FC1 - CH 1: Welcome to Sturnheim

Tavi looks over Val critically for a few moments as if trying to decide if she should believe him or not. Poot did say to tell him, so she did do as she was told in that case. Though, why did Val need to know anyway? "...All right," she finally says, but she still seems really stubborn about all of it. "But I'm trusting you here," she adds.

With that said, Tavi turns to head back to the inn to get some rest. Now that things have calmed down a little, the pain of her wounds really starts to get to her. "Oh, that was a bad idea," she mutters to herself.

It wasn't until Tavi stepped inside the tavern that she remembered she still had Poot's coin purse. As soon as she entered, Mama Chipmunk cried out in surprise. "What happened?" she asks, rushing over. "Goodness, dearie, you're bleeding! Miranda! Miranda, come quick!"

An older woman approaches with shoulder length brown hair and wrinkled brown skin. She smelled strongly of herbs and plants. Looking Tavi over, she says dryly, "Looks like she was in a fight."

Mama frowns. "Of course she was in a fight. Do something!"

"My services aren't free, you know," Miranda countered.

"Miranda! The poor thing is bleeding all over the place!"

Miranda sighs and puts her hands on her hips. "All right, all right. She can just owe me later then. Come on, sit down, child," she says, pulling a chair out by an empty table. "Mama, bring me some hot water and clean cloth for bandages." Nodding, Mama Chipmunk disappears into the kitchen in a flash.

"Tavi!" Hallie and Sparrow emerge from their room to discover the source of all of the commotion. They hurry over, as well. "What happened to you? Should we go get the guard?"

Tavi sat down in the chair that was pulled out for her. Her mind was racing with thoughts at the moment, so she wasn't exactly paying that much attention to the people fussing over her. "Poor, Poot," she said softly as she looked down at the coin purse in her hand. "He was being attacked, and I tried to help. It was too late though," she explained sadly. He was one of the first people she met that knew her grandparents, and now he was dead. "I all ready told the guard," she added, looking to Hallie and Sparrow.

"Poot is dead?" Mama asks with shock as she returns with the water and bandages. "No, why would anyone want to harm Poot?"

"Oh, Tavi," Hallie chides. "We can't turn our back on you without you getting into a knife fight or something," she huffs, hands on her hips.

Miranda cleans Tavi's wounds and bandages them up the best she can, adding a sprinkle of herbs here and there to help speed up the healing process. This helps a little, but likely it will take Tavi several days to recover fully from the fight.

"Hey! It isn't like I went out looking for a fight," Tav says to her sister. "I was just trying to return his coin purse, and I just happened to run across him getting beat on. I wanted to him. He was a nice old man," she explains with a huff. "And I don't know why anyone would want to hurt him. I plan on going back to the guard tomorrow to see if they learned again."

"Well, that should do for now," Miranda says, getting up. "You just come on by tomorrow, and we can talk about what you owe me. You should get some rest tonight, though."

"Thanks," Tavi says to Miranda as she stands up. "It has been a long day for all of us," Tavi says to her sisters. "Let's get some sleep."

The three sisters retire to their room.

"Oh, in all of the chaos, we forgot to tell you. Annissa got the stablehand job," Hallie announces.

"Yep! I start tomorrow. I get paid two whole silver a week!" Sparrow says. "Since you got hurt, you can have a bed, I'll take the floor," she offers.

"That's great, Sparrow," Tavi says excitedly. "It isn't much, but it might help keep us afloat for awhile at least," she admits. "At least, until another one of us can find a job," she adds as she crawls into the bed.

After a very long sleep, Tavi wakes up actually pretty early for her--although that's only because she went to bed so early.

Nevertheless, both Sparrow and Hallie are gone when she wakes up, having woke up before her still.

Sore and bruised, Tavi could probably just stay in bed the whole day. But she has things to do, and now is as good a time as any.

It is now September 1, 7:00 AM.

Tavi lets out a small groan of pain as she is still sore and stiff from the night before. Though, she forces herself to get out of bed, put her hair up, and get dressed. Once done, she quickly makes her way into the main room of the inn, searching out Mama Chipmunk.

Stepping into the common area, Tavi finds that breakfast is in full swing. There is no sign of Mama Chipmunk, though. Rather, Rosamund and Hallie seem to be serving everyone instead. Hallie is wearing an apron just like Rosamund, and is scurrying from table to table, bringing food and drink, and taking orders.

Tavi pauses for a moment as she watches her older sister wait tables. "Hallie?" Tavi says. "You didn't tell me you got a job."

"You were asleep," Hallie says. "Mama Chipmunk gave it to me this morning. She's off preparing Poot's funeral, and she didn't want to leave Rosamund on her own," she explains.

[HorizonsDream]

"Do you know where she went to prepare for the funeral?" Tavi asks curiously. "I would kind of like to talk to her. Plus, I need to know where Miranda is as I'm suppose to pay her a visit."
