Re: ** Part I: Fire and Ash **
character creation was plug die rolls into a premade template. I rolled poorly for the stats and am enjoying the challenge of playing a cowardly character. By my math it is a 25% chance to avoid taking damage from the returning weapon , yikes! The character's range on a thrown weapon is also reduced due to -1 STR modifier right? Being as easy to hit as a wall and 22 max health with no way to heal damage will keep him far away from combat. DM-i would like to swap a Web spell for a second invisibility if that is ok since I need to go more defensive.

Karlane glances down at her cloak-covered body to see if she's camouflaged, otherwise inferring that she's subject to an anti-magic zone.

{OOC: TY TY}
If the priestess thinks its possible to Deathstrike the beholder then she will study it a little longer before doing so.
Otherwise Karlane tries to zoom forwards {Movement 60"} and surprise the creature to strike at it with her mace.

Re: ** Part I: Fire and Ash **
Such an attack is impossible against a target with a spherical non humanoid form.

Re: ** Part I: Fire and Ash **
KARLENE rushed forward, her glowering white mace ready to bludgeon the monster before her yet it hovered upward out of harms reach negating what would have been a potentially devastating blow, the mace head splintered the tree it was near instead with a fiery scorch of white flame. Riled, one of the beholder's eyestalks emitted a beam of crimson light that enveloped and disintegrates a very large rock right next to Karlene's leg. 'Noragg mothromka tordalliz' it bellowed in a monstrous, throaty voice.
'That was a warning shot' Valtor explained.
NYM said to Karlene emphatically 'it is naught but an illusion!!! Look there!' he growled and beared his white teeth angrily, then began chanting swiftly 'malokom nyrig tomaldar noquar sayboth' he intoned with practiced syllables in the arcane tongue, leveling a outstretched hand and fingers to outline a hooded being up in the trees about 150 ft aways, and 25 ft high in crimson red fairie fire. The shadowy figure visibly and audibly emitted an angry shriek of outrage 'you damned idiot!' then began chanting himself, laughing at the same time in evil anticipation of what he was going to cast at the party.
The image of the beholder faded from existence.

The priestess takes refuge from the sight of the man hovering 25' above the ground by ducking behind a thick tree that is more then 30' from the party so as to ensure that a fireball won't catch her and them.
She then silently rises in the air, still sheltered by the tree, to emerge so that she can see the foe. Karlane tries to study the the enemy spellcaster whilst moving, hopefully unseen again, behind the figure, to try and smash it in the b
ack of the neck {Deathstrike}.

not a 25 tall giant, he's 25' ft off the ground up in the tree's.
Re: ** Part I: Fire and Ash **
AS KARLENE advanced toward the tree, where she clearly saw the scintillating fairie fire illuminating the enemy magic-user's position, she snagged a neck level tripwire and is hoisted straight up by the ankle, as three crossbow bolts simultaneously fired upon her (-5 hp damage) quickly she reached for a dagger and sliced the thin yet very strong chord ensnared around her ankle and fell 10 safely in a crouched position.
The mage had long wild looking black hair, and a face painted pale white with dark shadow colored eyes and ruby red lips, pursed in a look of demented madness, laughing hysterically for no reason 'step into my web...said the spider to the fly' he sang in a taunting whisper.
Karlene saw two slithering forms emerge from behind the tree that the mage was in above, both elves their eyes pure white, drool dripped out of their mouths and she noticed there was some sort of viney plant jutting out of their pointed ears.
The black haired magic-user said 'meet some of MY friends, aren't they beautiful?'
Valtor unleashed three emerald green blazing magic missiles that shrieked angrily through the air at the enemy caster, and they came flying straight back into Valtor injuring him instead. The wizard grinned and spat 'ah, more elves to turn into children of my precious yellow musk creeper, isn't this a fun time!'
Sarancen fires his crossbow at the mage, the bolt narrowly missed its target by a mere inch to the left. The soldier cursed and plucked another bolt and began reloading using his legs to stretch his weapon.
The black cloak turned to Whisper 'well, do something boy!'

DM- Question - when did the rest of the party get here? I thought all of this action was for Karlane and her 1 guest while the rest were resting back at the house? I am pretty sure she is on her own with 1 npc. Did spells get memorized?
Re: ** Part I: Fire and Ash **
Yes, all of your desired spells are memorized.SARRMATT wrote: DM- Question - when did the rest of the party get here? I thought all of this action was for Karlane and her 1 guest while the rest were resting back at the house? I am pretty sure she is on her own with 1 npc. Did spells get memorized?
Karlene established a portal from the safehouse to the forest ne of Harby and, hence the planned ambush everyone has teleported to the ambush zone.
Re: ** Part I: Fire and Ash **
"Fire or acid works," offers Karlane as she sets about freeing herself from the trap whose type usually relies on gravity. Having put away the mace, she takes advantage of the Windwalk to ease the tension in whatever her binding is so as to release her.
Where possible, during the minute or so that it should take her to get free, Karlane keeps an eye on Whisper's performance, thinking, ~Almost as if Lor himself offers the test to evaluate the mage - will the fellow pull his weight?~

Re: ** Part I: Fire and Ash **
Whisper reached for a spider in his spell components, the advancing elves and their master should be slowed until their group's fighters could cut them down.
