"The pleasure is mine, Serath. I don't think you're intruding. Rather it's me that is the intruder here," Jerry replies. "You can call me 'Jerry', if you wish. It's shorter," she added, redundantly. "If I may be so bold, and at any rate a distraction while we wait for the performance, I understand that there is a reluctance for certain arts in this place. Would you have any idea of the reason for or origins of that reluctance?"

If Jerry is anywhere near a door or window, at a convenient moment she'll have a peek up at the stars to confirm that she is (or isn't) still in Faerun.

[Ooc: the windows are all shuttered and latched now that it is dark and their table is near an interior wall, but she can go look out the front door any time she wants.]

Serath and Merrick share a look, and an entire conversation could have passed in that glance. Finally Serath spoke, I have been in Kartakass for a few decades now. It has always been so, to my knowledge. Most people here want nothing surprising, nothing unexpected. Fear is the main motivator, and fear of the unknown... of the misunderstood... can have a very ugly side...

"I see," replies Jerry, not really seeing at all. "I hope you don't think me awfully rude, but I'd just like to take a look at the sky. Maybe see what the weather's going to bring." She smiles disarmingly. ""I'll be right back. Unless you want to come too."

The men nod but decline to join her, instead speaking quietly to each other. She makes her way to the door to see night has fallen. There is almost nobody about outside aside from a pair of guards on patrol, though they have a casual air about them; perhaps on their final round. The sky is overcast, and the clouds threaten rain... a change from the pleasant day. Patches of mist have begun to form down side streets, and a cold has settled into the town.

"Do you patrol though the night? Either by you or your colleagues?" Jerry asks the guards.

{OOC: I know they probably won't understand her.}

The guards pause at Jerry’s inquiry and draw closer, she can see they each wear chainmail and the black tabard and golden lute. They don’t seem to understand her, but the older of the two speaks to her in that musical language. Bonsoir. Avez-vous besoin d'une escorte quelque part? Unfortunately, it is now her turn not to understand.

Jerry says, "Stars?", points up at the sky and then disappears off inside to seek refuge with the cousins.

The guards look confused, but don't follow when she returns inside. Serath and Merrick are still at the table, now watching the inkeeper. The man has taken the stage and seems to be making some kind of announcement, which she cannot decipher. The guests seem a little disappointed, but not overly so. When Jerry returns, Merrick rises politely. Serath brings an extra chair over for himself and both wait for Jerry to sit before joining her at the table. Guilliam has said there will be a slight delay before the music begins, but I get the feeling he has no idea where Mira is... Merrick confides quietly.

"Is it likely she's in trouble of some sort? Do you think there's anything I..we could or should do to try and help?" enquires Jerry. "If she's hurt, I have some modest abilities in that direction."

Merrick looks to his cousin, but Serath gives no indication of what he is thinking; at least so far as Jerry can tell. Nothing that I can think of... the younger half-elf muses. She was planning to come straight here after leaving the "Toad's Toe"... Rautant doesn't always close until after dark, so perhaps she lost track of time during her research... The only danger I'm aware of would be that of being out after dark, but she is with at least 5 others that included several fighters and magic users. That should be a large enough group not to be accosted... At any rate we three would fare no better in the night...

"I see," says Jerry. "So, Merrick, Serath, if I end up wondering what to do in the days and weeks to come, would either of you have any..jobs that you might need doing, ones that I could possibly help with?"

Nothing comes to mind. Aside from general magic and casting, what sort of skills do you have experience with? Serath asks.

"Well, I have good knowledge of religion and history, but I'm beginning to doubt they are relevant here. I'm no longer in Faerun, am I? Otherwise, I have skill in natural healing. I'm fluent in 6 languages and sign language. I can dispose of unnatural things. The unsleeping dead.." replies Jerry. "Is that what you mean?"

Basically. He replies. The natural healing certainly sounds like a marketable skill, and translation might come up. I will let you know if I hear of anything available. What languages are you capable in?
