CH. 16 - Resistance

Kendra winces lightly as she watches the Baaz tackle Sadron, but she smirks upon hearing Magus' voice. ~I knew he was behind this,~ she thinks to herself. "Wait!" she says as she steps out from behind the door. Much like Sadron, she is covered in wounds and is pretty weak herself. "That elf has been helping me."

Despite the number of weapons Haahqae seems to have aquired; he's none to keen on trying to engage an armed guard in melee combat, so he backs off and pulls out his bow to pick off the guard.

(Move 2 squares south/west, long way around if that's better for avoiding aoo's or w/e. Then shoot at baaz 1 with his bow.)

Gobax slings another stone at the one attacking haaque.

Miriam turns and stabs the nearby baaz in the heart, instantly killing him. But his body immediately turns to stone, trapping her blade inside it. As she struggles to free her weapon, the other baaz takes a swing at Haahqae. The gnome ducks, then rolls to the west and shoots an arrow from his bow.

Snarling angrily, the baaz prepares to move in, but is blindsided by another stone from Pen. He drops to the ground, before solidifying into stone himself.

Meanwhile, the pool of acid is starting to eat through the floor itself, dripping down to the first floor below, and leaving a large hole in the balcony before the double doors.

"Well, he likely knows we're coming now," William notes. "We better move fast."

Miriam moves 5 feet east and then swings her magic (+1 hit/dmg) long sword at Baaz Guard 02 with great strength (+1 hit/dmg) and skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) [TH 11] (1d20+3): 18+3 = 21, hit for (1d8+4): 2+4 = 6 slashing damage. Baaz 02 becomes petrified. Miriam makes a DEX-3 check (1d20): 1, fail. Her sword becomes trapped.
Tulbas bides his time.
Baaz Guard 01 swings his long sword at Haahqae [TH 14] (1d20): 8, miss.
Gobax slings a stone at Baaz Guard 01 with excellent aim (+2 hit) [TH 14] (1d20+2): 2+2 = 4, miss.
William bides his time.
Haahqae moves 10 feet southwest and fires a sheaf arrow from his short bow at Baaz Guard 01 with excellent aim (+2 hit) [TH 14] (1d20+2): 15+2 = 17, hit for (1d8): 5 piercing damage. Baaz Guard 01 is now near death.
Pen fires a sling bullet from his sithak at Baaz Guard 01 [TH 12] (1d20): 13, hit for (1d4+1): 4+1 = 5 damage. Baaz Guard 01 petrifies.
Baaz Guard 02 is petrified.

Stepping through the door, Kendra sees Magnus, as well as about a dozen baaz draconians in the hall. "Ah, there you are, Miss Sinclair. I was just looking for you, and that useless apprentice of mine. Where is he?"

"Off being useless?" Kendra asks. "I'm afraid I'm not sure where he was taken."

[Haahque]

Of course William is probably right. Regardless; Haahqae would feel better with having a chance at catching the prefect by surprise; so he moves north into the alcove to hide as he casts invisibility on himself.

Now that the visible enemies are down, Grubnick says a quiet prayer for Sirrion's blessing.

Haahqae, Tulbas and Gobax (Prefect's Mansion)
Haahqae slips back into the alcove and casts a spell, turning himself invisible once again. At the same time, Gobax calls upon the blessing of Sirrion, and everyone feels a sudden burst of courage as a result.

"Alright, be careful not to fall into the hole," William says. "Shall we send in our scout first? Or just rush in all at once?"

The party now has a +1 to fear saves and +1 to hit for 5 rounds.

Kendra (Hidden Room, Sewers)
"Hmm, pity," Magnus replies. "Perhaps they are using him as some sort of hostage? Although I would have thought you would be far more useful to them in that regard, my dear. The prefect is worried sick, I'm sure."

"I thought the same thing, but they didn't quite seem interested in keeping me as a hostage. They didn't really know what to do with me, so they left me behind with this elf. Is the prefect at the mansion?" she asks. "I should return so I can receive my punishment for failing."

The blessing won't last long. I can pray for Sirrion to reveal any traps to me. Grubnick says.

Gobax casts another spell, this time calling on Sirrion to enhance his sight. After he is finished, he looks at the doors and can now see there is a magical trap on them. It looks like it is rigged to deliver an electric shock to anyone who opens it without first disarming it.

Kendra (Hidden Room, Sewers)
Magnus shrugs. "He is probably at the mansion. I mean, he never leaves it, right?" He looks down at the elf and sneers. "Still, despite your failure, I'm sure capturing this elf rebel will help make up for that. I'm sure the temple will delight in...interrogating him."

"I would rather interrogate him personally," Kendra admits. "But for the time being, we should return."

[Haahque]

Haahqae will look for any traps on the door and attempt to remove it (unless someone else can remove it better then he can).

With Gobax pointing out exactly where to look, Haahqae is easily able to find the shock trap and disable it safely.

Magnus chuckles. "I can understand your desire to torture him a bit for fun, but trust me, the church is far more efficient. They have ways of tearing anything he knows from his mind, until nothing remains. He'll be left an empty, drooling husk when they're done, but not before giving up his rebel friends." He leans down to Sadron, who is being held in place by the baaz, and grins darkly. "I hear it's an incredibly painful experience, worse than even being lit on fire or dipped in acid. And it lasts for hours and hours..."
