CH. 9: Winter is Coming

With all the new encouragement from his friends Tulbas only wishes to spend much less time with Magnus. Happy to see Magnus is not apparent he quickly runs to the attic to grab his things and runs back out.

Though she feels more confident now that she has her armor and weapon again, Arulia still can't quite calm her nerves as she and her companions stand outside the abandoned building. "How should we do this? Do you think that there's more of the snake things in there, or just Belzor?"

Kendra Greylock (Outside the Ivy Inn)
The kid looks up in Kendra in surprise, but when he sees her uniform, he pales. Easily tearing free of her gentle grasp, he makes a mad dash for an alley, not looking back.

Kendra chases after the kid. "I wasn't going to hurt you, kid."

"Oh, you don't need to worry about that. My permit allows those traveling with me to have weapons. Helps us prepare for taking on zealous cultists should we run into any."

"Awesome. Thanks Haahque," responds Shima. Whist in the posh inn, they take an extra minute or so to pick up Shima's weapons too. "Ready to help now. Felt naked without them," he added, indicating his weaponry.

Last time they had a lot of traps set up. If Belzor was alone, I doubt he remained here rather than finding somewhere else. If he did remain, I think he would be expecting us... The more-fully transformed snake-men had odd abilities. One had scales hard as plate mail, another was able to cast a magical darkness. We know Belzor is a powerful magic-user from Tulbas' time here. It is also possible he fled and left us a death-trap here...

"Belzor probably left, and if he could he probably found a different hiding spot. But if he looked like those lizard-things he might find that hard in the city. Which means this building is likely empty, but that doesn't mean we should be careless, even if Belzor is gone, there's sure to be lots of traps he hasn't disabled while he left. Let's search the place carefully and see if there's anything we missed the first time that could be useful. Anything that we'd rather us find then someone else."

Arulia frowns. "Then let's proceed cautiously. Are you well enough to look for these traps, Haahqae?"

"Sure, easy. It just takes two eyes to look for traps. Although it can take a twenty foot pole to find some of the invisible traps."

Haahqae will proceed into the hideout looking for traps, and making sure to avoid/point out all of the traps they found on their first trip into the hideout.

[Retroactively inventory managing] Gregeddin should probably equip himself fully like the others are doing. To save time could he peel off from the group and use the permit he carries to collect his things too?

"And Arulia, I believe we have another that might be able to help us in this department too." The bard adds referring to Shima, "Are you ready for the adventure?"

Haahqae descends down the stairs to check for traps. The room is exactly as he last saw it. The bear traps are still visible and closed from when they were triggered before. The bodies of the acolytes and histachii are exactly as they were left. The door to the pantry is still hanging open. He finds no additional traps hidden anywhere or any signs that anyone has tampered with anything here.

(OOC: Chris, the temporary pass that costs 5 steel is only for the single trip to transport your weapons. For instance, if you asked for the permit so you could move your stuff from the High Hand to the Steel Tankard, and then you were caught trying to cross a checkpoint that was nowhere near either of those areas with that permit, you'd be arrested.

Kendra Greylock (Outside the Ivy Inn)
Kendra gives chase after the boy. When she turns at the alley and enters it, she stops short before running into the man standing there, waiting for her. The boy is nowhere to be seen, although there are no visible exits anywhere in the alley for him to have gone. But the man, she recognizes. It is Necolai. He stands there in the middle of the alley, arms crossed.

"Well, well, well...what have we here?" he asks lightly. "You know, for awhile there, I thought you might be dead. Crystal told me you were badly injured and you just vanished. Not a word to anyone. I started to think, maybe she died from her injuries. But you seem quite well. I thought you wanted to be friends...but instead, you have joined the enemy." He shakes his head. "Is this why you have been avoiding me, Greylock?"

"Yes, I believe so, thanks," responds Shima. "And would you have any maps of where this goes that I could have a look at, please?"

Kendra comes to a stop in front of Necolai, and looks slightly surprised to see him out in the open (even if they are in an alley). "I failed at the job that you gave me. I didn't see the point in returning after failing in such an epic way ," she explains. "As for why I have joined with the enemy," she shrugs. "I have my reasons. Reasons I don't really care to discuss while out in the open like this," she admits. "There are eyes and ears everywhere now days."

Tulbas walks with the others. The memories of the torture he passed make him shiver.
