Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread
Well, that's as may be, chief, but it's after dark, and the gates are already closed," the soldier says (an inaccurate statement. You an see them are standing open, just ten yards away). "I am going to have to get them reopened, which means calling off-duty men back to their posts to do it. Overtime pay and all that. Where is that supposed to come from?"
Fraso looks on, not speaking, and likely missing the fact that the man is looking for his palm to be greased.

Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread
Papa frowns and his voice takes on a biting tone, "It is not after dark. I can still see your face and you mine, and neither of us has night vision like the elves and dwarves do."
"And when did the legions ever pay for overtime? Did you ever hear of a centurion who offered to pay his men to march extra in order to get to a battle on time?" Papa sounds really sarcastic.
"So just let us through, man."

"This isn't the legions, chief. And troublemakers get to sleep outside the gates. You're not a troublemaker, are you?"
"No matter where you go, there you are."
Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread
"My good man." Angel dismounts her horse and stands close to Papa.
"We are not troublemakers, just hungry and tired travellers, looking to share the delights of your town." She smiles, "My friend just wants some food. So please, let us through.."
[ooc] She knows exactly what he wants.. She's spent too much of her own money as it is. She is going to try to charm him...[/ooc]

Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread
Bastian ambles forward on Gertrude and begins in a gentle, public speaking voice,
"Worthy guardian,
holder of sacred trust,
we find you before us,
holding the wilds at bay."
He takes a quick swig from his flask of "Special Brew" hidden in his robes and mutters a quick blessing to himself [casting Enthrall]
"Perhaps it would be best for us to take some time to sing the praises of your diligence and forthright nature! You are truly a noble protector of this town, whose trust in you is quite well placed....."
Bastian reaches his right arm behind him and waves on his companions through the open gate as he continues his sickly sweet praises.

Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread
As Bastian begins his impromptu sermon, everyone in the area pauses to appreciate his words (this includes the guardsmen at the gate and your own group as well).
Bastian makes a fairly impassioned statement about the value of the town guard and broadly praises their efforts and dilligence, during which time everyone in earshot listens carefully. When the speech has concluded, the lot of you spend a moment discussing the merits of his statements, including the officer, who, being several paces away from his men, begins speaking with Bastian.
And although the officer was content to smile and nod during Bastian's speech, when the time comes for the group to begin moving toward the gate, the officer again resumes his position in the middle of the roadway. "I appreciate your views, preacher. My men are indeed a true and steadfast ward against our enemies. All the more reason that they should be fairly treated. As I have previously said, the gates are closed for the night. Were I to call these good men away from their families, it would be appropriate for them to be duly compensated."

Angel nods, leans over to Fraso.
"Sir, i believe this good man and his comrades would like suitable compensation for opening the gate.." she places great empathsis on the opening part.

Fraso sighs, resignedly. "Such is the price of traveling these days, I suppose. Give him this, and tell him that any more than this verges on banditry." He hands Angel two pieces of silver.

Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread
Angel nods in appreciation, "Thank you"
She returns to the Gate, coins in hand. "Perhaps this will be... suitable compensation for opening the gate this fine evening."

"Hrumph" Bastian mutters to himself, "That didn't work out as well as I expected. No matter!" He immediately perks up and leans down from his Mule. "Sir, where might one be able to find a nice stiff drink in this well protected town?"

Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread
"A good drink? Go to the Bell in Hand, halfway up the first turn. Tell them Dorio sent you."
The party rumbles through the open gate and into of the village of Allesia. The village is laid out as a series of terraces around a hill, with one broad avenue spiraling around in a counter-clockwise direction and numerous smaller streets running perpendicular to it. Due to the changes in elevation between each circle of the road, these lesser streets are too steep for vehicles and are used only for foot traffic. The foot of the hill is surrounded by a ditch and an earthen berm, but there is no wall.
Apart from a small barracks, the first half-turn of the avenue is devoted exclusively to businesses that cater to travelers. There is a small market place, a stable, and several inns and taverns. Being just past sunset, the taverns are fairly quiet. The dinner crowd is just leaving, and the night-time customers have not yet arrived.

Angel looks for the sign for the bell and hand, it should be obvious which one.. (What size building is it? Would it have rooms)
[ooc]I presume it has no stable, hence the reason for a separate one..[/ooc]
When she knows where it is she'll turn to the others.
"I suggest we get rooms, stable the animals, I would like browse the Market." She says this all matter of factly, leading her horse to the stable.

Papa nods agreement to what Angel said.
His eyes keenly examine the local women. He says casually, "I would like to browse the local market as well."
He turns to Fraso and asks courteously, "Will the Lord Fraso require all of us in attendance? I would not leave our employer unguarded, but I do not know how it would serve to have all of us guarding at once in a town like this."

"Rooms first, I suggest we share... You sir will of course require you own room I trust?" She motions to Fraso.
"Sallia, as the only other female, I would be happy to share with you, if that is acceptable?" Not waiting for an answer she continues.
"I will assist stabling the animals, Praesul gets nervous in strange places.. " (She's assuming at least Hiric and Bastion will follow)
"As for guards, I would suggest we spilt into two, myself and Brusen in one group. Papa, Elias and Bastion in the other?"
[ooc]She's purposely put someone she trusts in each group, plus Brusen doesn't say much so she doesn't need to make conversation!
Plus Papa can keep an eye on the two newcomers...[/ooc]
"Sallia, are we in need of any supplies?"
