Re: CH. 7: Voyage of the Bullring
Val reports to the bombard deck looking for the man in charge.
"Battlemaster Riddlemark I think." Val says looking the man in the eye.
"Captain told me to report." Val stands awaiting a response. "Val Urgan reporting."
Standing in her hide armor and holding her trident she awaits instructions.

Thaddeus' Quarters
Thaddeus gingerly accepts the orb from Ouragana and takes it back to his desk. "Interesting," he mutters. "Now that it's started, through trial and error, it may be possible to open it up entirely. Excellent work, indeed."
The Rigging
"Javos," the half-elf replies with a nod. "I figured, I haven't seen you before. There aren't many of elven blood on this ship, so we tend to stand out. You one of the 'criminals' that we supposedly took on?"
The Galley
Noah sighs. "I'd rather be at home right now," he mutters. "I became a pastor so I wouldn't have to do this kind of thing anymore--traveling all over the place and what have you. I can't wait for us to return to Serenity City and get this all over with."
The Bombard Deck
The man in charge, as it turns out, is a rather old but barrel-chested dwarf. He has grey hair and a well-trimmed and braided beard and one good grey eye--the other behind a black patch. "Aye," he says, eying Val intensely with his good eye. "Tomori Riddlemark be my name. Wasn't expecting an orc of all things." He steps around her, inspecting her from all sides. "One of mixed blood, if'n I'm right. And I always be; at least about such things."
He snorts. "Urgan, you say? Not familiar with that clan, I don't think. Killed me so many orcs in me youth, though--hard to keep them all straight at times. In any case, you be knowin' how to fight on a ship? Ever repel boarders--or are you more the kind to be doin' the boardin'?"

"If you call stopping a murderer and saving a town a criminal act, then yes, that's me." She grins, "You in charge up here?" Balancing with practiced ease she looks down, surveying the rigging. "I guess you have a good crew already, I always wanted to sail a ship like this."

Re: CH. 7: Voyage of the Bullring
Ouragana blushes slightly, giving her usually pale cheeks a lovely pink colour. "Thank you. I try to be helpful. And I have something to show you, too."
She draws out the wand of magic missiles. "This was given to me in my last adventure. It releases magic missiles. I must admit I never studied battle magic, I thought I would not need it when working on a ship. I realised I was very wrong, and I plan to study it when I get the chance. Do you know if this wand could be recharged?"
(OOC: I have read up the DMG about recharging, but I guess Ouragana would not know that.)

"Traveling all over the world isn't so bad," Jocelyn admits. "Things are constantly changing, there are new things to see and do, and you meet some interesting people along the way," she explains. "Though, you never really had much of a sense of adventure."
Re: CH. 7: Voyage of the Bullring
Val stands there silent, not impressed with the little man, nor his mouth. She waits while he performs his inspection, confident in her stature.
"I can fight on a ship, but do most of it in the water." "This" holding her trident, "And this" indicating her bow, "are best used repelling boarders."

The Rigging
"Perhaps someday you will," Javos says, looking out at the horizon. "After all, the captain started out at the bottom, swabbing decks and peeling potatoes."
Thaddeus' Quarters
Thaddeus nods. "It could; just about any wand, stave, rod or any other item with charges can be. To recharge this one specifically, you'd need an Enchant an Item spell, as well as Magic Missile itself. After the casting the former, you could then cast the latter into the wand, charging it up for later," he explains.
The Galley
"The biggest adventure I want is having to go into town to pick up supplies once a week," Noah admits. He deftly peels a potato and places it in the second bowl before grabbing another one from the first bowl. "Which is why I never understood why they chose me of all people for this job. I'm no mentor."
Bombard Deck
"Well spoken for a half-orc, I see," Riddlemark comments. "At lease you're capable of understanding the basics. Last half-orc I trained got itself and several crewmen killed because it couldn't follow orders."

Ouragana gives a short laugh. "Then I will have to wait a long time to do that. Enchanting an item is something I won't be able to do soon. But I think I could learn to fire magic missiles, at least. Could you teach me? In our free time?"

"I think serving on such a vessel will suit me for now." She grins, "Anything you need help with, before we make way?"

Re: CH. 7: Voyage of the Bullring
"Okay, so why did you choose to become a cleric if you weren't willing to deal with all the stuff that goes along with it?" Jocelyn asked curiously.
Re: CH. 7: Voyage of the Bullring
Thaddeus' Quarters
"Yes, I'm afraid enchanting items is a bit beyond my ability, as well," Thaddeus admits. "But...I suppose I could teach you Magic Missile." He walks over to a bookshelf, kneels down and looks through the books before selecting one and pulling it out. "I believe it's contained within this one." He sets it at his desk and flips through it. "Yes, here it is. You can look over it while I continue work on the orb."
The Rigging
"We are already under way," Javos points out. "As for serving on this vessel, perhaps if you impress the captain, she'll allow you to stay on. Usually she only accepts the best of the best, though, so you'll have your work cut out for you."
The Galley
Noah chuckles as he starts work on another potato. "Come now, Jocelyn. You don't really think all clerics are adventurers, do you? Most of them are not. Most clerics just stay home, watching over their temple and helping the community. If only adventurers could be clerics, well, who would be left to maintain the temples and oversee the church? Plus, adventurers have such short lifespans, so the church would be hurting for membership pretty badly by now if that were the case."

"Thank you very much" Ouragana says and sits down with the book in a well-lit place to study the spell. After some time, she sighs and hands the tome back to Thaddeus. "I don't know why, but this is totally incomprehensible to me. It feels as if my mind is locked." She rubs her forehead. "I'm not used to this at all."

Re: CH. 7: Voyage of the Bullring
"I meant under full sail." She winks, "And I might, perhaps I need to feel the sea once more.. My 'friends' are.. interesting." Checking the deck she adds. "So what of your Captain?"

Re: CH. 7: Voyage of the Bullring
"That isn't exactly what I meant," Jocelyn said. "You said you weren't a mentor, but doesn't that come with being a cleric at some point? You aren't doing a bad job, after all. I mean, I am learning aren't I?"
Re: CH. 7: Voyage of the Bullring
Thaddeus' Quarters
"The incantation is simple enough, but it seems you are not in the right mind-set," Thaddeus theorizes. "Perhaps there is another spell that might be easier for you?"
The Rigging
"What did you wish to know about her?" Javos asks casually. "I've only sailed with her for a couple of years now, but I've heard all of the stories."
The Galley
"Not all clerics are mentors, either," Noah points out. "Although I have trained others before, never on the field." He shrugs. "I suppose, but I think you're doing most of the work here. I'm not much of a mentor; you've taken all of the initiative, I've just been along for the ride."
