Baeros wrote:"Wait! How many of you failed searching the second floor? And what was the largest group size?"
"I do not have a historic record of how many Oni have died up there in the past 350 years," he replies. "It matters not. You will survive or you will not. Will this knowledge help in any way?"
Baeros wrote:"Tell me one thing! Are you ogres?"
"We are Oni," he replies simply, then closes the door behind him, leaving the party alone.

Val struggles to keep up. She is not quite sure if she is up to this, but it doesn't look as if she has any choice but to continue.
She fishes out her potion of healing, holding it up to the group. "Is this all of the healing we have left?" she asks.

She walks over to Val, places her hand on her shoulder, and prays over her. "You can either save it for later or give it to someone that needs it. I don't have anymore cure prayers on me after this," she admits. She then uses her lay on hands ability on Val as well.

After the oni have left, Ouragana turns to Bearos. "I don't think our strogest fighters should go first" she says. "Is there anyone in the group who knows how to find and disarm traps? I certainly don't. All I could do is see what is magical, and that would probably be just about everything, and wouldn't show mechanical traps either."

"If someone can disarm traps by all means, go first, but otherwise I think I should go first to protect you, so just keep far behind me if it comes to that." Then a thought hits him, "Do you think we can disarm traps by shooting arrows at the door locks?"

Jocelyn pours most of her remaining healing into Val, and the result is staggering. The half-orc's wounds from the trolls are completely healed, as is most of the burns from the fire trap. Sadly, the spell she spends on Granite seems to have little effect on him.
==========
Jocelyn casts Cure Moderate Wounds on Val, restoring (1d10+1): 3+1 = 4 HP.
Jocelyn casts Cure Moderate Wounds on Val, restoring (1d10+1): 5+1 = 6 HP.
Jocelyn uses Lay on Hands on Val, restoring 10 HP. Val improves from near death (10% HP) to lightly wounded (90% HP).
Jocelyn casts Cure Light Wounds on Granite, restoring (1d8): 1 HP.
(OOC: Just a heads up, but Cure Moderate Wounds heals 1d10+1, not 1d10+2.)

"I will attempt again to trap anything that comes at us with my magic web, but of course it deosn't have an effect on things that breathe fire" Ouragana observes drily.
She keeps her bright silver piece handy, too. It could serve to blind a creature used to living in the dark.

"I can remove traps, some at least." Gallath says.

"Then you should go first, Gallath, with Bearos. I'll come up next, at least until I have used up my spells" Ouragana suggests.

"I also have some ability to handle traps, though I'm no pro at it." Dahn says.
"Oh, Thaddeus, come here," he adds,"We need you to stay alive, so I'll cast an invisibility spell on you."
"I've been a bit carless recently, so I think I'll be playing it safe for a while as well."
Dahn casts invisibility on Thaddeus, and then on himself.

"Thank you," Thaddeus says to Granite as he fades away from sight.
With that settled, the party begins the ascent up the stone stairs to the second floor. The stairs bring them to an almost identical room as the one below it, but with a few key differences. First, there is still furniture here. It's falling to pieces, covered in thick layers of dust, and rather bad smelling. There are some broken pots, some old bookshelves (mostly rotted wood) with no books, the tattered remains of tapestries on the walls and some boarded up windows that would otherwise give a nice view of behind the mansion.
To the south is another set of double doors. Aside from going back the way they came, it's the only way to go.

Granite casts Invisibility on himself.

"Thank you Joselyn, I feel much better. I will hold the potion, just in case." Val says.
I will hold the rear guard until it is time to fight.

"All right, everyone please be careful. Those of you that can disarm traps keep your eyes open," Jocelyn says.

"Err... how can we make sure Thaddeus and Granite are with us and not harmed if they are... hmm... transparent?" Baeros asks.
