CH. 17: Poison Curse

"Better that we keep your magic a secret for now," Sable replies to Ouragana. "It will arouse less suspicion and in any case, the ship already has a sorceress. If you know anything about sailing, we can find a use for you. If not, well, the deck always needs swabbing." She places the shackles on Jocelyn's wrists.

When Gallath reveals himself, all color drains from her face. She steps back, wearing an expression of horror. "You! What are you doing here?"

Not fully understanding what is happening, but sensing something is wrong, the gnolls raise their guns again, taking aim. "No, keep them down!" she urges the others, who obey reluctantly. Calming herself down a bit, she says, "What do you think you're going to accomplish here, Gallath? This isn't what Arya would want."

(OOC: Anyone with the Seamanship proficiency can work as a sailor, regardless of strength.)

Val and Naras (Ixitxachitl Lair/Sardonx 12th, 1 PM)
Cye continues fighting with the shaman, and gets bitten again. The ensnared shaman cannot move or attack, but it can still cast. It tries to put some kind of spell on Cye, but the druid shrugs it off easily.

Cye and Serenna begin arguing about something. Val cannot understand what, but when they are done, Serenna swims to Naras and starts binding her wounds.

Val moves to attack the first shaman. She stabs it twice in succession, ending its life. These things aren't nearly as difficult with the potion flowing through her veins. With the creature's death, all that remains is the ensnared shaman, who isn't much of a threat now.

Ixitxachitl 01 bites at Cye [TN 12] (1d20): 16, hit for (3d4): 1,2,2 = 5 damage. Cye is now seriously wounded.
Ixitxachitl 02 casts Cause Fear on Cye. Cye saves vs. spell [TN 14] (1d20): 17, pass.
Serenna swims to Naras and stabilizes her.
Cye stabs at Ixitxachitl 01 with his javelin [TN 12] (1d20): 4, miss.
Val swims to Ixitxachitl 01 and stabs at it with her trident of the hunter (+2 hit/dmg) with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) while super heroic (+4 hit) [TN 9] (1d20+7): 13+7 = 20, hit for (1d6+5): 3+5 = 8 damage. Ixitxachitl 01 is now seriously wounded.
Val stabs at Ixitxachitl 01 with her trident of the hunter (+2 hit/dmg) with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) while super heroic (+4 hit) [TN 9] (1d20+7): 6+7 = 13, hit for (1d6+5): 5+5 = 10 damage. Ixitxachitl 01 dies.

Jocelyn looks between Sable and Gallath with wide eyes. "What...is going on, exactly?"

Ouragna was going to declare that she would need to find some clean, used clothes then, but she stops short because of the action between Gallath and Sable and watches.

Sable frowns. "Is this really the time to be discussing it? I did what I had to. And the world is better off for it. Accept the truth of this and move on, as I have."

Val and Naras (Ixitxachitl Lair/Sardonx 12th, 1 PM)
After patching the unconscious dwarf's wounds, Serenna and Cye swim up to the ensnared ixitxachitl and begin arguing in their language over it. Val cannot understand it at all.

(OOC: Naras is at -6 HP and therefore still unconscious.)

Val swims to the last foe and stabs.....

"The world is better off without our village? Without our families? Why?" he challenges her. "Why did you do it?"

Sable sighs. "Because they were demon worshipers, Gallath. Your parents, and mine, and a number of the others including all of the town elders were part of a cult. The village itself was just a front to hide their rituals, and most of the villagers were in on it."

"Wait, people actually worship demons?" asks Naishe, puzzled.

Val and Naras (Ixitxachitl Lair/Sardonx 12th, 1 PM)
Val stabs the ensnared ixitxachitl several times, until it stops moving. This also seems to end the argument between the undine siblings. They instead turn their attention to the unconscious undine tied to the altar. They start untying her. She looks older, twice their age, with white hair and silver scales.

Val starts to look around and goes to Naras' side, checking her condition.

Jocelyn continues to look between Gallath and Sable. "You killed a whole village because they worshiped demons?" she asks. "Did they sacrifice people?" she asks. "Did they actually summon demons?"

Gallath stares at her. "What?" he demands. "How did you know this? And you never told me?"

"I know because they were training me to become a new priestess, although I didn't realize it at first," Sable explains. "The demons our village worshiped wanted into our world. But they wanted a way to infiltrate it without detection. People notice flaming red beasts with horns and wings. So they developed a ritual that would allow people to implant demons inside living people. Like parasites, living off of hosts. And the host usually doesn't even realize it. They would 'incubate' inside the hosts, slowly taking over their bodies and minds. When I found out the truth, it was during your sister's implanting ritual. I was horrified and aghast at what I saw. I wasn't able to stop the implantation, but I did manage to active the demon inside of her. She transformed and went berserk."

She puts her hands on her hips. "So that demon you fought, the one you half-blinded...it was actually Arya. After she turned back to normal, I spirited her away somewhere safe. She blacks out sometimes, becomes the demon again. She has no memory of it, so I have to keep her somewhere isolated and away from people to avoid more attacks. At least until I can find a way to extract the demon from her entirely."

Val and Naras (Ixitxachitl Lair/Sardonx 12th, 1 PM)
While the undine tend to the woman strapped to the altar, Val swims back to Naras. She's badly beat up and unconscious. But she does have a pulse, albeit a weak one. It may take a few days for her to wake up without any magical healing, however.

"I.... Arya...." his hands go to the red streaked hair. "Why didn't they implant me? And Arya... does she have a scar? About... here?" he points to where Thrax slashed the demon way back.

Val decides there is nothing else she can do at this point and begins to investigate the chamber.

Jocelyn's mouth drops open a bit upon hearing the story. "Uh, well, if I survive this, maybe we can try to help his sister?" She wasn't sure how to help just yet, but she knew a priest was probably going to be needed.
