Re: Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?
Jim allowed Woody to move ahead of him to deal with the fungal barrier. Not knowing what to expect, Jim gave Woody his space and remained 10 feet behind him.
"I'm still here Woody. I think I may have spotted a pathway by the eastern wall that might lead into the fungus before you cast your light on your staff. I cannot see it now, but perhaps if you used your floating hand to move your light in that direction we could determine if I was correct or if it was just wishful thinking on my part. Whatever you intend to do I suggest you do it quickly. The longer that light is shining the more likely something will notice it."

Instead of touching the fungus with the mage hand, Woody will have the mage hand take the staff and move it to the direction indicated by Jim.
"Good call Jim."
"Good call Jim."

Sighing, Sue pulls out a dagger and throws it into the fungal wall.
Re: Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?
Still being forty feet* from the from the fungal mass, Woody uses his Mage Hand to pick up his glowing staff and move it ten feet closer to the barrier so that the first ten feet of fungus are dimly lit.
Jim stands ready, still fifty feet from the fungus. Sue, standing just behind Jim, starts to pull out a dagger.
At this point a screeching noise emanates from the direction of the fungal mass. It threatens to almost burst everyone's eardrums.
What next?
======
*It's fine is Woody wants to be closer right now; (just say how close and I'll edit it).
Using Mage Hand with the Light/staff makes the distance less crucial.

Sue continues to throw the dagger at the middle of the mass, away from his friends.

Jim will stay where he is, guard up with a dagger in one hand and his mace in the other, waiting patiently to see if a threat manifests.
OOC - I meant dart. not dagger

Woody pull back the staff with the mage hand and turns of the light.
"I think this fungus is alive. Jim lets change spots once again. I think we should target it with Frost or Fire at a distance. I can try the Firebolt and then the Ray of frost." "if thing go bad can use a flaming sphere at it."
"What do you think?"
