Ouragana Stormbride (Merchant Ship, Lower deck/Sardonx 16th, 8:30 AM)
"How goes the battle outside?" the young woman asks. "Are we winning? Do you have any magic that could allow us to escape?"

(OOC: I'd allow Mending to fix a partially destroyed Web, yes.)

Baeros Axewielder (Merchant Ship, Upper deck/Sardonx 16th, 8:30 AM)
While the captain fumbles with reloading her weapon, Baeros knocks out one of the marines while Gallath takes out the other one. With nobody left to protect her, the captain swears, throws the gun to the ground and draws a cutlass instead.

===========

Initiative
Baeros (1d10+5): 1+5 = 6
Gallath (1d10+7): 9+7 = 16
Marine 07 (1d10+5): 9+5 = 14
Marine 08 (1d10+5): 6+5 = 11
Captain (1d10+10): 4+10 = 14

Round 10!

Baeros swings his primary long sword at Marine 07 with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) and strength (+1 hit/dmg) using the flat of his blade (-4 hit) and holding back (-3 dmg) [TN 7] (1d20-2): 8-2 = 6, miss. He then swings his secondary long sword at Marine 08 with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) and strength (+1 hit/dmg) using the flat of his blade (-4 hit) and holding back (-3 dmg) [TN 7] (1d20-2): 16-2 = 11, hit for (1d8): 7 damage. Marine 08 falls.
Marine 08 is down.
Marine 07 swings her cutlass at Baeros in his studded leather armor (-2 hit) [TN 13] (1d20-2): 8-2 = 6, miss.
Captain begins reloading her rifle.
Gallath fires an acid (+1 dmg) sheaf arrow from his short bow with elven grace (+1 hit) at Marine 07 who is in leather armor (+1 hit) [TN 10] (1d20+2): 16+2 = 18, hit for (1d8+1): 1+1 = 2 damage.
Gallath fires an acid (+1 dmg) sheaf arrow from his short bow with elven grace (+1 hit) at Marine 07 who is in leather armor (+1 hit) [TN 10] (1d20+2): 15+2 = 17, hit for (1d8+1): 4+1 = 5 damage. Marine 07 dies. Gallath has 3 arrows left.

(OOC: It takes 3 rounds to reload a gun.

Actions for Round 11?)

Val and Naras (Unnamed Island/Sardonx 24th, 5:00 PM)
Naras bandages Val up, and the half-orc recovers consciousness as a result. She then tries using healing magic on her, but Val's body is too broken for them to do any good. She'll need a full night's rest before healing magic will have any effect on her.

Naras makes a healing check on Val [TN 15] (1d20): 8, pass. She restores (1d3): 3 HP. Val is restored to consciousness.
Naras casts Cure Light Wounds on Val: No effect.
Naras casts Cure Moderate Wounds on Val: No effect.

Edited 21 Nov 06.40:

"Well thank you, Val. I meant for you to escape. Not risk your neck to save mine. Anyway, welcome back. In a minute we'll get you somewhere to rest," comments Naras in her best (dwarven) bedside manner.

She casts some spells, CLW on herself and then an Augury ("How will it turn out if we now try to use that campsite to rest?"
Assuming the Augury doesn't warn her using the campsite, Naras follows that with a "Detect Snares & Pits" and scans the ground ahead as she & Val head towards the campsite and then beyond to hopefully pick up some firewood.
If they get into camp without incident, the dwarf will then cast Create Food & Water ready for them to have their meal and then hopefully rest undisturbed until the morning.
To be sure, Naras tries to stay awake to keep guard and provide care so that Val can rest and recover. When Val is awake again, the dwarf tries to rest so that she can regain her spells in the morning.

Baeros quickly attacks the Captain trying to knock her down.

(OOC: Is it possible to attack with both hands and miss on purpose if the first hits? If not Baeros will attack with only one hand.)

"I'm afraid the battle looks bad for this ship's crew" Ouragana says in a sorry voice. "They were outnumbered, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to come here. As for magic that could help us to escape... Well, I can keep a person from moving, put a few people to sleep, so we might get to a lifeboat. And I could navigate it - without magic."

Gallath lets Baeros handle it, and looks around for another target. If there are any usable arrows nearby, he'll grab some. He will also look for any archers from the Poison's Curse. He'll move over toward them.

Ouragana Stormbride (Merchant Ship, Lower deck/Sardonx 16th, 8:30 AM)
"A lifeboat isn't practical. It's miles to the nearest island, we cannot store enough food and water on a lifeboat for even one of us to make it to land. And that's assuming the pirates don't immediately blow us out of the water," the woman says. "So that's it. All of our lives are forfeit. We know what the Poison Curse does to prisoners. I think I'd rather take matters into my own hands." She opens a drawer on the desk and withdraws a small pistol.

The sounds of stomping feet and yelling can be heard getting closer. It sounds like the pirates have broken through and are now doing a search of each room. The marines all ready their swords to fight to the death, if need be.

Baeros Axewielder (Merchant Ship, Upper deck/Sardonx 16th, 8:30 AM)
Baeros takes another couple of swings at the captain, but she easily dodges the first. He hits her with the second, but it barely leaves a bruise. She seems much tougher than the simple marines, and when she counters with a dangerous stab herself, Baeros finds himself on the verge of collapse. He cannot be sure he'll survive this at this rate!

Gallath, meanwhile, scans the area for usable arrows but finds none around. He returns to the Poison Curse and spots a contingent of archers up on the aftcastle, firing toward the merchant ship's crew when they can find an opening without risking hitting one of their own.

===========

Initiative
Baeros (1d10+5): 9+5 = 14
Gallath (1d10): 10
Captain (1d10+10): 10+10 = 20

Round 11!

Baeros swings his primary long sword at the Captain with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) and strength (+1 hit/dmg) using the flat of his blade (-4 hit) and holding back (-3 dmg) [TN 7] (1d20-2): 3-2 = -5, miss. He then swings his secondary long sword at the Captain with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) and strength (+1 hit/dmg) using the flat of his blade (-4 hit) and holding back (-3 dmg) [TN 7] (1d20-2): 14-2 = 12, hit for (1d8): 4 damage.
Captain swings her cutlass at Baeros in studded leather armor (-1 hit) with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) [TN 11] (1d20): 17, hit for (1d6+2): 3+2 = 5 damage.
Gallath searches for arrows then moves back to the Poison Curse.

(OOC: Actions for Round 12?)

Val and Naras (Unnamed Island/Sardonx 24th, 5:00 PM)
Naras heals herself, then an augury on whether the campsite is still safe. The spell only responds 'Weal.' The camp had already been set before the fight, including firewood, so she helps Val walk there. She then conjures some food and water for the two to eat while they rest.

==========

Naras casts Cure Light Wounds on herself, restoring (1d8): 5 HP.

Ouragana looks at the young woman with sadness in her eyes. She softly says: "Don't. While there is life, there is hope". But she knows the woman is probably right and she doesn't feel she has the right to interfere with such a decision.

Surprised by the strength on the woman Baeros curses, the pain he feels only enriching his vocabulary. "Damn you, I tried to save you and your people from butchery." he says quietly. Knowing he met his match, and in his poor shape he doesn't hold back anymore and fights to kill.

(OOC: Baeros will no longer hold back and attack with the flat of the blade. Now he will attack normally.)

Ouragana Stormbride (Merchant Ship, Lower deck/Sardonx 16th, 8:30 AM)
The woman smiles sadly to Ouragana. "You understand what they'll do to me if they take me alive, don't you?" she asks. "A quick death would be preferable."

The pounding feet get closer, and the marines start trying to barricade the door with whatever furniture they can find. "We aren't going to survive this day. But we can try to take as many pirates to hell with us." Grim faced and determined, the four marines ready their blades, facing the barricaded door. The woman looks out the window in the back of the room, out at the sea beyond, the pistol still in her hand. Her hand shakes slightly.

Baeros Axewielder (Merchant Ship, Upper deck/Sardonx 16th, 8:30 AM)
"I'd rather die with a sword in my hand than on my knees, pirate!" the captain retorts. "I won't listen to your lies!" She swings her cutlass at the ranger again, but he's able to parry with his twin blades.

Baeros counters with his own swords, hitting her twice. She staggers back, wounded but still on her feet. However that changes when an acidic arrow pierces her chest. She falls backwards, her blade clattering to the ground.

By this point, the pirates have overwhelmed the defenders, slaughtering most of them. Scourge and Sable board the merchant ship. "Well done, lad," Scourge says to Baeros. "You fight like a savage! I like it. For killing the captain, I'll see you get a little extra share. But you're in bad shape. You should let the others handle the rest, and take a breath." To the rest of his men, he tells them to descend into the ship and kill any stragglers they find.

===========

Initiative
Baeros (1d10+5): 8+5 = 12
Gallath (1d10): 7+7 = 14
Captain (1d10+5): 2+5 = 7

Round 12!

Captain swings her cutlass at Baeros in studded leather armor (-1 hit) with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) [TN 11] (1d20): 2, miss.
Baeros swings his primary long sword at the Captain with great strength (+1 hit/dmg) [TN 7] (1d20+1): 16+1 = 17, hit for (1d8+1): 5+1 = 6 damage. He then swings his secondary long sword at the Captain with great strength (+1 hit/dmg) [TN 7] (1d20+1): 11+1 = 12, hit for (1d8+1): 3+1 = 4 damage.
Gallath fires an acid (+1 dmg) sheaf arrow from his short bow with elven grace (+1 hit) at the captain who is in leather armor (+1 hit) [TN 10] (1d20+2): 15+2 = 17, hit for (1d8+1): 8+1 = 9 damage. Captain dies.

(OOC: End combat.)

Val and Naras (Unnamed Island/Sardonx 24th, 5:00 PM)
Naras waits patiently for Val to wake up, which gives her plenty of time to think about how she got here and where she will go next when this is over.

Naras cast some spells on Val when she wakes up. (CLW & Resist Fire).
She then hands some of any remaining created food and water to Val and adds, "This is the best I can do for now and have to sleep. After that, I'll need to pray for spells. You can think on whether you want to explore the island or head back to my temple or wherever else."

If morning comes round uneventfully, Naras will check with Val and then pray for: CLW x2, CMWx2, Create F&W.

"Wait until we are really overpowered" Ouragana pleads. She then offers: "I could make a sticky web that helps hold the door and needs to be hacked through. And I can repair it."
