"Well, I was aiming for the wall and missed," replies Shima. "You'll soon have enough to make your own rat-skin loincloth!"

Haahqae sits, trying to control or sooth or… he isn’t even sure. But if feels good to just roll up in a little ball on the chair that’s much too tall for him, rest his forehead on his knees and listen as the conversation unfolds.

Those are some pretty famous people from a long time ago. I’ll tell you more about them later.

Haahqae wasn’t really talking to Miracle when he had said that to her, but he was glad to have someone to say it to none the less.

They should talk to eachother. Why weren’t Gobax and Arulia over here to talk in the first place? Why hadn’t Myriam and Jaymes come with him when he went to talk with the others in the first first place. Why was everyone acting so unfriendly when they’re all on the same side here and need to work together? Why is it Jaymes coming on this mission, and not Ismene?

That thought causes Haahqae to shed a tear, although in his current ball-on-a-chair form, it’s probably not noticeable. Especially if the others are having the conversation that they’re sure to be having right now, right?

Arulia follows Gobax's lead and joins Haahqae at the table with the two strangers. "We can give you more details if you want...at least, the few we have."

Haahqae, Arulia and Gobax (Masked Dragon Inn, Common Room)
Miriam frowns at the goblin, unable to hide her distaste. "Vaguely," she answers curtly.

"We were told you want to hire us for an unspecified purpose at an unspecified time with unspecified duties," Jaymes clarifies. "Perhaps you can fill in the details?"

Kendra Greylock (Prefect's Mansion)
"These rebels clearly have no regard for anyone's life," Tethys says. "All the more reason why they must be shut down before they harm anyone else. Hopefully the temple's interrogation bears some fruit, but even if it doesn't...the rebels have lost a true cleric, which is a serious blow, I'm sure. At least we need not worry about him any longer."

Ne-Chanz and Shima (Central Haven Sewers)
Shima wards off another bite and tries to counterattack, but misses wildly. Ne-Chanz, however, is able to finish off the rat with a single blow. Only two rats remain, but they are different from the others. They have a strange coloring and more than four legs. The first one moves forward and bites at Shima, who throws up his shield again.

=================

Initiative
Ne-Chanz (1d10+3): 9+3 = 12
Shima (1d10+5): 6+5 = 11
Giant Rat 05 (1d10+3): 3+3 = 6

Round 4!

Giant Rat 05 bites at Shima who is using a masterwork shield (-2 hit) [TN 15] (1d20-2): 14-2 = 12, miss.
Shima swings his long sword at Giant Rat 04 [TN 11] (1d20): 3, miss.
Ne-Chanz swings his long sword with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) and strength (+1 dmg) at Giant Rat 02 [TN 10] (1d20+1): 18+1 = 19, hit for (1d8+3): 3+3 = 6 damage. Giant Rat 05 dies.
Giant Rat (?) 06 advances and bites at Shima who is using a masterwork shield (-2 hit) [TN 11] (1d20-2): 6-2 = 4, miss.

"Who were the people that caught the cleric?" Kendra asks. "And who did this cleric follow for that matter?" she asks curiously.

Haahqae, without looking up replies:

"Come on, I gave you more information then that."

But more then that he doesn't say, he'd rather stay out of this conversation for now.

Arulia notes Miriam's distaste for Haahqae with appreciation, and nods in agreement with Jaymes. "I'm not the one who wants to hire you," she says. "That's Haahqae's idea, but I welcome your help if you've reached an agreement with him. It doesn't sound like he's told you much, so I'm sorry if I repeat what he's said."

"A few weeks ago, Haahqae hired Gobax and I," she begins and gestures to the goblin, "along with some others to rescue someone from captivity to some cultists of Belzor. Two of those others were two women, Yvette and Xyleena. During our rescue, we came across a cache of money. A short time later, when we got into a fight against the cultists, the women stole the money and fled while the rest of us fought. After we left the cultists' hideout, we looked for the thieves, but by that time they were gone. We've looked for them since, but I only found word of them yesterday. They don't know that I'm the one looking for them, but they said that they'd meet with me because I know something they want. They made the meeting for tonight--I wish they would have made it later, but I don't know when the next time I'd have a chance to find them would be."

"They want to meet at a warehouse down by the docks. I'm not a fool, and I know that they will know the building much better than any of us do. They'll probably have others there, too. I know that the three of us aren't likely to make them give us back the money that they stole by ourselves. I hope that we can find the others that they stole from to help, too, but Haahqae seems to think that you might help too." Arulia shakes her head. "I'm sorry, but we don't have much of a plan yet. It's all been so sudden. But I'll answer what other questions you have if I can."

Haahqae, Arulia and Gobax (Masked Dragon Inn, Common Room)
"My two questions are what do you actually want us to do?" Miriam starts, directing her words to Arulia only, not at Gobax. "Both you and the gnome seem to imply some kind of fight is going to break out, but we cannot carry weapons in the city--unless one of you has a permit, that is. Second, you say this meeting is tonight. I take it you mean before curfew begins? Because again, without a permit we cannot be out that late." Then she adds, "I also wanted to warn you that I am being watched by the army, even as we speak. The gnome feels it doesn't matter, but I thought you should know. If you associate with me, they may take an interest in you two, as well."

(OOC: Miriam's distaste was directed at Gobax, not Haahqae. He is a goblin, after all.)

Kendra Greylock (Prefect's Mansion)
"Just some mercenaries that are working for the temple," Tethys replies. "Well, I suppose now they'll be made full agents of the church, as that was part of the reward the temple was offering if anyone turned in a heretic. I don't know which deity the heretic served, hopefully that will become evident during the interrogation. I suppose it doesn't really matter, in the end."

Ne-Chanz and Shima (Central Haven Sewers)
Shima and Ne-Chanz continue fighting with the strange rat. Both manage to hit it once, Shima being a glancing blow and Ne-Chanz's being much more substantial. But surprisingly, the rat keeps going. It seems to be considerably stronger than the other rats up to this point.

=================

Initiative
Ne-Chanz (1d10+3): 10+3 = 13
Shima (1d10+5): 8+5 = 13
Giant Rat 06 (1d10+3): 9+3 = 12

Round 5!

Giant Rat (?) 06 bites at Shima who is using a masterwork shield (-2 hit) [TN 11] (1d20-2): 8-2 = 6, miss.
Shima swings his long sword at Giant Rat 06 [TN 11] (1d20): 11, hit for (1d8): 3 damage.
Ne-Chanz swings his long sword with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) and strength (+1 dmg) at Giant Rat 06 [TN 10] (1d20+1): 17+1 = 18, hit for (1d8+3): 6+3 = 9 damage. Giant Rat 06 is seriously wounded.
Ne-Chanz swings his long sword with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) and strength (+1 dmg) at Giant Rat 06 [TN 10] (1d20+1): 2+1 = 3, miss.

"I...I don't know," Arulia says. "I mean, I don't know what's going to happen. I don't think that the thieves will just give us our money back, and if it comes to a fight to get it, I want as many people on our side as I can get. I hope that the ban on weapons means they aren't armed, either. Maybe we can at least find things to use as clubs...the army can't ban table legs and tree branches, can they? And yes, the meeting is before curfew." She shrugs. "I know that doing this is a risk...a risk that we'll be caught out after curfew, a risk that we'll be hurt in a fight with the thieves. Maybe a risk of attracting the army's attention. But I think it's a risk that I have to take."

Haahqae, Arulia and Gobax (Masked Dragon Inn, Common Room)
"Forgive me if I am blunt," Miriam says, "but it sounds like you don't have any kind of plan at all and are just hoping things will turn out for the best. It's one thing to take a calculated risk, but it's another to act blindly without a plan. Unless that changes, I don't think I can be of any help to you.

"It also sounds like you cannot guarantee us any kind of payment, either," Jaymes adds. "Even if you do somehow beat up the thieves without any weapons, then what? Unless they happen to be carrying all of that coin on them at the time, how do you intend to make them give up its location? Torture? What happens if we throw in with you and you fail? Do we get any compensation at all?"

Kendra Greylock (Prefect's Mansion)
Tethys shrugs. "Only one that matters, really. The lesser deities are just jealous of her power and might. They turned their back on this world by throwing a fiery mountain on Istar, causing the Cataclysm and taking away true healing. Now they're jealous that Takhisis has returned to us. Notice they had no interest in the world until after she returned? Anyway, it's been a wild day and you probably need some rest. Why don't you take the rest of the day off, hmm?"
