I am working as a civil/site design engineer for a consulting firm. It's a full-service firm, which takes a site from concept through design and permitting and construction and even through the post-construction certifications.
It's a small firm right now, but it's growing, and we've got really a good team - smart, creative people with a lot of experience.

Stik, on 9/23/10 wrote:Apologies, all, for my absence. I have had a busy two days.

Running Wilde is a new sitcom on Fox. The premiere was on Tuesday night. They film at Sands Point Preserve, where I do my medieval fair. The producers have made lemons into lemonade and worked a medieval fair theme into one of the upcoming episodes (which will air in November), and they asked the members of our group if we would work as extras in the show.

So, I've spent the past two days at Sands Point, working with our jousting team on Tuesday and working on camera as a costumed extra for the show all day yesterday. It was my first brush with show business (apart from doing the fair all these years) and I have to say that apart from having to be there before dawn (I had a 6:30 call time) and all the waiting around while they moved cameras and such, it was an enjoyable experience. I got to meet pretty much the whole cast of the show, other than the male lead, and also spent time with the guys from Medieval Times, who were hired to do stunts.

The episode airs in November, and if you watch, look in the background for a tall, dark-haired guy in a burgundy houpeland with big sleeves. That'll be me.

You may recall the post above from back in September. The episode of Running Wilde that my friends and I worked in is airing on November 9 on Fox (check local listings for time, but it's on at 9:30 here in NY).

Keep an eye out for this guy (the one on the left in burgundy)in the background during the wedding scene and during the jousting scene.

Two twelve-hour days in a row at the office, plus the wife's car broke down and stranded her last night to add to the fun.
I'll try to post tomorrow to keep us moving.
Sorry for the delay.

Just a quick roll call, seeing as I've been absent a lot these past few days.
It's been busy at work (hurray!) and busy with the Kingdom of Acre as well, leaving me with very little free time.
And on top of that, my wife has been doing the last of our Christmas shopping online, thus tying up the PC.

So, as we continue, I believe we have Jenara (Angel), Ish (Bastian), Tempest (Elias) and Jaded (Daos) on board.

Frivolous is taking a break from this game and will hopefully return soon.

Bryant (Brusen) has dropped off the face of the Oerth, apparently. Nobody has seen him for two months.

So, check in, please and also chime in if you think we could use another PC in the mix. There are some folks on a waiting list, but I wanted the game to stabilize before I brought anyone else aboard.

If I don't speak to you before that, happy xmas and hope you all have a great new year!

We went to visit my wife's family in Boston for Christmas. It's about a 250-mile drive one way.

We left Boston headed for Long Island at 4:00 PM and were making pretty good time, despite the snow, until about 11:15 PM. With about sixty miles left in the trip, we stopped dead in traffic and didn't move again for over six hours. We spent the time sitting with the engine turned off watching snow pile up on the hood and windshield and waiting for the traffic ahead of us to clear. There apparently was a big accident on the highway ahead of us. So my wife and I spent the whole night trying to keep warm with outside temperatures in the low twenties and fifty mile wind gusts shaking the SUV and coating it with snow.

At about 5:30 AM a state trooper on an ATV pulled up to my window and said: "Four-wheel drive, right? Accident's been cleared. Go for it. Just push through."

So I slalomed through about the next two miles, driving on maybe eight inches of unplowed snow and dodging stuck cars, until I reached the point where the snow plows had been able to access the highway and we were able to continue our trip at something approaching a normal driving speed. Although the roads had been plowed, the snow had been coming down too hard for the plows to keep up, so the roads were still covered with snow - no visible pavement except small patches here and there. Best speed for the rest of the trip was about 35 mph.

The trip home took us sixteen and a half hours.

Oh, and my job and my wife's job both declared a snow day on Monday. We could have stayed in Boston an extra day and drove home after the storm was over.

I hate winter already, and it's still December.

Tell me about it.. Last week or so the hour journey from my place to my mum's took six and a half. We were moving most of the time at a crawl. But it was a nightmare. Yet nothing like yours.

By the way, you folks have shown tremendous restraint in the matter of the rock throwers. Parts of this adventure were transplanted directly from my tabletop game. One of my tabletop players immediately returned fire, the consequences of which action which took the remainder of the evening's session to resolve.

Angel is rather passive, she can see attacking them would only attract unwanted attention to them.

As for the main site there have been issues with it. But what Tempest needs it someone who can remove him from the spam filter block list. Ie me or Cole. Shall arrange that as fast as possible!
