CH 1: You All Meet in a Tavern

[Breila]

"If we subdue the cat, maybe the birdman will talk to us..." Ouragana starts to think aloud, but her wispy voice is lost in the growl of the cat. Having no ranged weapon and no offensive spell, she tries to find some cover in the bushes, taking care not to tread on a snake or something.

[Jenara]

"Can you make fire?" Arei asks the Storm Sorcerer, her eyes on the cat, turning around she had gone.

[Breila]

"Just the normal way, so it takes a few minutes" Ouragana answers Arei. "Shall I?"

(Assuming that getting a fire going in dry conditions with flint and steel does not require the "fire building" skill. Flint and steel she has.)

[Jenara]

"Do it, I think fire scares these things, doesn't it?" She asks, unsure herself.

(OOC: Anyone can make a fire with flint and steel, yep. The Fire-building proficiency is for making a fire without it, actually.)

[Breila]

"It generally does" Ouragana agrees and begins to make a small fire on the path several yards behind the fighting creatures, lighting a few branches she and Arei can use to scare the jaguar away.

[Jenara]

"Thank you." Arei says taking a branch, holding it in her off hand. "Val, cover the birdman. Shoot if you have to, just to take it down. Grey.." she looks around, "I hope he doesn't do anything foolish."

Dahn waits and observes from cover, ready to add his own 'fire' if necessary.

[Nuke]

Val nocks an arrow and takes aim at the birdman's other wing.

"The cat will run when he sees us." She says before shooting again.

Dahn quietly begins sneaking his way toward the battle, drawing a pair of daggers. As he approaches, he accidentally steps on a dry twig, which snaps audibly. The jaguar's ears twitch, and the large cat spares a quick glance over her shoulder. She is now aware of the party's presence and growls menacingly.

Meanwhile, Ouragana removes her flint and steel and sets to work lighting a small, dried-up bush on fire. Areilon quickly snaps off a branch to wield as a firebrand.

Swinging her sling overhead, Jocely lets loose a stone at the big cat, but her aim is horrific. It flies off behind her instead. Luckily, nobody is behind her, so it hits nobody. "Oops!"

The birdman screeches and stabs with his javelin, but the cagey jaguar leaps aside, avoiding the blow at the last second. The jaguar then counters by swiping both paws at her prey. The birdman easily evades, showing incredibly agility despite his wound. However, the jaguar is persistent and manages to sink its claws into the birdman's right leg. The birdman squawks and slaps the cat with his javelin until she lets go. He won't last much longer at this rate.

Val then steps forward, nocking an arrow and letting it fly. The breeze knocks the arrow aside, though. Determined, she draws another arrow. This one flies perfectly, but the nimble birdman leaps aside at the last second. He then begins squawking in protest at the half-orc.

"Stop! You'll hurt him!" Jocelyn cries at Val.

Val moves 30 feet closer and then fires a sheaf arrow from her long bow at the male (+1) birdman (1d20+1): 5, miss.
Val fires another sheaf arrow from her long bow at the male (+1) birdman (1d20+1): 15, miss.

Ouragana picks up the rest of the bush and tears another firebrand off, offering it to Jocelyn. "Here, let's scare the jaguar away!" She then continues in a quick trot towards the big cat, hoping it really will run off. She will make the last approach more carefully though.

[Jenara]

"Val, lets approach with caution." Arei urges the warrior, "Leave the Birdman."

Stick in hand along with her blade Arei approaches the cat, firebrand flashing before her. "We mean you no harm, if you mean none to us!" She shouts clearly in common at the Birdman.

(ooc: it gets me every time you say val, when I play with my irl friends, most of my characters' names begin with val.)
Dahn will throw his daggers at the Jaguar. (If the jaguar is too far away, he will wait for it to get into range, if it doesn't, well, he'll just kinda stand there looking like an idiot.)

[Nuke]

Val approaches the pair, making eye contact with the big cat. Waving her hands and talking in a smooth voice, she attempts to shoo the cat away.

"Big boy, too much trouble here, come on, go away, leave us alone."

Ouragana and Areilon cautiously approach the jaguar, each holding a flaming branch. But the jaguar doesn't pay them any mind, instead remaining focused on her prey.

Val moves closer in an attempt to 'shoo' the 200 pound, six foot long cat away. Not only does she fail to be intimidated, she turns and roars in warning at the half-orc.

The birdman uses this opportunity to strike, but the jaguar evades the javelin easily, then turns back to face him.

Dahn throws a dagger and Jocelyn slings a stone. But both miss the cat. Meanwhile, the jaguar swipes at the birdman, clawing him across the chest, causing him to squawk in protest. The birdman is in pretty bad shape now, but manages to stay on his feet and hold his ground.

Dahn readies his second dagger, and winds up his arm to throw it. However, he accidentally lets go of it, and the dagger flies backwards instead, cutting into Jocelyn instead. "Hey! Watch it!" she cries out, looking down at her cut leg and damaged robes.
