Chapter 1: The Road to Dagger Falls

Aiming for the creatures head, Elianna is distracted by the sudden blinding light that fills the keep, her first arrow flying off in a random direction. Taking a few moments she moves to cover Maria before setting up her next shot.

Miss and Critical hit, 5 damage + 1d8=8

Round 2 Results

(Elianna had to make another saving throw, so I rolled one here for the sake of expediency, Elianna's Saving Throw. I rolled initiative too, Elianna's Initiative. Luckily she passed her saving throw and got a pretty low initiative. Her second arrow hits it wasn't a critical because it was an 18+2. It still, however, is enough to see the critter dead by the end of the round ^^)

(Also Horizons you could have had a second attack with Raina, I think?)

Maria succumbs to the bat's screech, throwing a blanket over her head and curling up in a quivering ball. Meanwhile Eringard stays ready to use her Morningstar. Gimak and Raina both miss their shots, as does Jain Longleague with his daggers.



1) The Huge Bat dives once more at Elianna, but the barrage of missiles from the party cause it to lose all momentum and struggle just to stay alive.
2) Elianna fires two arrows at the maneuvering bat, one strikes it cleanly through the torso momentarily ending its painful scream.
3) Traern looses two arrows from somewhere in the darkness above, the second of which strikes the bat and sends it crashing to the ground amidst the rubble.

End Combat

The bat is dead and its cry has stopped. Maria cautiously uncurls from her blanket, and Seraphina reappears from the darkness uncocking her crossbow. Jain staggers and drops onto his haunches, dabbing at a bloodied ear with his handkerchief. "Cursed creature! My ears will never be the same."

Gimak blinks a bit, and realizes the creature is dead. "Mobat," he says. "We're lucky it was just the one. Just imagine what a swarm of 'em sounds like." He looks closely at the corpse. "Hold on a second...am I miscounting, or is there an unaccounted for arrow sticking out of its belly?"

Eringard walks over to Jain, taking his handkerchief out of the man's hand and inspecting the wound. She opens her mouth to say something, but is interrupted by the dwarf's question. She makes a quick count and agrees: "You're right." Her eyes go up, scanning the walls of the caved-in keep.

[Jenara]

Taking a moment to inspect her shoulder Elianna curses inwardly. "The hole in the wall... stupid " moving to retrieve her arrows she nods in agreement. "We better find who this other person is, for good or bad. Rania, with me?" She asks, moving to find a way up.

[Stik]

"Stay. I shall come down to you," calls a gruff voice from above. Moments later, the speaker enters the room. He's clad in mottled clothes in shades of grey and black and has his face similarly painted. He wears his hair short for an elf, and his voice sounds scratchy, as if he doesn't use it much. "I saw this bat last night, a few miles from here, flying this way. The tower looked like a good place to set up and wait for him. I am called Traern."

"Well met, Traern," Gimak states. "Seems we mostly took care of the critter for you, though." He retrieves the stray bolt he fired and puts it away. "You often hunt such large game in these parts?" he asks.

[Jenara]

"Elianna." she says simply. "Thank you for your aid." Letting Gimak do the talking she moves to Maria. "You did well." she smiles.

(OOC: Yeah, she could have had a second attack. I forgot. :p )

IC: Raina rubs at her ears as she tries to get the ringing to go away. "Huh?" she says kind of stupidly as she listens to everyone. She eyes the newcomer for a moment. "Thanks for the help," she says. "Why would you hunt a bat so big?"

Jain Longleague places his hand briefly on Eringard's to show his thanks, then busies himself with Maria's well-being. Seraphina eyes the newcomer suspiciously, slipping half into the shadows.

"Ho, hunter," calls Jain, "We thank you for the aid." He eyes the rest of the group, disapprovingly. "Would that we had better sense." Maria stomps on his foot, arguing "You didn't check anything, lazy!" The Longleague bounces up and down on his undamaged limb, shooting a death-glare at the girl.

[Stik]

"I rarely hunt aboveground at all," Traern says, his voice grim. "But it was on my way, and these things are a hazard to travelers, as you found out."

So saying, he retrieves his arrows. If he can get the arrow from the bat back in one piece, he will bring it to the campfire, carefully clean off any blood with a scrap of rag, then burn the rag and pass the arrow through the flames as well before returning it to his quiver.

"Well, thanks for the help then," Gimak says. "If you want to camp with us tonight, you're free to do so."

[Breila]

"Yes, thank you indeed, and welcome" Eringard smiles at Traern. "Where do you hunt, then, if I may ask?"

[Jenara]

"We should have searched the keep more throughly, a mistake I do not plan to make again. Our guard was down, a stupid mistake. Traern your presence will be welcome." Sitting back down she cleans her arrows, looking at the creature. "What should we do with the body?"

[Stik]

Traern gives the dwarf a confused look for a moment, then replies to Eringard. "Underground, mostly. And mostly two-legged things."

To Eliana, he says: "Can't eat it - eating bat can get you sick. Dump it outside?"
