Harbour Moon - 50 Dragons

1 GP per person to go down, 1GP per person to come up.

Ill have to reread the wagers.

Basically 2GP for whomever returns at 3PM(2h hrs from now)(Taol)

Or

We send a representative back with a map, and we get a pay day per room.

With other bets to be determined in a minute?

The Waterdavian copper coin is called a "neb".
The Waterdavian electrum coin is called a "sambat".
The taol is a square piece of brass, worth 2 dragons in the city but virtually worthless to anyone not trading with Waterdeep.
There is also the Habour Moon, a palm-sized piece of platinum inset with electrum, which is worth 50 dragons in Waterdeep, only 30 dragons elsewhere.
Both taols and Habour Moons are pierced to enable the bearer to string multiple coins together.

2 gold cost to go down, 2 gold opst to come up, and the bet is 2 gold per survivor? so we'd only break even? something's not right

Wasnt it 1 to go down and back up? Still if we make it we get 2, so we break even.

I assume they consider finding things while we are down there.

The inn charges 1 dragon (GP) per head going down and the same per head coming up.

This is nothing to do with the group of four young but already jaded (and rather rich) nobles.
While the money means little to them, their reputation does, so while they theoreticaly could pay a fortune for their entertainment, they would be unwilling to suffer the loss to their reputation (as an easy touch).

Currently the 4 have offered an incentive:
a) a taol (2GP) per head returning alive after 24h. (Probably still ok a few hours after that but much more and 'all bets are off'.) The barmaid is indicating they'd probably pay twice this if pushed.
b) a sambat (electrum piece) for a map of one room, doubling to a dragon (GP) for 2 rooms, doubling to a taol (2GP)for 3 rooms, and doubling thereafter. The map needs to be in the hands of one of the live party members returning as per (a) above. The barmaid is indicating they'd probably pay twice this if pushed.
c) Side bets are on top and have yet to be discussed. {For 9a) & 9b) the group are essentially wagering their lives.]

As an aside, if someone (in private thread) wants to try a history check, DC 22, then they will recall a little story about the Yawning Portal's well. (This is mostly flavour.)

So your basic pay to play
a) Adventuring fools - pay inn, risk life, hope to profit
b) Bored rich brats - entice (a) to occur, play whatever merry havoc that can be had, hope to be entertained

Essentially we have all the negotiating power with the rich young nobles as long as we realize that we are negotiating a trade of money for the chance to be entertained. ie entice us with enough money that we actually go down the damn hole...

Now if only Sue understood that....

Or maybe the nobles have leverage too as it's the newly formed group that want money.
