"I'm not sure I follow. If she was a full demon would we give her the benefit of the doubt or immediately kill her as a monster? I asks it because when we have been in the Mansion we attacked the kython meaning to kill him without hesitation."

Jocelyn, Ouragana, Baeros, Gallath and Drav (The Hold)
"Naishe isn't a bad person," Gallath explains. "She helped me fight off the undead when the ship was attacked, and she helped me fight the slaad that attacked us in the city. She used to be part of this crew, too, right?" he asks, looking to Sierra.

The captain shrugs. "Well, yeah, she had problems following orders. But I guess I never caught her doing anything sinister."

"See, there you go," the elf concludes.

Val and Naras (Quarter Deck)
Naras leaves her armor, backpack and scroll in her cabin, then returns to the deck.

(OOC:
Chris1234 wrote:What Does Naras know (or heard) of Mermen? Are these Mermen?
Didn't you say she met and befriended one as a child? So yes, she has heard of them. They are called Undine.
Chris1234 wrote:Are they known for luring land-folk to their doom?
Naras only ever met one of them before, so if she thought Silverfrond was trustworthy, it seems likely she would assume they all are.
Chris1234 wrote:And would Gonto's sense of community extend to them?
They aren't part of her clan, her species, her town, her nation, or even her world. The only way you could say they are part of Naras' community would be to stretch the meaning of the word to include all sapient beings in the world, i.e., a 'global community.')

"So, how in the world do we convince these two not to kill each other?" Jocelyn asks.

Naras nods, "Didn't think of that, Val. Thanks. Let's find out." And she goes and asks the Merman exactly that, including if not then why.

"Maybe we first find out the reason why they want to do that? And if we can't dissuade them, we might find a way to convince them that this ship is not the best place for their fight. Perhaps they can put it off until next landfall. Why is Penta on this ship anyway?"
There's more to me than meets the eye...

Jocelyn, Ouragana, Baeros, Gallath and Drav (The Hold)
"I thought it was pretty obvious," Sierra responds. "She's a demon hunter," she says, pointing to Penta, "and believes that she is a demon," she then points to Naishe. "Thus, she wants to kill her. Anyway, she's on the ship because Gallath brought her aboard last night. She was unconscious and he said he didn't want to just leave her out in the ruined city, to be eaten by slaadi or whatever. So we threw her in the brig for the time being."

Val and Naras (Quarter Deck)
The undine explain, logically, why Naras' request doesn't make any sense. First, they say the wounded cannot be moved without risking making their injuries worse. Secondly, it's about 50 feet from the railing of the ship to the surface of the sea, so even if they did drag the wounded up to the surface, Naras couldn't reach them anyway.

"Just a moment," Naras replies and turns her back on the Undine, switching to common the dwarf says, "He says they can't be mov'ed without risk,Val,"and then casts Detect Evil, obscured from the Undine.
Turning back to the Undine Naras continues in Merman-speak, "So how were they injured and how many are injured?" all the time looking for any sign of evil or deception.

If she detects nothing untoward and the Undine's reply makes sense, then she again tuens back to Val, "So, want to come if i split Water Breathing with you?"

"There was a safe place to leave her in the city," Jocelyn says with a sigh. "Gallath, you were the one that brought them both on this ship, so what exactly were you hoping to accomplish here?"

Val and Naras (Quarter Deck)
"You sure seem suspicious toward us, asking so many questions," the undine points out. "I remind you that we did not ask for your help, you offered it on your own. We only agreed to it. If anything, it is we who should be wary of your motives, land-walker. If you are now taking back your offer of aid, then we will move on."

Sure enough, Naras does not detect any evil intent from the undine. She does sense, through non-magical means, that she has offended them, however.
