"If your 'man' wishes to join us, that is his choice." Angel accents man with undisguised distain. "That is your choice, perhaps he might do him some good. I trust he can fight and will follow orders? We have no time or manpower to babysit."

(Can we assume she obtained her axe?)

[OOC] An axe is brought up to the gate before the group departs. [/OOC]

Haro continues to eye Liri, like a dog looking at a steak, but says nothing as she departs.

The gate is opened, then quickly closed behind the group, leaving them on the road immediately outside. Egg moves ahead of the rest, his horse at a trot until he's out of bowshot of the walls. "East, then?" he says, as the rest catch up to him.

To the east are large cultivated fields with narrow farm roads of well-packed earth between them. The fields are fairly regular, but not entirely uniform.

[Jenara]

Shoving the axe through Praesuls saddle Angel rides from the walls following Egg.

"Liri, take point, you are the most stealthy of us, Egg take the front, Ari with me, Glanis take the rear with ... him." Angel orders, waiting to see if anyone objects, almost waiting for Vani to object.

Ari, knowing he isn't stealthy or much of an outdoorsman, moves his steed near the apparent leader as requested. He makes sure Ye folks seem ta work well together. Been tagether long? He keeps a wary eye on the rabid 'helper' sent with them.

[Jenara]

"Some of us more than others." She replies tersely, "We have seen some dark times, some friends lost." She sighs too many lost, some left in place where they would do some good.

"We have a job to do, we can only do that if we work together." She comments once more after a period of silence, "I wish to stay alive, if you do as well.." Her eyes fall on the horrible little boy. "I suggest you listen."

"Is it good to be free of that place?" Her words are once again directed at Ari, "Evil lurched there.."

[Breila]

Liri is startled when Angel tells her to take point, then she realises Maughus is no longer with them and she is indeed the one who is most suited to scouting. After a short pause, she nods and leaves free rein to Casta who takes advantage of it to gallop a few dozen lengths, stretching her muscles. Then Liri softly reins her in to a steady pace and starts looking around. In which direction are the woods, and is there any smoke to indicate where a collier is at work?

The lands nearby are mostly covered with planted fields, and gradually slope up to the east, giving a fairly good view of the land ahead. Several miles distant the land becomes more hilly and uneven, and where the hills begin, so do some thin woods. These give way to denser forest farther away.
A few small villas dot the landscape.

[OOC] The collier that started you on this journey is long dead, so you won't find his workplace by looking for smoke, unless he was in the process of firing charcoal when he was killed. [/OOC]

[Jenara]

Riding up to Liri she nudges her lightly. "Thank you. We needed to move, if I would have stayed, this axe would be wedged in his head." Glancing at the 'Observer' she curses in Elven. "I know I don't need to say, or to worry, but watch him." She whispers.

"We should check the forest, things would have started in a clearing, the trees wouldnt grow where the Charcoal was produced." She suggests.

[Stik]

[OOC] Heading directly for the forested hills, then?[/OOC]

Liri nods and rides at the front. She does not separate from the group while they can be seen for miles, but only when there is some cover so the separation can go unnoticed by anyone watching them. How do the forests look to her? Probably not healthy old-grow, but severely tainted by human use. Is there any indication where logging took place some time ago, like one or two years?

Just for clarification: she does not ride in jollily, but takes caution not to be surprised by anyone.

The forest takes a while to reach, and it is necessary to travel through miles of cultivated fields - mostly spelt, wheat and maize, with some fields left fallow.
The forest, once Liri reaches it, is thin at first. Most of the trees are very large oaks and poplars, but they are far apart. Where the taller trees are far apart, stands of smaller trees have filled in. While there are no obvious signs of recent logging, the distance between the larger trees suggests that the are was logged decades ago.

The forest is quiet, but not unusually so, and somewhere, far off, a dog barks.

Casta lifts her head, and sniffs, then makes a nickering sound, the continues to pace slowly forward.

[Jenara]

"Would you like to make yourself useful? Us finding him is in your interests too, your Master will be pleased and you obviously want to do that. Do you know where the most recently logging is?" She turns to the boy, trying to hold back the distaste in her words.

[Stik]

"Why ask me? I am a stranger to this province as well," the boy says, somehow managing to sound superior while admitting ignorance. "Perhaps you should hire a local guide."

[Jenara]

"Fine, I gave you a chance to be useful." Turning her back she scans the area.
