CH. 10: Queen of Harts

OOC: Oops, thought I had posted.

Val leaves the bathing area, hopefully a bit more presentable to others. Returning to the common room she looks to catch up with Jocelyn for a walk about town. As she sees the others, Val approaches slowly, trying to take in the situation.

Val steps down into the reception area to find Jocelyn and Baeros speaking with a half-elf male, an elven woman, a red-haired human woman, and a female gnome.

"Actually, we've been here three days already," the half-elf says to Jocelyn. "We were just doing some shopping and got caught in the rain, so decided to return to the inn. Perhaps it was Octhanus' will that we meet now, so your friend could be healed."

"Maybe so," Jocelyn says. "Listen, um, we are heading out to the temple. I need to report to, well I guess you would call her my boss, since I left in kind of a hurry and I didn't send word that I would be leaving. I would like to speak to you more if you are still here."

Baeros waves at Val, "Val! Come here! Were you stung when we were attacked by those mosquitoes? Andar got completely sick and Saren here cured him. You might be sick as well..."

"You don't mean the archbishop, do you?" asks Saren of Jocelyn. "Because she's out of town on a religious conference for the weekend."

[HorizonsDream]

"...Oh," Jocelyn says, her shoulders slumping a little bit. "Then I guess I'm not going after all."

"Maybe that's better all things considered..." Baeros locks eyes with Jocelyn as just minutes ago they spoke about the possibility of more assassins coming for her. "And you should stay close to Andar to see that he recovers. Besides with this rain outside I think I'll postpone the shops visit myself." Turning to Saren, Baeros adds, "Thank you for saving our friend. May I leave a small offering to Octhanus with you?" he asks handing Saren 10 gp he fishes awkwardly from his backpack, thinking to himself 'first thing to buy are belt pouches.'

Saren accepts the coins and bows his head politely. "My thanks; I'll see to it that this money helps feed the hungry," he says.

He then turns to Jocelyn. "I'm having dinner tonight with some of my bridge crew here, at nightfall. If you wish to join us, you're welcome to. The more, the merrier; bring your own crew along, if you wish."

Baeros donates 10 GP to Friar Saren.

"Oh, I'm sure that they wouldn't pass up the chance to eat," Jocelyn admits with a light smile. "If not, then I'll be here for sure."

After Saren and his company move away, Baeros looks out the window at the rain pouring down on the streets, absentmindedly swings the straps of his backpack playfully in front of Takit and Hopper to catch them, and grunts, "These elves with all their magic, you could guess they would put a roof above these streets at least..." after several minutes he goes back to the receptionist desk and asks, "What other services do you provide besides food, rooms and laundry?" debating with himself should he have more drinks or just get some more sleep.

OOC: Is there any entertainment crew currently playing in the main hall?

Saren and the others depart, and Baeros approaches the front desk.

"What other services do you provide besides food, rooms and laundry?"

"Let's see," the receptionist begins, "at the top of every hour, we have a band play in the restaurant for entertainment purposes. There are regularly scheduled private card games, if you're feeling lucky. We also have a deal with the local brothel, if you want some companionship brought to your room; very discreet. Beyond that, well, anything you can think of to ask for, we'll try to provide."

Jocelyn decides to go up to her room to get some rest until the meeting with Oura and the rest of the group.

"Card games? How does that work? Is there a minimum bet?" Baeros asks anxiously.

"We have several tables, each with a dealer employed by the hotel," the receptionist explains. "Anyone who wishes can join a game, as long as there is still room at the table. Minimum bet is one gold piece. If you are interested, I can bring you to one of the on-going games."

Val responds, a bit dis-hearted. "I was looking forward to a walk about town. It's not like the rain is gonna kill us." Breathing a heavy sigh, she resigns herself to sitting down again. "I guess I will have another ." as she signals to the barkeep.
