The hemp rope continues to play out into the darkness below.
The tavern's inhabitants continue their enthusiastic rendition of 'Down the Well', now into its third verse.

Sure. Nix says distractedly as he watches the descent. He tenses up when the rope wobbles part-way down

Nix sees the wobbles remain but not appear to get any worse as the rope continues to play out*.

*Total descent time is actually 5 rounds.

The rope stops playing out and then, after a short pause, the well's bell rings.
The pair of nobles start to winch the bucket up at a faster rate than it was lowered.

The bucket arrives at the top of the well and is pulled up and steadied beside the waist-high granite wall that surrounds the yawning orifice.

Evenwood reaches into this pouch, pull out a vial and drinks it. The then climbs into the bucket and sits down.

The asks Nix, "how did you met Alecia? What has driven you both to join this adventure?"

Nix climbs in and then waits while Evenwood finishes having a drink.
The latter then climbs in beside Nix who, anxious to get on the move, is nearly pitched out of the bucket when Evenwood tries to squat down in the bucket.
The two nobles manage to steady both Nix and the bucket.
It takes a slow count to twenty before all is stable and the bucket is ready to descend with both Evenwood and Nix standing.

There is a raised female voice wafts up from far below but the words are indistinct. The bucket lurches into motion.

======
No one's passive Perception is high enough but people can strain their ears to hear the words if they wish:
  • Perception (WIS)
    DC 25 (straight roll)
Those in the bucket, DC is 20 but this is with disadvantage.

ooc - why not, I might roll a 20 eh?
Perception(wis3)(pro2): [1d20+5] = 17+5 = 22
ooc - so close....

As Nix peers through the obscuring light from the dozen or more torches affixed to the granite wall surrounding the well he just catches what he thinks is a glimpse of light moving below. Perhaps something is afoot?

We met a long time ago... he says distractedly, still peering below. Once they are being lowered out of earshot of the others he speaks further but very quietly. Long, long ago... we are here only as a means to an end... but i am already beginning to regret coming. From the tiefling's silver-eyed countenance, evenwood can probably tell his concern is for those below, not for himself. What about you? he asks, offhandedly.

===
If Nix sees danger to his allies below in the form of enemies (as he is lowered) he will fire eldritch blasts at those threatening his friends (range 120 feet. Nix' darkvision is 60 feet, but if there is a light at the bottom I imagine he'd be able to see it in the darkness beyond 60 feet)

nix perception disadvantage [1d20+2] = 6+2 = 8[1d20+2] = 3+2 = 5
yep... getting those bad rolls out of the way now before the fighting starts...

The rope plays are at a fairly sedate pace. It's going to take a while {2 rounds} for the bucket to drop into the blackness.
If either of the passesngers wishes he can call on the winchmen to speed up. {Would drop the bucket & contents into the darkness in 1 round.}
