CH. 7: Voyage of the Bullring

"But it won't allow to breathe underwater, or would it?"Ouragana asks. She bends down, is there any part of the dragon visible from the deck?

[Jenara]

"Just healing. That's all." Arei explains

[JadedDM]

Sierra shakes her head. "Nothing can be done now about it. If the dragon doesn't eat her, she can expect a chewing out!"

"No," Thaddeus says. "Potions of Flight do not convey waterbreathing; one would have to still hold their breath while under."

The dragon is only about 20 feet in length and 10 feet wide, while the ship itself is 100 feet in length and 30 feet in width. Thus, the dragon is completely hidden under the ship. The only way to see it would be to dive into the water.

[Breila]

"Well, Captain, Thaddeus, if anyone can make use of the potion of flying, it's yours." Ouragana offers.

[Nuke]

Val decides quickly, moving Mist with her knees, she directs her to the rearend of the beast and attacks.

She turns tail and runs, hoping the dragon follows her.

Sierra shakes her head to Ouragana. "I can't order anyone down there; it'd be a death sentence."

Meanwhile, riding Mist, Val couches her trident like a lance and strikes at the dragon, breaking through its scales and drawing blood. The orca attempts to bite at the dragon, as well, but it's dull teeth have trouble penetrating the scaly hide.

Val then directs Mist to move away. Her gambit seems to have paid off. The dragon, furious, releases the ship and turns toward the whale and half-orc angrily, ready to seek vengeance.

Val strikes at the dragon with her fine trident (+2) while blessed by Octhanus (+1) (1d20+3): 23, critical hit! for (6d4+2): 17 damage.
Mist bites at the dragon (1d20): 3, miss.
Black Dragon attacks the hull of the ship.
Jocelyn's Bless spell ends.

(OOC: Since that was a critical hit, I rolled an additional 3d4 and added it to Val's damage roll.)

Arei stands at the ready, not sure exactly what to do.

"She will do what she can."

[Nuke]

Val moves to surface, and tries to use the ship as cover, swimming around it in circles, hoping the dragon will return to the air.

Val steers Mist away, hoping to reach the surface and lure the dragon up there, too. But the dragon is quicker. It catches up to them before they can break the surface, and it slices into Mist with its claws, turning the surrounding water red with her blood. Luckily, the orca is able to evade the dragon's teeth. She and Val surface, but the dragon remains in the water, approaching the whale from beneath.

Black Dragon swims toward Mist and attacks with its right front claw (1d20): 8, hit for (1d6+3): 8 damage; then with its left claw (1d20): 7, hit for (1d6+3): 6 damage and then bites (1d20): 5, miss.
Val and Mist attempt to swim away, breaking the surface.

Ouragana clings to the rail, trying to see what happens to Val and Mist. When she sees the blood, she mutters. "Oh, I hope they don't pay to dearly for their daring. I've grown to rather like them."

Arei stands looking a little lost, "I guess we keep an eye out and shoot if we see it..."

"Mame?" She asks the Captain.

[HorizonsDream]

"You should go in there and help her," Jocelyn says to Areilon. "Otherwise that dragon is going to kill Mist."

[Breila]

"You can have my potion, so you can move in water like in air" Ouragana offers. "I would do it myself, but you know I can't fight at all."

[Nuke]

Val urges Mist to move even faster, taking evasive action, hoping their smaller size will allow them to avoid getting caught again.

[JadedDM]

Sierra joins Ouragana at the railing. "That orc is crazier than me," she comments. "If she can somehow defeat that dragon, she'll get a hell of a reward."

"And if she dies?" asks Terra.

"Then she'll get a funeral worthy of an admiral." She looks to the marines. "Keep your arrows ready, but don't fire unless the dragon surfaces. You'll just waste your ammo and you might hit the whale."

The dragon swims closer to Val and Mist, remaining under water, however, so nobody can shoot at it. Val spurs Mist further, out to sea, to keep a safe distance between them. Unfortunately, this seems to have created a stalemate. The dragon can't catch them, but refuses to surface and make itself a target.
