Re: Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?
Sue does not know which way to go.
Survival(Wis)(2): [1d20+2] = 6+2 = 8
"I'm a bit turned around. Little help?"

Survival(3): [1d20+3] = 2+3 = 5
Jim looks askew at Sue while trying to comprehend the subtle complexities that surely must exist that will bring this plan together. "I do not know. One direction will take us to the meet and the other will not." Jim proffers a coin "If nothing else let the fates decide?"

Looking round, it occurs to you that underground navigation might be tricky.
That thought sparks another - that going back to have a look at the city again would give you a clear idea as to which way is north.
Of course, flipping a coin is quicker. And might attract the attention of Tymora. Or Beshaba.

"Let me go back up and have a look at the road directions."
[1d20+2] = 14+2 = 16[1d20+2] = 11+2 = 13
[1d20+2] = 14+2 = 16[1d20+2] = 11+2 = 13
Re: Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?
Woody sees a young fellow, early teens, throwing tiny bits of metal and leather along the street against the alley wall.
It's Able.
Without turning round he says, "Lost already? Need help? Half a bell and thiry dragons and you can have a Stone of Direction."
======
Gaming or History skill check to know more about the bits of metal and leather. (Indicate which, please).
Stone of Direction is like a crude compass.

History check: [1d20+7] = 6+7 = 13
"Lost, no just want to make sure no one is following us." Woody remembers he as a polished gray stone that always points north. So he doesn't need to purchase a new stone from the boy.
"Giving the boy an electrum piece he says, you haven't seen us correct?" Winking at the boy.

Re: Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?
Woody has a vague recollection of a game called Jacks which is a rural game sometimes played with small bones of a sheep rather than the metal components.
Able's voice says, "Sure thing, Mister." He doesn't turn his head or give any indication of having seen Woody.
The coin remains on the ground until after Woody has gone.
Woody returns to Jim and Sue and then gets out his Stone of Direction.
Recalling that they probably want to head north, Woody is duly rewarded by the Stone pointing in the direction of one of the two passages level with the ledge. It is a dozen feet across and has its own sturdy vertical iron grating. Sludge drips intermittently from both of them into the slurry below. The 'plopping' sound echoes eerily.
The bars of the iron grating are two inches thick. It is set into the stonework to swing open on pivots when unlocked.
Not surprisingly, it is locked, but using a padlock and chain presumably as the integral lock is broken.

Sue will pull out his warhammer.
"Let's see if my streak against locks continues."
Sue will swing at the lock.
Warhammer - [1d20+5] = 17+5 = 22; Damage: [1d8+3] = 2+3 = 5
Warhammer - [1d20+5] = 15+5 = 20; Damage: [1d8+3] = 8+3 = 11
"Tougher than it looked!"

The locks bends and then explodes under the extraordinary force that is Sue Breadson.
After a slow count of twenty no noise of approaching creature from above or below is heard.
What next?

"Jim care to scout ahead? Bring us to the next set of tunnels that branch off."
"Woody, send him with a lit coin again please? Jim, keep it covered but use 1 flash to us for stop, two flashes or dropping it for us to come running."

As Woody is moving slow he will map the passages.

Assuming Woody and Sue travel together (and that Jim scouts as Sue requests), what distance will (on average) be kept between them and Jim?
Mapping is an action and, assuming normal terrain, if Woody is mapping he moves at Sp 30'. Jim would be aware of this.

With his new clanky armour Sue will make sure to stay minimum 50 feet back.
