Re: Jerry Greystar (Chris1234)- Private Thread
Jerry tries a sling bullet at the easiest to hit of the pair that are not yet fighting people, adding, "Maybe I'll surprise them!"
And then follows up with a shout in Common, "Two more coming from the north*!" *Or whatever direction is appropriate..

Re: Jerry Greystar (Chris1234)- Private Thread
They certainly seem to need help... he mutters. While Jerry is winding up Merrick steps back, but remains close enough to peer through the window. He quickly recites an evocation unfamiliar to Jerry, ending by pointing one finger past her out the window. Two bolts of pure energy streak towards one of the wolves engaged in melee with the party. They twine and spin about each other, flying unerringly to strike the wolf in the back a full hundred yards away! What is more surprising is that the beast drops like a sack of grain!
Jerry looses the sling bullet, but misjudges the distance slightly. She yells down the street to the group, but cannot tell if they can hear her.
[Ooc: let's keep it in this thread for now since the others can't really see or interact normally with Jerry and Merrick. If you( want to try to identify the spell you can make a spellcraft check at +2]
----
Merrick casts a spell at WE
[1d4+1] = 4+[1d4+1] = 4:
The spell does 8 dmg! WE Goes Down!
Jerry attacks the nearest wolf WE3 with her sling (Thac0 20) at medium range (-2)
Jerry R2 vs WE3 attack, dmg [1d20] = 5[1d6+1] = 4+1 = 5: miss

"Nice," says Jerry. WWhat spell was that? I so want that one! Can you do another one? Or shall we go down and help?"
OOC: If he's got another MM then Jerry slings away another bullet. If not, find another way to help, probably go downstairs to try getting the door open.
======
Spellcraft (TN17+2) [1d20] = 20
Crap! can't even recognize a MM

Re: Jerry Greystar (Chris1234)- Private Thread
[OOC: I literally lolled at the 'I want one!' Bit. What is magic, anyway
]
Merrick looks a touch embarrassed at his success. Oh. It's actually a very common spell... my cousin has it in the shop's library...
He does a double-take at her next suggestion. Go down there!? We'll have to be very careful, I'm no good in a physical altercation, and I don't have anything prepared to keep them at bay... I have another long-range spell, but nothing nearly as accurate... Besides, I don't think there is anything we can do to get Guilliam to unbar the door, and we'd certainly be noticed leaving...

As she winds up another sling bullet (only 4 left after this one) she comments, "I'm new to this world. It definitely is not Faerun, so I'll be guided by you. What'd he charge me for learning it? Or might he do 'exchanges'? Not that I'm rich or anything. But I quite good with magic in theory anyway, but just need more practical experience." She tries to hit an unengaged wolf at short range, if possible.

Re: Jerry Greystar (Chris1234)- Private Thread
Should we really be discussing the price of goods and services right now? He asks, surprised. He pulls out a small patch of what looks like leather, a small dart and some powder. Skewering the leather bit with the dart he sprinkles the whole thing with the powder as he marshals his magic. The dart glows green emitting an acrid smell, and the light slowly spreads over his extended arms as if forming a bent bow. The dart mimicks a drawn arrow, and he takes aim at the same wolf Jerry has chosen. The bolt flies in a long arc, but sails past the wolf and into a nearby building. Drat!
Jerry winds up another sling bullet and lets it fly at the nearest canine, which also happens to be the largest of the group. This time the lead ball flies true and strikes the wolf in the back, but it seems unfazed by the attack. He looks around the room and the window. I don’t have any other offensive magic ready, and there is no way we can both fire slings through the window at the same time… I do have a couple of simple protections, but it’s not much… I don’t suppose you have a rope handy to climb down? It might also make a good escape for anyone who manages to break away.
[A&I round 4?]
[OOC: short range for a sling bullet is 50 yards or less. The closest wolf right now is about 70 yards away so it’s definitely mid range. To be clear, she hit the wolf and did damage, it was just so little damage and she’s so far away it is difficult to tell.]
----------
Init:
Merrick: (10+2 spell) = 12
Jerry: (9+6 wep) = 15
Merrick casts a spell: Thac0 17 at WE2.
[1d20] = 9. Miss!
Jerry attacks the nearest wolf with WE2 her sling (Thac0 20) at mid range (-2 to hit):
Jerry R3 vs WE3 init, attack, dmg [1d10] = 9, [1d20] = 17, [1d6+1] = 2+1 = 3: (Hits AC 5):
Hit! for 3 dmg!

Re: Jerry Greystar (Chris1234)- Private Thread
"I might have hit it. Not sure. I was just chatting, Merrick. And Mystra, my Goddess, behooves me to spread and encourage magic as best I can. Rope is a great idea though. Not sure I'm doing much good with this sling," Jerry replies.
{OOC: Just spotted I didn't but one. I always buy one. Damn. Want to retrofit, say she has, and deduct the 1 gold for a 50', 20lb rope? Won't affect encumbrance. And a good way to meet the party!

[Lol. nope. But, you can have a 15' rope free, just this once
]
Re: Jerry Greystar (Chris1234)- Private Thread
{OOC: If it was 30' to the ground, that would be very HM.}
"yes, but only 15'. I forgot to buy more. Help me tie it off round my morning star as an anchor; unless you've got anything better?" the half elf replies.
While they start to do that she hollers out of the window at the top of her lungs in common, "Oi! You lot! Rope here! Climb up!"

Re: Jerry Greystar (Chris1234)- Private Thread
Ummm... we could tie it around the leg of the bed and slide that near the window...
Re: Jerry Greystar (Chris1234)- Private Thread
"Ok, that would work. I make it too complicated sometimes," she smiles, not mentioning that being tied to a bed had other memories for her.

Re: Jerry Greystar (Chris1234)- Private Thread
Merrick and Jerry drag the bed over by the window and she quickly ties a knot. She then shouts to the others, but cannot tell if they can hear her or not. Merrick casts a quick cantrip to amplify his voice and shouts to them as well. Over here! There is a rope to climb! He takes out his sling and loads a bullet, preparing to fire out the window.
---------------
Merrick cantrip check: [1d20] = 10, pass!
Merrick augments the shouting with a cantrip

Re: Jerry Greystar (Chris1234)- Private Thread
Jerry tries to help show the way with a Conjuration Cantrip, of 'Fiery Red Rocket': "What I mean, is 'Let's be seen!' "
And let's that go out of the window, taking care not to hit Merrick with it.

Re: Jerry Greystar (Chris1234)- Private Thread
Merrick winds up and slings a lead bullet at one of the wolves. The shot is promptly rewarded with a painful yelp. Jerry casts a quick cantrip to light the way for the party. The melee seems a shambles now, but miraculously another wolf goes down! One of them backs off, but the largest one moves in to take it’s place in Melee!
-------
Merrick fires a sling bullet towards WE2:
[1d20] = 19 Hit! for [1d6+1] = 7 damage!
WE2 is About to Die!
Edit: added 2-1/2 hours later
someone hits WE2, WE2 Goes Down!
Wolves near Wayfarer's Rest R5 Jerry cantrip [1d20] = 13: pass!
A fiery red flare streaks from a window in the wayfarer’s rest, lighting the way to safety!

Re: Jerry Greystar (Chris1234)- Private Thread
Jerry line up another Cantrip (Illusion?): 'Dark moment': "Hear me bark, 'It's all gone dark'!" and tries to cover the alpha wolf's head in darkness for a round to try and give the beleaguered party a chance to withdraw.
