sconce is lit before stepping up on the stage.
"It is traditional to say a few words before a performance," Haahqae begins, "But I've never been great with words, so I'll keep this brief. First off, yes I am a gnome - for any of you that haven't seen one before, and secondly yes this is our traditional garb, we wear bright colours to distract us from our naturally drab an boring lives in our homeland." Haahqae pauses for a bit, he usually pauses here to build anticipation or to allow a bit of laughter or applause to die down. "The performance I have for you today does not have a name, for I'm mainly self taught or have picked up these tricks on the road from other entertainers I've come across. So without further adieu I hope you enjoy my performance and your stay at the Steel Tankard."
Haahqae starts juggling the torches, slowly at first, then increases the speed until the torches are spinning in a happy circle, slightly hard to see which torch is which. Then he begins to change it up, one torch he tosses behind his back and catches in front of him, then he tosses it back and forth between his hands directly, all while keeping the other two torches spinning in the original circle, apparently undisturbed by the change of course of the first torch. Finally he tosses one torch high and behind him, which he spins and catches, letting the other two torches fall. Placing the third torch down, he spins back towards his audience and does a front flip, which brings him to the front of the stage, then somersaults backwards, standing again in his original position. Bending over Haahqae then gathers the three torches with a spin, and lights them with the candle behind him. Then with flaming torches he repeats his opening act, except this time instead of letting to torches fall at the end, he catches them both before he spins, using those two torches to catch the third. Turning back to his audiance he bows to the front, then to the left, then to the right. On his third bow he douses the torches in the bowl of water that was prepared.

Kendra Synclair (2723 Crooked Road, Synclair Residence)
Kendra arrives home, still dressed in her armor Seeker uniform. Her parents' home wasn't in the safest neighborhood, especially after nightfall, so the extra protection is sometimes necessary.
The house was fairly small, especially for such a large family. There were no bedrooms, everyone slept in a single common area on blankets and straw. The place could get awfully cold at night, especially during the winter. There wasn't always money for firewood, but thankfully there was a small fire going this evening. The simple fact of the matter was, that the income for a simple Holy Guard was just not enough to take care of herself and her four family members.
Her father sits in a chair by the fireplace, his bad leg propped up on a small footstool. Ever since the accident, he has been unable to work, hence why all of the income for the family must come from Kendra. Her mother cooks dinner at the stove, having no marketable skills whatsoever and forced to stay home anyway to take care of the kids.
The children, Kendra's 6-year old brother and 3-year old sister, sit and play quietly with some blocks by the fireplace.
Coroccoco (Clover Park)
Coroccoco sits in meditation in the cold. It was getting colder and colder these days. It was only a matter of time before snow began to appear.
After awhile, the hobgoblin hears someone stepping on grass, approaching. "By the gods, it's freezing out here," Daxia mutters, her breath clearly visible. She is wearing a thick fur cloak, pulled around her for both warmth and to keep her face from being too visible. "You couldn't have chosen a warmer meeting spot?" she asks.
Haahqae and Darga (Steel Tankard Inn, Common Room)
Steel speaks louder than words. Setting the steel piece on the table was a smart move, because before long a waitress comes up to him. "What can I get you?" she asks, a bit distracted by the gnome's performance.
After Haahqae performs, several people toss some copper coins his way--travelers and locals, mostly. The refugees have no coin to spare for entertainment.

Kendra suppresses a groan as she looks over her father. ~He could still do something,~ she thinks to herself as she takes the time to remove her armor to make herself more comfortable. She walks over to the fireplace and musses up her brother, Tristan's hair, and her sister Jamie's hair. "Good evening, you two," she said cheerfully. As much as she resented her father and mother, she still loved her brother and sister dearly.

Darga gives the serving girl his best smile, showing his crooked and stained teeth. "Don't need much," he says. "Mebbe some of what's cooking that smells good, and some drink too." He waves a hand at the room around them. "Yer real busy tonight? Don't need to be fast fer me, just bring my food when you can." He frowns and considers the steel coin on the table. "Umm. This good enough?"
Re: CH. 1: Haven and Hell
After the group split ways, Gregeddin headed down to the market again. His morning browse and muse of the characters of the shop sellers had been disrupted by the Guard on more than one occasion and he was looking forward to seeing, bless them, old bags rattling against one another for every ounce or copper at the stalls.
His mood lifted greatly when he observed a lady shrieking the place down after a male vendor weighed grain in the sack rather than bare on the scales. Gregeddin knew from browsing the stalls that this fellow had the best prices, and from the exasperated look the vendor gave the lady, he knew this too and wasn't going to budge on his policy. For all the fuss and feathers the lady made she went awfully quick and quietly away with her grain; "How their tunes change..." Gregeddin passed to the vendor as he moved on.
Wandering the stalls, Gregeddin turned his thoughts to tomorrows plans, going out and exploring a mine. He had done some travelling, but only inn to inn. He couldn't help but feel slightly unprepared, at least in comparison to the company he was going with. "By Zeshun I carry torches for my incompetence!" Gregeddin thought, as he noted the stopping rain. Every piece of wood would be damp out there and I'm no survivalist at the best of times...
In the afternoon Gregeddin walked across to the Seven Centaurs, he orders food and pulls a chair right up next to the hearth, any closer and embers would risk stinging him. Eating in the afternoon he hoped to dry out, and passed time in the evening by plucking away light tunes on his Zheng. His secondary purpose for heading to the Centaurs was to let his parents know of his departure tomorrow, they would have deduced where he would be if there was a scrawled note left at the house, but the warmth and comforts of the inn made a personal visit more appealing, even if it was just to chat on the way home after their hours.
EDIT OOC (Could you remove remove the appropriate coin for food and a couple of drinks at the inn please)

Coco slowly raises her head to meet Daxia's eyes, breaking her trance she straightens herself from a sitting position though her muscles ache with cramp and cold. She luxuriates in the first stretch she's had in some hours, removing her hat shaking free her braid from its place coiled under her hat. Smiling down at the woman she takes a step closer, "My apologies Daxia Tch, but this place is far from the attention of any being save us. I have had a trying day."
"And my meditations have done little to gentle the waters of the mind." She snorts in a puff of white vapor. "I am here to hear if I may give my aid. You are here to seek it?"

Kendra Synclair (2723 Crooked Road, Synclair Residence)
"Hi, Kendra!" Tristan exclaims, giving a gap-toothed smile.
"Will you be staying for dinner?" her mother asks, stirring the stew on the stove. It appears to be made of whatever food was lying around the house, and there barely seems enough for everyone.
Coroccoco (Clover Park)
"I don't know," Daxia admits. "Maybe this is a mistake. Look, the truth is...there are people after me. Bad people. That's why I have to be careful about who I trust. I can never be sure if anyone I speak to is actually working for them, helping them track me down for the reward." She frowns. "I was supposed to meet someone here to help me, someone who was going to keep me hidden, but he never showed up. I fear the worse."
Haahqae and Darga (Steel Tankard Inn, Common Room)
"No problem," the server says, snatching up the coin, as if afraid he might change his mind. "I'll be right back."
She scurries off to the kitchen, and while Darga waits, he overhears two people nearby speaking--a man and a woman.
"Did he say he was a gnome?" asks the woman. "I thought they were just mythical, like dragons."
"I thought he was just some kind of dwarf," the man replies. "Wait, wasn't he the one looking for people to help clear demons out of a mine?"
"Yes, I think so. I wonder if he ever found anyone to take on such a crazy job?"
Gregeddin (Seven Centaurs, Common Room)
Gregeddin pays a couple of silver for a nice meal and some drinks before speaking with his parents.
=========
Gregeddin spends 2 silver pieces.
(OOC: I wasn't sure if you wanted to roleplay his meeting with his parents or was just giving a summary of how he spent his day. Hence the ambiguity.)

Re: CH. 1: Haven and Hell
Darga smiles thankfully at the serving girl, relieved that he had successfully guessed the correct amount of money needed for his meal. He waits patiently for her to return, but as he had guessed, the large amount of patrons has slowed down the service. Looking about, he sees that the gnome is packing up from his excellent performance, so he lets his eyes wander about the rest of the room.
As the man and woman at the next table seem to be confused at what kind of person the gnome minstrel is, Darga leans over to lend his expertise. "That un's a gnome fer sure," he says. "I've met a few out wandering. They don't come 'round here much, as ya say. What did ya say he was asking 'round about, again?" He smiles for a moment before his face falters as he realizes that he might be being obnoxious. He moves to back away, but changes his mind and leans close again; his curiosity about what they said about the gnome's intent currently stronger than his desire to not cause trouble that might get him thrown out of town.
(EDIT: adjusted the time of Darga's actions to after Haahque's performance.)
