CH. 16 - Resistance

"A trap? I agree," says William. "But I see little choice but to proceed. If we stand around and wait too long, sooner or later a patrol will happen upon us or an alarm will sound."

(OOC: Correct, Tulbas is immune to all level 1 illusions, whether audible or visual.)

Kendra (Hidden Room, Sewers)
Sadron stares at Kendra, but doesn't answer right away. It's clear he's trying to work out what's happening, as Kendra already knows what the rebels are planning. "You have already killed me twice," he says.

"So let's give the invisible Gnome a moment to do his stuff and then storm in." Tulbas nods.

(OOC: So just to clarify, Tulbas doesn't suspect anything wrong about the noises, right? Maybe it is Haaque snoring...
Can you please remind me how long is one round and one turn when in battle and when not in battle? Is it 1m/10m in battle and 10m/1h not in battle or is it just round = round in battle and 1m when not in battle and turn is 10r in battle and 10m not in battle? Thanks.)

Kendra's brow furrows for a few seconds before it dawns on her what Sadron means. Every fiber in her being wants to apologize and beg for forgiveness, but she can't do that. "...And yet you stand before me again," she finally says as she uses the blade to draw some blood along his collarbone. "The choice is yours." She knows she is being vague, but she isn't sure how to convey that she wants him to pretend to escape so she can give him a mercy kill. Being killed by her is better than whatever the church will do to him.

Haahqae doesn't see anything nearly as suspicious as he had suspected as the spider crawled around in the room; so he silently creeps into the room himself.

(Move silently; going directly north (but through the doorway where required) until he's beside the bed.)

Haahqae, Tulbas and Gobax (Prefect's Mansion)
Invisible and quiet, Haahqae sneaks into the room a bit, looking around. There is still no sign of anything being amiss.

(OOC: Tulbas does not suspect anything from the noises, no. And a round is 1 minute long, regardless of whether the party is in battle or not. A turn is 10 rounds, or 10 minutes, long.)

Kendra (Hidden Room, Sewers)
Sadron just chuckles darkly. "My life is forfeit either way. But it doesn't matter. You're already too late."

Magnus frowns darkly. "What does he mean by that? Too late for what?"

[Haahque]

With nothing going wrong so far; Haahqae observes the figure on the bed and takes careful aim; holding up his rapier for a precise blow on the man's spine.

Then; as soon as the blow connects; Haahqae drops and rolls under the bed.

(Action: Backstab prefect with rapier, hide under bed)

Tulbas peers into the room anxiously even that Haaque is invisible. "The tension before the battle..." he grins nervously at William. "So, we never introduced ourselves properly, and will probably die soon. I'm Tulbas. Originally from Ovulani that was destroyed by the Red Army. In the last few years a citizen of Haven, lived with my uncle Raetmal that was robbed and murdered by Magnus, my current mentor. Where are you from? What made you choose Haven for your rebellion?"

Kendra looks to Magus and shrugs her shoulders. "What do you mean?" she asks, Sadron.

Haahqae readies Yvette's rapier awkwardly. He has no training in this weapon, but hopefully that wouldn't matter against a helpless foe.

He makes the strike, slamming the point of the blade into the sleeping figure, through the covers. At once, two things happen simultaneously. First, Haahqae's invisibility ends. Second, the snoring sound abruptly ends and there's a strange crackling sound instead that persists a few seconds, then abruptly stops. Haahqae dives under the bed a moment later.

Kendra (Hidden Room, Sewers)
Sadron says nothing. Growing angry, Magnus commands, "Speak!" He rips open the elf's shirt, revealing his chest, and places the fingers of his right hand there, while chanting. Suddenly, Sadron begins screaming in agony. The spots where Magnus' fingers touch seem to hiss with steam, as if they were extremely hot. When Magnus removes his hand, each finger leaves behind a blackened wound.

"Not what you have expected..." Tulbas says quietly. He looks into the room for a moment and if nothing happens he would whisper from the corridor loud enough for the Gnome to hear, "Haaque, remove the bed covers.."

Kendra takes a step back away from Sadron as Magus does his thing. "He said it was all ready too late," Kendra says. "Would they be bold enough to outright attack the prefect?" she asks.

[Haahque]

Haahqae; after finding his bearings and realizing that nothing has exploded yet, hear's Tulbas's voice stretching towards him from across the room.

Despite his track record; not all of Tulbas's plans are bad and this one sounds on the more reasonable end of things; so Haahqae reaches up a hand and tugs on the blanket until it comes tumbling off the bed and reveals what lies underneath.

Crawling out from under the bed, Haahqae grabs the blanket and throws it off to reveal...a statue. Or rather, the petrified corpse of a baaz. That must have been the source of the crackling sound--his flesh turning to stone upon death.

Immediately after, the two doors up north both open at once, and four more baaz emerge from each door. The prefect himself then steps out of the door on the left after them. "Well, well, after all that time and effort on trying to find the resistance, and you all come to me, instead. Throw down your weapons and surrender and I may consider letting you live and shipping you off to the mines instead of a very public execution instead."

Kendra (Hidden Room, Sewers)
"Attack the prefect? Are they mad?" Magnus asks rhetorically. But after a moment of thought, he smiles to himself. "Good. In all likelihood they will not only fail, they will be utterly destroyed in the process, and thus no longer any kind of problem. But...in the extremely unlikely event they actually succeed? Not only will they still be destroyed, but the power vacuum could serve me well. Assuming the priestess doesn't act first." He thinks a bit more, then looks to Kendra. "And who will you put your loyalties in? The prefect? The high priestess? Or myself?"

Tulbas sneaks a step left to be hidden by the wall and casts 'Spectral Hand' on himself whispering:

'Ghostly extension of my will,
Can transfer fire or chill,
Will overcome distance across,
And strike with spectacular force.'

[Haahque]

From his hiding spot; Haahqae makes sure the now discarded blanket at least mostly obscures him from the new arrivals and takes another drink of the invisibility potion. He's running extremely low on it; but it's better to be broke then to be broken as the old troubadour saying goes.

When invisible; Haaqae wants to cast spider climb and climb out the south side of the bed.

(Is this a bed with a tall frame/curtain around it? How tall is the room? how does the ceiling look? Any torches on the wall?)
