Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
"It's OK" Ouragana says. "It was the only thing I could think of that might be useful. It's too bad I didn't memorise the Invisibility spell, then someone could go look into the room unseen. What I will try to do if the creature casts a spell is dispel it, but if it is truly as powerful as Kaakos says, that might not be possible."
When the plan is put into action, Ouragana will keep close to the lab door, so that she can either try do dispel magic the devil works or help with freeing the planetar and searching the lab.

"Great, I'll wait for youse in the vault," Kaakos says. He flies out to the big chessboard, turns into mist, and then seeps through the last hole.
Jocelyn, Brock, Ouragana and Thaddeus step out into the hall and walk over to the last door, the one with the diamond keyhole. Jocelyn holds the key to it in her hand.
Brock readies his axe. "Don't worry, Pastor. I won't let it come anywhere near you," he assures her.
"My, this is rather exciting, isn't it?" asks Thaddeus, readying his wand.

Val tags along, not convinced she can be of too much help, but doesn't want to die again, trying.

Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
Jocelyn takes the time to cast magical vestments on herself. "Everyone ready?" she asks.
Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
Dahn cast strength on Baeros. "Ready."
I don't blow minds, I blast brains.
Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
Ouragana adjusts her shawl. "Ready."
There's more to me than meets the eye...
Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
Feeling the surge of energy and the muscles pump up Baeros looks first at Jocelyn with a mischief smile and then at Dahn. "In the name of Crizza! I feel like a giant! I can crush stones! I'm ready!"
Before Kaakos exits the room Baeros whispers to Ouragana, "I saw you were debating with yourself if you want him as familiar.... Once the anchor will be destroyed he will teleport away and you will never see him again so this might be a good point to address the mater and he might help us in the battle. Hmmm and one more thing.... if you want it, try to handle it better than your declaration of love to Thaddeus." he grins. (OOC: Had to play the 5 CHA).

(OOC: I hope Baeros won't die on the first round. The contradiction between his confident and the result would be hilarious.)

"Might as well see if this thing helps," Drav says looking over to Baeros.

Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
Val, Granite, Baeros and Drav join the others in the hall to prepare for the fight.
Jocelyn prays to Octhanus to protect her from harm. Her sky blue robes begin to glow softly with power, gaining the same protection as if she were wearing chain mail. At the same time, Granite casts an empowering spell on Baeros, and the ranger's muscles bulge in size, causing his armor to creak a bit from the strain.
All that remains now is to open the diamond door.
==============
Jocelyn casts Magical Vestment on herself. Her vestments now have an AC of 5 for 30 rounds.
Granite casts Strength on Baeros, increasing his strength by (1d8): 8 points for 4 hours. Baeros now has a STR of 18/70, granting him +2 to hit and a +3 to damage. Baeros is no longer encumbered.

Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
Jocelyn uses her key to open the door to the diamond room. ~Octhanus, please let this work,~ she thinks to herself as she takes in the scene before her.
Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
Turning the key, Jocelyn hears the lock click and the trap disarm. Pushing it open reveals...total and complete darkness. Baeros' shining coin, however, helps illuminate the room.
The lab is almost completely trashed. There's a stone bookcase immediately to the right that has been knocked over and all the books shredded. The floor is littered with broken glass, likely the remains of beakers and vials. A couple of work desks on the right side of the room have been turned over. A long table to the left is covered in claw marks.
The strange thing, by far, are the chains. There are chains everywhere. They connect from floor to wall, wall to ceiling, and wall to wall. It's like walking into a giant spider's nest, but all of the webbing is made of chains.
In the very center of the room, on the floor, is a massive summoning symbol that has been smeared, ruining it. Behind it is a woman, chained to the wall. Her entire body is wrapped in chains, like a strange cocoon, squeezing her body. She doesn't stir; either she's dead or unconscious. Her skin is forest green and scarred and at her feet sit bloodied, torn wings with many of the feathers plucked out.
However, there is no sign of any devil in the room.

(OOC: Due to the jungle of chains, movement through the room is halved.)

Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
Jocelyn cautiously moves into the room wondering where the devil might be. ~He can't leave, so he has to be around here somewhere,~ she thinks to herself.
Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
Jocelyn steps fully into the room, looking around. The plug and the hammer are not readily visible from her vantage point. She is forced to step over and under chains, batting them away, to move. The chains rattle and clink together as a result. It's almost like walking through a jungle safari, but with no machete to cut through the numerous plants and vines in the way. Not that a machete would help any against steel chains.
Stepping up to the summoning circle, she can now see the chained up planetar better. She can see that the angel's wounds are slowly beginning to heal.
Brock attempts to follow Jocelyn into the room, hindered by his limp even more than normal due to the chains. "Where the devil did all these chains come from?" he asks in frustration.

Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
Baeros follows a step behind Jocelyn. "Be careful. You need to be able to run away after you do your thing. He is probably invisible and watching us. Try to look for movement of the chains or the feathers." Baeros quickly scans the room looking also up. "There goes the element of surprise." he rumbles. "Val! If you wear the coat I gave you before you might be able to smell him!" he calls back.
Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
Ouragana had stared blankly when Bearos talked to her. Stone-faced, she asks him: "Do you really think I would want to tie a demon to me?"
When Jocelyn and Brock walk into the laboratory, she follows and stands at the wall next to the bookcase. She casts a cantrip to detect the magic in the room.
