Nocturno leads the way into the damp, earthen passage. The elf has to stoop a little to make his way into the dirt burrow as little clumps of moist ground crumble down here and there. Only a few dozen yards from the entrance, the space deepens and opens up enough for him to stand erect... if only barely. Jorsek manages to ignite a torch, which casts only a feeble, flickering light in a small space nearby...

The dark interior is littered with fungi of many different kinds and sizes. In the center is a single specimen much larger than the others, and almost as tall as the Elven fighter-cleric. The area expands off into the darkness beyond the range of his infravision.

Thinking he forgot to ask how to harvest the fungi, he will wait for the gnome to catch up.

He'll whisper:
"Should slice it at the base and drag it out?"

The whisper probably sounding louder in a muted space, he will pause and listen for any of those aforementioned beetles.

[Calan would have indicated that only the cap of the mushroom would be necessary. In this case the whole cap is roughly the size of a medium shield in diameter and about 8" thick in the center]

After his memory is jogged, Nocturno moves forward. Watching for his feet, longsword drawn.

Weapon bare, the heavily armored elf approaches cautiously, his head nearly brushing the crumbly earth of the 'roof'... The ground is scattered with all manner of fungi in different shapes and sizes, but there is a clear path to the largest mushroom; which is clearly the target. Nothing stirs in the dark as he approaches to about 20 feet away...

Jodek will defer to Noc's judgement, however he will default to 10 ft behind the elf.

The two continue their approach... as Nocturno moves within about 10 feet of the large fungi, it suddenly begins to quiver and emit an ear-piercing shrieeEEEEEEEEEEEEEK

The elf's sword bites cleanly into the large fungi, but it becoomes clear it will takle several blows to hack through.

Earth to one side of the chamber begins crumbling from a space around the wall...

Nocturno glances nervously at the wall and swings. Jist as he is about to make contact, the largest beetle he has ever seen bursts from the wall! The longsword connects awkwardly with the flat of the blade, causing no damage The gnome-sized insect chitters menacingly and begins to approach...
