Liri raises her brows at angel's lack of kindness, but says nochting. She whistles for Casta to come and mounts the mare when she arrives. she then nods to angel to signal she's ready to go.

[OOC] No more active zombies are visible in the courtyard (for lack of a better word) at this time. Northeast of there the buildings block any clear view, so there may be zombies there, or anything else. The sounds of combat have mostly died down, though. [/OOC]

It doesn't take long to get to the source of all the noise. The group's path takes them past a few blocks of businesses, then houses on the right side of the street, and a walled villa on the left side, fronting the lakeside.

Along the way, they pass several corpses in various states of decay, a few of which appear newly dead, and show signs of having been fed upon, although in each of these cases there are other bodies immediately adjacent, showing more extensive decay and fresh head wounds.

A few blocks along, the locals have formed a bucket brigade and are throwing water on a burning house, while legionnaires stand guard, facing outwards, toward the lake, gladii at the ready.

Angel rides towards the noise with Liri beside her, when they out of earshot of the Wagon she speaks.

"Egg is a Mercenary through choice, not circumstance like me... His motivation is the money and the client.. I had to put the reasons in a way he'd understand." She puts her hands in her hair and scans the area. "I want to help these people, I hope you realise that... Come let's do all we can."

Galanis joins the bucket brigade but asks for a route of his own and he takes bigger buckets, even tubs if there are any to be found. He uses all his strength, trying to put the fire down as quickly as possible, before it spreads.

Ari dismounts and runs to the head of the bucket line, Anyone still inside? he asks, taking a closer position to the fire, knowing his diety's gift will protect him from the flames more so than the other folk.

"They got out," says one of the townsfolk between buckets. "But one of them got killed on the street." He gives a little head wag towards a man kneeling on the ground, cradling a woman's limp form in his arms and rocking slowly.

From the look of it the fire is severe enough that the house won't be save, despite the best efforts of the would-be firefighters. At this point the bucket brigade is trying to prevent it spreading to the adjacent houses. It is fortunate that the structures have tile roofs. If the roofs were thatch, the whole block would already be in flames.

[OOC] @Bish - No strength check is needed. Everyone already knows he's buff. [/OOC]

[Ooc: is there a safe-ish way to take it down faster to keep it from spreading? Say, from inside if necessary?]

Ari continues hauling water and tossing it on the best places to keep it from spreading.

[OOC] @ Tristen: When you say: "take it down" are you talking about the building itself? Because that would actually help, although it would be very dangerous. [/OOC]

[Ooc: Yes, and if the fire looks likely to spread to the rest of the town he'll go for it... apparently aiming for the shortest-lived character in the history of this game.]

Angel dismounts quickly and, taking Casta's reins, approaches Angel and Praesul. "Let me take the horses away, they're afraid of fire."

If Angel confides Praesul to her, she'll lead the animals a little distance away, towards the legionnaries. When she is noticed, she talks to them "Greetings. Liriodendra ti corylus, Imperial Messenger Service. Are you expecting more of the vermin to leave the Sea?"

"Of course, thank you." She leans over the neck of the Stallion whispering softly. "Praesul will go, he will lead himself.. I think he sees Casta as part of his Herd, he's quite fond of her." Winking she hops off the horse and heads to the fire.

"The buildings gone.. We need to stop it spreading. Galanis, Ari.. Do you think we could pull this place down?" She asks as she grabs a bucket and tries to keep the fire under control. "This isn't my talent.. "

Ooc: Trying to move us along, great idea BTW.

"I'm no engineer, so lead away" she admits keeping her position in the line.

"Chain..." Angel turns to the fire crew then heads to the Legionaries. "Chain, we need some chain. Any ideas?" She asks with urgency.
