CH 1: You All Meet in a Tavern

"Frankly no, but I am at a loose end, you need the manpower and have more important things to do. So are we not all winners?" Arei commercial, might as well be honest. "We could do this ourselves, but with your backing people might open up more."

The Paragon Inn

The innkeeper stands there silently, waiting for the half-orc to answer his question.

Likewise, Noah and Jocelyn sit there in silence, both wondering if they had accidentally offended Ouragana, as she, too, ceased talking for no apparent reason.

The Warden's Keep

The chief tents her hands in thought at the elf's comment. She waits for the gnome to speak, as well, but he seems to be content to remain quiet for now.

"Very well," she says. Opening a second drawer in her desk, she removes two bronze badges. The badges are round with a perfect cross engraved on them. She tosses them down to the two, one for each. "These are honorary badges and won't give you any real authority--they simply represent you are working for us. You must make it clear to the farmers that you are there by our authority and are not vigilantes working on your own."

Continuing, she says, "I want you to help the farmers with their problem, but also find out what happened to the two rookies we already sent out there. If possible, retrieve them. If they are dead, bring back their bodies--or at least their badges. Understood? Now, I'll need your names for our records."

(OOC: Jenara, I assume you meant to say 'Arei comments' as opposed to 'Arei commercial'?)

[Breila]

The mentioning of "same boat" had made Ouragana start for a brief moment, she then bit her lip and stayed silent for a moment. "Well, we're not on or in a boat here" she says finally. "I wish I was, because I belong there. But there are so many experienced sorcerers in town right now that no one wants a rookie like me." She makes an effort to sound offhand, but fails.

[Jenara]

(Ooc: Yeah Keypad is messing up, have a replacement on the way)

"Areilon Landar." Arei answers taking a Bronze star, who would have thought it, her a Deputy? Her a former Pirate... "We will not let you down." She says with an open smile.

[Nuke]

Val answers the man "One" holding up one finger, just to be sure.

Concealing a sense of panick, and deciding in an instant that it would be better to continue the facade, Dhan introduces himself as "Shades, Grey Shades... My family thought it would be... cute."

"I, uh...didn't mean, like a literal boat. It's just a saying," Jocelyn says. "Anyway, once we get some experience, I'm sure lots of people will hire us."

The bartender nods and takes only one of the silver pieces, leaving five copper behind for change. He then brings the half-orc another mug of ale.

The Warden's Keep

The chief pulls out a quill and some parchment and pens down the names given. "All right. If there's nothing else then, you're dismissed. Report back when you've succeeded in your mission."

(OOC: Heh, I just said the badges were round with a cross through them; they aren't stars at all, Jenara.)

"I know" Ouragana answers Jocelyn with a sad smile. "Still, it hit a nerve. So, what are you hoping to gain experience in?"

[JadedDM]

"Ummm...well, I'm trying to become a better priestess, I guess," Jocelyn responds.

"She is a very talented healer," Noah elaborates. "But...there's more to Octhanus than just healing. The church feels she needs field experience to become stronger." He shrugs. "Frankly, I don't feel she's ready to leave the nest so quickly, but apparently my word means nothing to the higher ups."

Jocelyn frowns and glares daggers at her mentor, but says nothing.

[Jenara]

(Blonde moment? Lol)

Arei nods, glancing at Grey for a moment. (Lol) "Shall we?" she asks the Gnome, walking away slowly.

[Breila]

"Well, there seems to be a possibility to gain experience here" Ouragana jerks her head towards the farmer. "Only I doubt it will be something that suits my talents, what about you?" she asks Jocelyn.

[xelphyn]

Dahn nods at the elf "Indeed." he says, and follows behind her.

Jocelyn shrugs. "I prefer working on a boat myself, but I can adapt, I guess. The gnome was the one who found that job with the farmer, though, and the one who rounded us all up. I guess if the rest of us had tried harder, we could have found a different job, one on a boat."

The Warden's Keep

Dahn and Areilon walk out, badges in hand. Hopefully the irony of a pair of criminals joining a lawful organization was not lost on them.

[Jenara]

(OOC: She is not a criminal, just... doesn't always work with the rules!)

"Did we REALLY want to do that?" Arei asks, grinning, "These just might get some attention, people are more willing to talk if they know you are with an organization." Giving Grey a smile she walks back to the Inn, hiding the badge in her cloak.

"Of course we did," Dahn says as he pins the badge the inside left of his coat," otherwise, we wouldn't have done it in the first place. The question is: 'Will we regret that later?' And if you plan for contingencies ,as I do, then the answer is no."
(ooc: also, Dahn isn't exactly a 'criminal' either he just has bad luck with authorities, and finds himself in difficult to explain situations.)
