The Heart of Darkness... [Main Game Thread]

The (Original!) Tomb of Horrors!!!
S1 by the great Gygax 1978. Everything adapted to 2e. This is NOT the Return to ToH written for 2e

Labyrinth of Madness!!! Previously Concluded (by TPK)
S6 by Monte Cook from 1995. Designed for 2e. IMHO this one is the tougher of the two, but not by much.

Zafron will move in with Tabbi to exam the stone wall that is blue on the map.
Zafron detecting sliding wall: [1d6] = 4
Zafron detecting stone work, traps, pits and deadfall: [1d6] = 1

Tabbi: detect traps: [1d100] = 38

Zafron joins his brother, the agile rogue Tabbi by his side, and the pair lend their respective skills to the investigation.

Tabbi searches the area thoroughly, but shakes her head. I don't see anything really, but you've always been better at this kind of stonework stuff than I am. she says to Zafron. The dwarf gives the area a thorough inspection. He leans down, almost lying flat on the floor and notices the perfect levelness of the stone there. Uprighting, he lays his face along the wall beside the area of interst, and from the close angle can clearly see the 10 ft section is square and flat to an exactness not demonstrated by the rest of the corridor. Even the ceiling bears small indications that it sees wear in an east-west direction... All of the evidence leads him to one inexorable conclusion... This 10x10 ft section of wall has the capacity to slide from East to West across the hallway to the opposite wall; making a perfect fit with some prodigious degree of force...

An important distinction to make: The rogue skill find traps is for smaller traps, it "...is not effective for finding deadfall ceilings, crushing walls, or other large, mechanical traps." per the PHB

That said, the dwarven stonework is for exactly that (at least where stone is involved) as we see in the example above :) Nice rolls Counterkid, by the way. ;)

Bryce halts his forward progress at finding the seam in the stone and reports back to the group informing them of his discovery. Watching his brother head in Bryce shrugs and holds back commenting "No sense in being where a trap is set off it it is indeed a trap."

Bryce (standing outside with the rest of the party) pokes his head back in the entrance and hollers out "You dead yet Zaf?"

"So, no traps but a sliding window... Let's scan the walls for the lever and also continue forward to the main doors. It might be that once we are there the sliding wall opens to let lose some monsters on us..."

(OOC: Can I use the probable path to assume where we should go in?)

"Looking at this closer, this seem like a sliding wall. This wall probably will cuts us off when we pass it and step on a pressure plate. I don't like this."

"Tabbi and Bryce we need you to scan every square inch of floor for traps.Seems both entrances to the place are trapped."

"If this wall closes on us will we be trapped? Maybe there is another sliding wall or ceiling."

Tabbi will scan for trap on the floor in front of her. Zafron will stay put. He will not pass that sliding wall.

DM let me know how many roll you need to traps as Tabbi moved forward.

1 check to cover a 10 sq ft area of ground. or you can describe how you would like Tabby to search; I.e prodding the ground with a stick of a certain length Etc

How far forward would tabby like to go and ia she covering both sides of the 20 ft wide hall?

here is the check for the next 10 feet in front of her. She will go in a straight line. "Bryce please check the other 10 feet." This would cover with of the corridor.
[1d100] = 59
She will do the side of the sliding wall. Bryce can do the other side.
This is the 10 feet past the sliding wall.

Tabby moves up, checking the next section of floor south of the shifting wall. after several minutes she satisfies herself that it has no traps she is capable of detecting.

Seeing his brother not move past the section of the wall, Bryce moves back in to continue his investigation of the entryway. He will check out the hall the same way he was prior to finding the seam in the wall. While he knows his brother may be annoyed that he is not listening and checking over ground already covered by Tabbi, he is a professional and he has a job to do.
